I don't think we do eachother any favors by mythologizing how baaaaaaaad it is.  I should hope it isn't notably bad for most of us.

believe me Racquelle i am in no way mythologizing how very bad my period/cramps were. and i highly doubt anyone else either. not every one has "happy periods" like you sweetie. dont make us all sound like liers cuz youve never had a totoaly horrible one.

H >:)

Thank you for saying what I was thinking.... I was just too scared to sound like a bitch... lol

No one called anyone a liar.  I believe some women have some bad experiences.  I have.  But mostly I don't, and I think most women are about the same.  Women who have terrible periods month after month need medical care.  The rest of us need to quit squicking out about stuff that isn't particularly bad.

if i overreacted i am srry.. but it sounded like you were saying us, the ones who have horrid times and talk about it, are all liers cuz it cant possibly be that bad. ive tried getting medical care.. NOTHING is wrong with me. thats the the gyno said.. my body is normal, a lil over weight but it shouldnt cause this problem. i am not saying its horrible for every one on here that says it is, some ppl jsut want attention.. but i do believe most of the ones who say its that bad r telling the truth.. even if its only true in there head. its still true to them.

Ok you will most likely hate this one, but this one has no problems with her time of the month (6 days) no pain, no mood swings, nothing except the bleeding. The bleeding is welcome as it is cleansing the body of a part no longer needed and preparing for the new cycle which may lead to pregnancy....(which is the bad part, one does not want children at this time.)

Lucky you.  Care to trade bodies and see what one is like for the rest of us?  (And ya wouldn't even have to worry 'bout the pregnancy part - mine has been specifically fixed so that isn't possible any longer... )

MarksFantasyGirl -> RE: A Happy period- EVERY woman should read this (11/14/2008 9:50:12 AM)

I would LOVE TO TRADE!  Sweets and I aren't "trying" but an accidental pregnancy would be welcomed... :)  so "that time of the month" just sucks all around..... lol

i'd never go so far as to apply something from my own life to other people with a word like "most."
endometriosis is actually more common than people think and is VERY uncomfortable. same for fibroids.
i'm at a point now where i'm "appreciating" them, after a whole string of terribly depressing events. they still suck in the way that i get moody/near suicidal, anemic, doubled over with pain sometimes, blah blah blah
they're not HORRIBLE things really. the mean 1) you can have kids if you want and 2) you aren't going to have one any time soon. and that's fine with me. but when medical care costs as much as it does, people don't/can't go to the doctor. i'd LOVE to go.
i don't like the pulling feelings in there when one's about to start. if i bend one direction just right around that particular time it feels like being ripped in half. =p not lying and i can name 4 other females off the top of my head with similar issues. as for the others who don't openly talk about menstrual distress, i imagine there are scores of them.
it is more common than people think, especially in a world where women's medical concerns are still dismissed to a degree.

"well everyone has cramps sweetie." i've been told that before
yes i know that, don't call me sweetie, and not everyone has them like i do.

I completely agree with you... Endometriosis runs in my family... my mom and my aunt both had to have hysterectomies (sp) by the time they were 25 because of it... Being 22, and still wanting more children, I am scared... Especially since I can't afford the Dr. visits, and with all the problems I have in that area... From the time I was 10, till I was about 12, I was in and out of the hospital, and Dr.'s offices, and everything else.. they didn't know what was wrong with me... I couldn't explain what I was going through to anyone other than "OW!! MY STOMACH HURTS! I FEEL LIKE I'M BEING STABBED!" Then, my mom took me to the Gyno... I had the start of the condition, plus large cysts on my overies... I was put on Birth control... For a girl who is only 12 years old, who already had a lot of health problems, didn't get her period yet, and then, she gets put on birth control... I found it just humiliating... that was even over 4 years before I started to have sex... It was just BAD... and the nerse at my school must have been one of those that didn't have symptoms... she never cared... I got the migranes and everything, and nothing helped but to lie down in a dark room, and she only gave me 2 regular strength tylenol, and told me to deal with it.... She even accused me of having a drug problem at one point.... So I stopped going to her, and just calling my mom to sign me out of school... Grrr... I never could stand that woman! lol

I recall a guy I worked with, a spiritualist who every month went through what his partner went through, now that's twisted.

I've forwarded this to an ex of mine, she would usually have a ten day period each month.  I'm sure my sister would appreciate this too.

~~Fast Reply~~

Every woman reacts differently and believe it or not have different hormone levels and reactions to them. However...for those who have happy periods please, please, please enjoy them and when you meet a woman who is having a hard time of it..tread softly, pass the Tylenol, Midol and chocolates and duck. Not only do your hormones bounce all over creation, but you slough off an egg and the endometrium of the uterus with every menses. Since the cervix does not expand as it does for birth, it is an often painful trip as more than fluids move through. (Have I grossed out the men yet?). A slow journey as painful as childbirth can be for some women, without the epidural and a coach. I used to wish I could remove my uterous and all attachments, put it on a shelf until it was finished. Happily....

(sung to the tune of happy days are here at last) Menopause is here at last, the family friend is now the past, I am glad it doesn't forever last..Menopause is here at last

FourQ, When I was pregnant, my mom got my morning sickness... The father got the moodiness..... and my stepdad got my cravings.... I had a rather  easy pregnancy... lol

(Actually, my step dad and I craved the same things at the same times... We would just look at each other and just with the look know... and we would say at the same time "TACOS!!" or "ICECREAM!" or even like "CHICKEN BROCCOLI BAKE!!" Like we ALWAYS had the same cravings... it was soooo weird... )

FourQ -> RE: A Happy period- EVERY woman should read this (11/19/2008 3:20:12 AM)

Mark'sFantasyGirl,

I've heard of sisters having simultaneous cravings/symptoms/pains but that's usually twins from what I understand.  I've not heard about a stepdad going through it and certainly not a family sharing the experience to that extent.

My son's mother is/was extraordinarily lucky, you can always tell when it's those four days as she gets horny to legendary levels, she makes adult Manga look like Tom & Jerry.  Every few months (or so) she has cramps that knock her out but she used to take my Tramadol Hydrochloride and that was that.  After Og was born she had no cramps at all.

If that's not enough to turn you all green with envy, the childbirth was 4 hours, 37 minutes without stitches and she can't remember any of it.  She was vaguely aware of "a mate" being in the room with her - the "mate" in question was the midwife!  She was stoned on Entonox and Pethadine so simply remembers waking up after the event.  The midwife who'd been practicing for over 30 years had never heard a mother, during childbirth, tell her partner that she loves him!  She was hated without exception throughout the hospital as she grew to 135lbs claiming her slight bump was "huge" to 200lb midwives.  It didn't go down well.

I have trouble believing that whoever came up with the slogan lived after it came out.  [:-]

FourQ -> RE: A Happy period- EVERY woman should read this (11/19/2008 6:54:15 AM)

An interesting point.  Surely there's women working at P&G.  It's not beyond the realms of possibility for someone to slash the tyres on his car, or torch it, or some other over the top retribution while they're on their period.

Why haven't we heard about a vigilante group of women making him bleed for five days to see how he feels about it?

I made the mistake of reading this entire thread and have come to two conclusions:

1)  I hate all men.
2)  I want chocolate.

mischievousone -> RE: A Happy period- EVERY woman should read this (11/19/2008 6:58:11 PM)

WOW!  I read the begining of the thread thinking that I would add a note of thanks for bringing that letter back.  Then I started reading.........
