This is no big suprise and was to be expected. Colin Powell is a Republican in name only. There is a reason he is no longer in the Bush administration. He has always leaned left and everyone knows it..

It's funny: when right wing ideology comes tumbling down, die-hard believers cling on to the wreck regardless. But you won't drown if you change your mind, you know.

Powell was one of the few Bush cabinet members who had any kind of credibility to begin with. No surprise that they Bushies used him as a patsy at the UN, handing him BS "intel" and telling him to go out there and sell the world that a bunch of ice cream trucks were portable bio weapons factories.

Oh bullshit.  Powell knew full well what the intelligence reports said.  They were the same intelligent reports that the Clinton administration had when they placed Saddam's removal as a priority.  The "Bushies" didn't use Powell; Powell was looking to get his foot in the door from the beginning.

quote:

(If the latter were the case, wouldn't he have done so far earlier in the race? No, his reasons of wanting to observe the candidates under stress rings true to me.)

No he's endorsing him because he's the front-runner 3 weeks before the election.  He donated the maximum amount to McCain last year.  He was simply hedging his bets.  He want's back in the game.

Yes yes, perhaps that is because he believed all the BS Bush told him about the "weapons of mass destruction", you know the ones Bush has yet to admit he lied about.

Just more sour grapes from a party that has nothing going for it because the people of this country are tired of the lies, the cover-ups and the GOP taking care of the top 1% of this country

I guess this is directed at me...though its completely off base

I have no sour grapes, I actually slightly favor obama over mccain, though like neither of them. Bush, I think should be in jail for the rest of his life. However, Powell, is a bald faced LIAR. Go find the youtube videos of him presenting all kinds of made up "evidence". I mean he got the same data bush got, so either you think bush and powell are liars, or neither, Well, I guess you could be a hypocrite and say one is okay because now he's "seen the light".

I tire of this team mentality, I dislike both the candidate, just wait a day or two, I'm sure  Mccain will do something, and I'll say he's bad to. Or I'll side with Obama on something else, or whatever. I'm really not into this sheeple thing.

All this election has proved is that the voters are as bad as the candidates. That's 100% verified.

I haven't heard THIS on Fox News, only on Glenn Beck - and he's on CNN.

Which presidential candidate (who is just like us, by the way) dines on lobster hors d'oeuvres, whole steamed lobsters, and Iranian caviar?

I wonder if Colin Powell will be joining Michelle and Barack in the Waldorf Astoria for some caviar specially imported from Iran in order to celebrate their new allegiance...

Our intelligence units say that Iranians are killing American soldiers in Iraq, by the way. Just a tiny little footnote.

Glenn Beck has truly outdone himself, as have you.

You both should be very proud to bring this vital issue to everyone's attention.

I always liked Colin Powell.   He was too smart for GWB.    He would not play Bush's games.

Every single day you parrot the latest Fox News whine rofl. Last week it was Bill Ayers, but since that didn't stick you're trying to shift to 'socialism'. It's hilarious, especially today, as the society we now live in is socialistic for the largest banking institutions, and rabidly capitalistic for the rest of us  . Like European healthcare, man. You need to look into definitions and start from scratch, because Fox isn't doing your credibility any good.
Kittin, what credibility are you referring to here?

Powell was asked resign. He did not get along with either Cheney or Rumsfeldt.

drinking champagne....that's it I am now voting for Bob Barr because he pledged only to eat kosher hotdogs and stale crackers until after the election!

Powell endorces Obama only because Obama is an African American. Nobody believes Obama's Western European type socialist economics ideas impress the general.

If you had ever listened to Powell speak he is very much a liberal when it comes to just about anything but foreign policy... I do not think Powell endorsed him because he is a black guy. He endorsed him because he wants a position in his admin

I don't think he endorsed him because he wants a position in Obama's cabinet. He has been burned before in politics and I don’t believe he will put himself in that position again.

I think he is one of those people that lives by his word and honor. His overall views may align with the Republican Party but his first allegiance is to what he thinks is best for this nation. I’ll bet he agonized over his decision...it went against his military mindset.

I believe he is a Republican politician in the mold of Eisenhower…he should have known better to associate with the likes of Bush and Cheney. It will take a lot for him to take a chance like that again.

Besides... you would think a socialist with champagne tastes was on the right track to free-market holyness.

This is odd. A month ago Powell was undecided... that's not really too much of an endorsement.

quote:

Colin Powell, the first African-American Secretary of State, said this afternoon that electing an African-American US president would be “electrifying” for the world, but he said he still remains undecided between McCain and Obama.

Appearing today at George Washington University with four other former US Secretaries of State -- Madeleine Albright, James Baker, Warren Christopher, and Henry Kissinger -- Powell and the panel were asked by a student whether they thought America electing Obama president would send a more powerful image overseas than John McCain.

Don't the world's socialist elite normally dine on Iranian caviar while the little people starve?

And aren't sturgeon (the source of caviar) endangered in most parts of the world...

So much for the environment.

Oh, so by this logic anyone who endorses McCain who is also white is doing it only because they are both white.

How very racist.

I am quite certain you would be playing an entirely different tune if he had endorsed McCain.
