This is in Ask a Mistress, and I'm a slave. But for me, all of my primary docs know I actively practice consentual BDSM, and have notes on my chart to that effect (because they have large practices and another doc may see me.) It is easy to say in advance, 'if you sometimes see bruises and marks they come from consentual sex play', and then back that up with, 'that was from consentual play', then to try to convince a doc worried about it when he sees it that you are not being battered. Further more, I am adament about being able to discuss health issues with my doc. On the top of my list of examples of what I probably would never tell a doctor, used to be - I participate in bastinado. I am a brittle diabetic, so, i thought - i just don't want to have that discussion. A year ago i got a toe infection. Just a random thing that happens - but I got a celulitose and ended up sitting in the ER, very frightened about the fate of my leg. I said to the doctor - 'I practice bastinado with my partner. Did we cause this? is this safe?' after asking for a definition and precise description, the doctor said, if you don't break the skin, you should be fine. (Master does my foot inspections for me, he is very aware of my condition.) I had a friend nearly die of food poisoining because she was unwilling to go to the ER covered in bruises from the previous nights play. I tell my doctor everything. I count on medical confidentailty. I am not willing to risk my health by lying to my doctor. When I was hospitalized early in our relationship, Master spent a few days sitting my my hospital bed and chuckling, surprised, i guess, by how forth coming I am with doctors. How can they treat me if i lie to them?
