Never  said anything really  anti  Obama, now if  I really wanted to I could I am just stating the facts. He wants  to do all these things, but guess what he doesn't have the money for them and you  know where he is going to go  first to get the money the working middle class americans prepare to see your taxes go through the roof and the lazy asses get all the benfits and not to mention health care will be a joke when the gov. gets to decided what your quality of  life is .  I also find it funny how he can claim he is a christian yet  is against everything they stand for, sorry just  dont trust him regardless of  his skin color. But like I said early I hope he lives up to the expections of everyone that voted for him because its going to be one tough thing to do. If people really wanted the change  they would  start in congress cuz thats where it needs to happen  and my friend brought a  good point we'll see what everyone believes when he finally sits at the whitehouse and our government basically says "no, sorry.. you can't do that... and this is why.." so many times that he has a nervous breakdown and finally winds up with the same fiscal plans and budget of every other president ,the president doesn't run things, the government does... congress.. and the pentagon, all the president does is play show & tell with the public all day to make it look like he even knows what the hell's going on behind the scenes, cause really he doesn't. That's my little blurb for this  evening good luck to all you Obama supporters

just out of curiosity, is all your information coming from your "friend"?

and, yes, our government is supposedly ran by checks and balances.  though, we have often seen how far that goes, or doesnt go, as well.

and, to add a bit of knowledge to your many years of knowledge you already possess.  the president has a bit more power than that.  dont discount the man with the power of veto as just a figure head.

as far as taxes... where do you think the money for the bailout is coming from?  who do you think will pay for that?  i was totally against it, myself, but, its what our goverment decided was the best option.  you cant blame the government for what crooked people in power do with the money once they get it.  why not count those CEOs with the golden parachutes as part of the problem?  the money hungry investors who kept the gas prices high for so long... and will probably be back to inflate them even more. include them as well? while you are sitting in your middle american home, there are millions below poverty level.  most people these days are one or two paychecks from losing everything.  These are the people who placed Obama into office.  its their trust he won.  every election is a dice shoot, and we all pray for something better for ourselves and our children.

Tonight is the first night that I have ever been disappointed in being an american.

its a shame someone as young as you with all the possibilites and potential at your feet would be so cynical.  if you dont like the options, exercise your rights to infect change instead of hatred.

and, for my final comment, dear, sweet daddysub.... be thankful you live in a country that allows your view points to be spoken with such hostility.  in some countries, you would have been arrested for your words

God Bless America!

this is interesting if anyone remembers obama in the town hall so called debate mentioned that everyone should have the same kind of health care plan as the people in congress (do not think so no way they will do that)

the above article is how the congress looks out for themselves and not the people which is what they are supposed to do

I am very happy and relieved that the election was a clear win for Senator Obama and that the celebrations in cities across the US and the rest of the world were peaceful.

Native American women also got undesired, unrequested, unneeded and uninformed hysterectomies as late as 1975. http://www.whale.to/b/heavner.html , by the government. They have been moved off of reservations when oil, gold, or other precious materials have been found and relocated to land that barely sustains life. Native Americans have been raped, held as slaves (yes some sold other NA's as slaves or kept them themselves, some tribes would lay down and die rather than submit), infected with influenza and small pox to kill them off and starved.

The free homes you speak of are far from free, most are the equivalent of FEMA trailers and low cost housing, and this is how they live until a Tribe does make enough money to actually build  homes like many of us take for granted. Native Americans must leave reservations if they desire a good education, and many of the religions (there were many) have vanished under decades of Missionary indoctrination, the few that still remain, are Tourist attractions for the most part. Most can barely speak their native tongue and there are few remaining elsewhere in a "home country" that can teach them. Few tribes exist where hundreds once did, they have been assimilated into several major tribes.

The Percentage of the Total Population Who Are American Indian and Alaska Native Alone: 2006 can be found here : http://factfinder.census.gov/servlet/GRTTable?_bm=y&-geo_id=01000US&-_box_head_nbr=R0203&-ds_name=ACS_2007_1YR_G00_&-redoLog=false&-format=US-30&-mt_name=ACS_2006_EST_G00_R0203_US30 . The Highest is Alaska at 13.5% or in numbers out of 683,478 living in Alaska in 2007, 88, 852 of them were of the race that originally settled that land. Georgia a smaller state has a higher percentage of African Americans at 29.8% out of a 9 million person census in 2007. Given far too short a time, the Original Population of this country will be completely assimilated and an entire way of life will exist only as artifacts in a museum.

Their grave mounds have been ransacked for artifacts, sacred lands developed and sold and many of the "Native Art" pieces that are available are made in china ( always check the tag on your Navaho rug) and jewelry in Mexico (Mexican Silver and Turqouise must be marked as such).

Being 1/3 of each of 3 races (Irish, Apach and Black) I have had a strong interest in my genetic past (you would be surprised at how it can affect your health). Being stolen or sold by your country, is not greater or less in it's impact than having that country stolen from you. Either is a tragedy and leaves a long and bitter memory.

But, we are a country of many people, many ethnicities, cultures and unity is possible here. We saw that happen last night. I hope to see it continue for many years to come.

BlackPhx, that's very interesting.
I read one time that some scientists did DNA studies on the remains of a bunch of NativeAmericans's that were a thousand or 2000 years old and they found that 40% or so of the remains had Celtic DNA!
When I first moved here to S. Carolina  I was told by a bunch of guys, "redneck" types that there was a tribe of "white" Indians up in N. Carolina, blue eyes, blonde hair, the "Lumbee Indians."
They said that the actress Heather Locklear was a member of the Tribe.
I thought they were playing jokes on me so I looked it up on the computer and sure enough, they were right!
Damn, I thought she was Swedish or something.
I wonder where they came from?
We know that the Vikings were in N. America a thousand years ago.

There is a company that will take your DNA and give you as much information as possible regarding your ancestry. Family Tree is one such place http://www.familytreedna.com/ and there are others. People who once thought they were pure one thing or another often find they also have relatives that are of a totally different ethnic extractions.

This world is more of a melting pot than many think and rarely is any race pure unless they have been totally isolated from the world. I suspect many militants of whatever extraction would want to have their DNA genetic family traced..they might find they have been hating themselves. While one would think the genetic pool in one country would be sufficient, eventually everyone would be related to every one else given how often some men and women change partners and spawn. Trade, slavery, exploration, and war are the facilitators of genetic material spread and the world has been at the four facilitators since Ogg first looked up and thought that the other tribe had a better hunting ground. To the victor go the females.

The Bering Strait is not all that wide between Russia and Alaska, I would not be surprised to find common DNA between the Eskimos and certain Russian families, not just the Celts and other Tribes. Makes you wonder why a bit more skin coloring, an extra fold of eye flesh or a last name causes so much trouble and raises so much ire.

The Lumee Indians are a very proud people.  As was often the case, many races run through the indian nation,  Some have african, some white, and some indian.  Many tribes were known to take in run-a-way slaves as well as indentured servants.  The Native Americans, for the most part, were not a people of racism in the beginning.

As far as where they came from, there are many theories.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pembroke,_North_Carolina
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lumbee_Indians

also, look up the play "Strike at the Wind"

also, Eddie Hatcher is an interesting character from that tribe.  his story might explain the frustration of that people.  i didnt agree with how he did things, but, i did applaud his efforts all the same.

The Lumbees are indeed a proud people still trying to find their way and recognition after all this time.

As far as the vikings or whatever.  All people came across before the end of the Ice Age by way of the Barren Straits, as it is told in history.
