I don't think either side has the 100% right answer in this area and I like to think that the decision to abort is not something that is easy for anyone to decide to do. It's a decision that brings about a lot of lifelong what ifs, and all people taking this decision are aware of that I feel.

We are getting a bit of topic I think though because this isn't about the rights and wrongs of abortion, you can search for any number of threads where that has been argued about (no one ever debates it). I thought this thread was about the morality of politicians in terms of how they barter these rights away without proper debate or without reference to the debates that have occurred in the past in the house of commons which formed the majority legal standpoint on abortion laws in the UK. The point is the debate has occurred, the laws have been formed and those laws should also cover Northern Ireland unless the national assembly has a debate and come to a different conclusion (depending on if the national assembly has law making powers in this area.)

We can argue about abortion all day but past experience tells me people have their views and they are not going to change them on this issue.

It's not politics so much as absolute government control of basic freedom. Telling a woman what she can and can't do with her own body, telling people they can't say or print certain things, jailing people who defend themselves with deadly force when deadly force be taken against them on the street, forcing firearm registration or taking them away from the common people--you get all that when you have government control to the point the UK has it.

And from what I see, it's coming soon here in the US too!

If you think the UK is a police state, i suggest you visit somewhere that really is a police state.

Citizens have been used so many times as pawns that its very easy to find the claim of a deal plausible.
Probably why so many are doing.

Again i agree with you that some sort of deal was made, but look at it this way. If the DUP really had a hold over Brown, they would have made some sort of deal that benefited Unionists only. Thats to say that no political party in Northern Ireland wanted the abortion law changed.

Sounds a lot like American politics. I am very impressed that y'all have such ready access to abortion services; it's legal here (for the time being) but is unavailable in 89% of counties in the US and is often financially prohibitive. I envy the England's greater pragmatism and lesser religious influence in their law-making.
