McCain made a very gracious statement, and is overall a very good man who loves this country, a better man than some in his campaign, which, of course, is just as true for Obama. But Obama will be our next President. And for those of you, black and white, who felt that his race was important, be advised: It isn't anymore. Whether we will be happy with him down the road remains to be seen. But right now, we owe it to our country to stand behind him. I'll be there.

I hope you are right.  I'm getting sick of hearing about him being the first African-American President.  He's the President-elect, and his skin color is a non-issue.  He knows that history will judge him on his actions and his accomplishments, not his ancestry.

Would that everybody got judged like that.

The problem is that the party abandoned their philosophies many years ago. I would actually like to see the Republican party become non-existant and another party take it's place. It would be a good lesson to other parties in the future.

Greetings, Orion.

I wonder if they'll go back to the old philosophies, and decouple themselves from the religous right.  Maybe the think tanks will find new avenues for the party.

I wish there was a party that truly represented me – fiscally conservative but socially liberal.  Alas…

Me too.

Concession speeches usually are gracious.  In you think about it, what else can you be under the circumstances?  The crowd was gracious too.  Sure they booed when McCain admitted defeat but the loosing crowd always boos at that news.  They were gracious to, after that.

If you are talking about the Franklin/What’s-his-name race, last I saw it’s still to close to call.  I admit to being divided on this one.  On the one hand, Franklin is a loon who has no business being anywhere near a government office.  On the other hand, his antics would be amusing to watch.

Chuckles, i can't help this while watching this whole race become about the color of his skin, but something tells me if the Man doesn't come through on his promises, how much do you wanna bet his WHITENESS will be spouted lol, but but but he's not just black you know, he's white too and that's why he screwed up.

Okay yeah, he's the first Black President, and umm he is the 44th White President also.  But i guess that isn't important.  I guess its also not important that this election he wasn't the best candidate according to many, he is simply the lesser of the two evils once again.  His battle is just beginning, and it ain't about his being black.

And to some, he is a beacon of hope, and the very fact that the country came together to support him shows enormous growth on our part. Today we showed the world that we're not quite as ignorant and racist as the past 8 years have led them to believe. Today we showed our children that they really can do anything, no matter what color they are.

Well, personally, i believe Colin Powell showed that many years ago, i think the Senators and CEOS and college grads and people doing what they dream of in this country no matter what their color is more realistic to show our children, i think Condi does also.  I was honestly more impressed wit him becoming a Senator in Chicago than i am with him becoming President.  To me him becoming a Senator in Chicago was monumental to me.   I am a Chicago baby, and when my racist white friends from the southside called me calling Obama -- Obama baby, believe me, that alone told me the Man could become President.

I think the small heros of the country speak loudly to children and should be shown to the children.  He isn't a beacon of hope, if he were white, he would simply be the 44th President of the US who now has a long hard road ahead of him - who people are watching to see if he is capable of actually doing what he promised.  I am not sure how the past 8 years showed our country to be racist.  You are joking right?  To me, if this is the only thing that shows children they can do anything than to me, the people who matter to these kids aren't doing what they should be.

You can tell a kid he can be anything, but when only white men can be elected to the country's highest office, you prove that to be so much lip service. I don't have the time or energy to go into the last 8 years right now. I'm going to go gaze lovingly at the numbers one more time, whisper sweet nothings to the Senate and House which our party will now control, and catch a few hours of sleep before I take my elated teenagers to school.

Obama SLAUGHTERED McCain on electoral votes.
Initially, I supported him simply because McCain said he's appoint supreme court judges to topple Roe v Wade and I will NOT do anythingto feed into that.
I am a bit surprised at how relieved I am thatObamahas been elected.  It's such a strange eletion.  I know racists who voted for Obama, Democrats who refused to vote for him, etc., etc., etc.
I feel hope!  :>  I am looking forward to a President of intellect and who will, hopefully, make us less of a laughing stock in front of the rest of the world.  Now we wait for January 20th!
