Try Article III, Section 2:

quote:

In all Cases affecting Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, and those in which a State shall be Party, the supreme Court shall have original Jurisdiction. In all the other Cases before mentioned, the supreme Court shall have appellate Jurisdiction, both as to Law and Fact, with such Exceptions, and under such Regulations as the Congress shall make.

Oh and check out the Federalist #78 while you're at it.

Thanks for playing, see Chip for your parting gift!

where in the constitutional is the supreme court given judicial review?

Ok, Obama haters... deal with it. HE is THE PRESIDENT ELECT!

You don't have to like it, any better than many of us liked it when GW was elected.  It's your turn to suck it up now...

um...I despise obama, just as I despise Bush. I didn't suck it up during the years of Bush and remained critical of everything he did...just as I will as obama ruins everything he touches.

Bita,

My point is that there is no overwealming mandate when many of the states you win were at 51% to 48%.
and the national popular vote reflects that same ratio

Totals from 73 percent of all U.S. precincts tallied showed Obama with 51.3 percent to McCain’s 47.5 percent.

Clinton thought he had a mandate in his first term and over reached and he got himself clobbered with a mid term election telling him Oh now wait a minute, and shifted the Congress to Republican control.
My Hope is that Obama has the advisors and the sense to do as his speech and his late national campaign move to the center.

Congratulations to the President elect Obama and his supporters.
As mentioned a few times already, this election was watched around the world.

But sadly,

I'm addressing the general sentiment that electing a black man is a huge step forward for america. if anything, the enthusiasm for electing a black man says to me that we haven't 'moved forward' very much...

I think he is right in that point.
If Obama had lost, and nobody would have felt it was because of the color of his skin, that would be the Huge Step.

I wrote this to someone this morning.

I feel good this morning, because every one of us, whether a man or women, black, white, or any nationality, every one of our children, & grandchildren can grow up believing this truly is America, our dreams really do matter, & every dream really can come true.

It wasn't so long ago, when women were not allowed to vote, and even less time has passed since people weren't able to vote due to the color of their skin.  I am hopeful this morning.

In the end, I did vote for him, but wasn't his most ardent supported.  It was for me, the lesser of two evils.  I am still not sure about him.  I am still not sure he is any more than a great orator, nor am I sure his books weren't written by a ghost writer.  I am not sure he is any more than fluffy hot air, but he has his chance now, to prove he is otherwise and he has most of the country behind him.  He will need it.  A good leader needs the people he leads to stand behind him.  Last night, most of us, as a country, have shown him that we will.

We can start, as a country to heal now, but, it is my opinion, that supporting our leaders, doesn't necessarily mean to keep quiet and support someone aimlessly because the crowd adores him.  We need to make our voices heard when we disagree, as well.  I hope the people of America will never stop speaking up.

Lastly, I am very proud today, as every day, but maybe more so today, to be an American, where dreams can come true for every one of us.

Firsts are always noted, it is a huge step, it doesnt mean that racism doesnt exsist course it does and of course no one would have mentioned it if it didnt, but the fact that despite this he got in is a huge step, but one of many a step doesnt complete the journy

I didn't expect to be anywhere near this emotional about him winning.  I thought I be happy, proud, relieved, etc.  I didn't think I would be crying.  I fell hard for him when his speeches made me see the possibility of the return of the America I was proud to be a part of.  Tonight I feel like I just watched it be born again...

BTW, McCain is doing a great job with his concession speech and deserves the utmost respect for it.

It's because we are now relieved of an 8 year dictatorship based on greed and chronyism.  We ALL banded together and chose on the basis of the man, the issues and hope.  I'm proud to be an American again.

Lotus, you assume much.  Many voted against McPalin rater than for Obama.  As in every election in this country, there was no overriding grasp of issues.  Many of those voting couldn't even tell you what their candidate stood for.
I vote for Obama because McCain self destructed near the end of the campaign.  He acted without class and dignity.  If he could not hold it together under the stress of the campaign trail, I figured he would not be able to make it in the Oral Orifice.
It would be nice if what you said were true but alas, it is not.  Some voted due to color.  Some voted because they were antirepublican (one told me he would vote for his truck before voting for anypub).  Some voted on charisma regardless of issues.
However, the fact that someone was able to run on hope rather than hate is a definate improvement over years past.  My hope is that he can pull off what he promised or even half of it.  Unlike what another poster said, I think most of them forget their promises as soon as they are elected.  At this point Obama has the potential to be remembered as the best president or the worst.  His actions will decide which it is.

The dust has settled.  Congradulations to Persident elect Obama!

Now, we have to face the problems.  I expect years of belt tightening and financial difficulties.  Its just how it is going to be.

Surely, the next four years cannot cause more of a financial burden than the past year has.

Time will tell.

He could kill two birds with one stone by having a massive infrastructure program, roads, bridges, sewer lines, electrical, water lines, hospitals, all kinds of things and put the *working man* in this country back to work at *good wages!*
That'll help everyone!

It didn't help the Japanese when they tried to spend their way out of recession in a similar fashion; in fact, it exacerbated the situation. I would never have had you down as a proponent of large, public schemes, Popeye........'suppose election fever is turning a few minds over there.

NG, one, we're not the Japanese and two I'm in favor of them if we need them.
They say that there's something like 600-800 bridges in the country that should be replaced.
It's not "spending our way out of recession" it's spending money on things that need it.
It's spending money on things that have been neglected for far too long.

Prolonging the Depression by 7 years would qualify as making things worse.

I wonder if Obama has the balls to push to have that atrocity put to death?  I didn't vote for either Obama or McCain, though I considered each of them long and hard.  The repeal of the Patriot Act would probably get him my vote, four years from now, provided he manages anything even close to a tolerable administration.

Never  said anything really  anti  Obama, now if  I really wanted to I could I am just stating the facts. He wants  to do all these things, but guess what he doesn't have the money for them
Perhaps he could start with the 200 billion a year we are spending in the "sandbox"  Next he might use the 700 billion in welfare that is being given to the bankers and insurance companies.

and you  know where he is going to go  first to get the money the working middle class americans prepare to see your taxes go through the roof and the lazy asses get all the benfits and not to mention health care will be a joke when the gov. gets to decided what your quality of  life is .
Do you think it is better to let some "bean counter" in a for profit health care system to determine your quality of life?

I also find it funny how he can claim he is a christian yet  is against everything they stand for, sorry just  dont trust him regardless of  his skin color. But like I said early I hope he lives up to the expections of everyone that voted for him because its going to be one tough thing to do. If people really wanted the change  they would  start in congress cuz thats where it needs to happen  and my friend brought a  good point we'll see what everyone believes when he finally sits at the whitehouse and our government basically says "no, sorry.. you can't do that... and this is why.." so many times that he has a nervous breakdown and finally winds up with the same fiscal plans and budget of every other president ,the president doesn't run things, the government does... congress.. and the pentagon, all the president does is play show & tell with the public all day to make it look like he even knows what the hell's going on behind the scenes, cause really he doesn't. That's my little blurb for this  evening good luck to all you Obama supporters

That's not the same as going to someone's land, stealing them, selling them and forcing them to come to a foreign place in chains and subjugate them for profits. When we finally fought a civil war that was supposed to cease such actions, we still and for generations did everything in our power to subjugate and separate people simply because of their DNA. We came here and conquered .. we went overseas and stole. Conquering, not pretty .. but stealing, thievery  ... that's dishonorable. Tonight we took a baby step in trying to rectify that as well.

YMMV

well...we didn't go into a country to steal people. we bought slaves from african traders (and I believe a lot of arabs were selling africans as slaves also). now it is unquestionable that slavery is as unethical as it gets...but to think that electing someone who happens to have more melanin in their skin 'makes up' for what happened in the past strikes me as odd. to me, it seems completely irrelevent.

and let's not get started on the war of northern aggression.

I've read a number of your post's Variation and I have tried not to respond,I am too happy to deal with the haters today....I have edited out the rest of this post...my first instinct was correct this is too good a day ,this thread is one of celebration despite the discordant notes injected...I will not add to them.

what the fuck is the War of Northern Aggression...I can't recall this war...please help me with this confusion.

I believe he is referring to the Civil War--in which the North preserved the Union but shredded the Constitution by dragging the Confederate States back into the Union by force of arms (and then backhandedly acknowledged the right of secession by treating the Confederate States as conquered territories).

End of thread hijack....we've had this debate already.
