OK, my take.
We as a group like enslaving people, we like to whip, beat, stick with needles, dunk in water, p** on, s**t on, hang, put in chains, dump hot wax on, ravish, carry off, punish, cbt, cut, fire, and all other sorts of activities.
That being said, some of my closest friends are here. But then, I have never claimed to be sane.

Yes, but a consumate gentleman....always.

im not going to read the thread because its dinner time and i need to boil something for the other occupant of this house....but i will say that i am willing to bet that there are 4 pages of basically the same thing....we are not any more or less civil than any other group as a whole.

i personally am a treat to get to know and a joy to behold on all counts.

When i am clear about personal boundaries and am vocal about how i am to be treated...especially in public, i find most single dominant men to be very respectful when i interact with them in person.

For example....

the root of the word "duality" is the Latin word dualis, which means "containing two."  The root of the word dualis is the word duo.

This public service announcement was brought to you by the "Never Taught a High School General English Class" brainless losers club.

dualism is the default western mode of thinking, and has been for upwards of 3000 years. asking people to change in a minute, a day, a year, or even a century is far too much. For the foreseeable future, the West (and, to tell the truth, much of the world these days. what imperialism did in a century is amazing) will see black and white. Calling it a simplistic view is to call Aristotle simplistic - to call Homer simplistic - to call Kierkegaard simplistic. It's not simple - it's basic to an understanding of the Western mind.

Hello oddjobbery,
When you speak of the "western" mode of thinking - can you be more specific of what culture you are referring to?

nope. this is, in effect, one step closer to real life than any of the other boards you've been on, because being rude on here means you get ignored/shitted on for the rest of your collarme tenure. I would guess that the boards are similar on most vanilla dating sites, as well.

Actually, i just wanted to pause and say, that if you come here alone, and with any sort of attitude....yeah, youre pretty much on your own. But, if you make mistakes, take your lumps and move on like a grown up, you might just manage to create more than a few friendships.[;)]

Welcome to the boards, now dont fuck it up.[;)][;)][;)]

quibbling - it is based off of duo, the adjective dualis, and the greek ism. Is that it? Say something of meaning about dualism, or don't - but kindly don't waste my time with trivialities.

oddjobbery -> RE: Are BDSMers a more civil group of people? (11/25/2008 3:20:58 PM)

no specific culture, all of western thought. the old world and the americas, if that helps.

GreedyTop -> RE: Are BDSMers a more civil group of people? (11/25/2008 3:30:35 PM)

who's turn is it to make the popcorn?

Red... glad to hear you're looking forward to the holidays! *smooch*

And to the op.. I can only repeat whats been said.. people are people regardless of what group or groups they may identify with.  For the most part, here on the boards (and face to face, for that matter) people will get what they give as far as what kinds of responses and reactions they get.  There are exceptions, of course.

From hundreds, maybe 1,000 or more miles away, I wasted your time.  I forced you to read this thread.  I forced you to type a response to my post.  You are right, anyone who posts a dominant profile on CollarMe has complete and utter mind control over everyone who posts a submissive profile on CollarMe.  Well, not anyone... just True Doms like me.

And the Greek is -ismos, not "ism"... but in this case, since the word is Latin-based, the etymology arises from the Latin -ismus.  I'll think about explaining the harder stuff once you stop screwing up the easy stuff.

oddjobbery -> RE: Are BDSMers a more civil group of people? (11/25/2008 3:55:09 PM)

Boring, idiotic, etc. By that logic I forced you to read my original post, blah blah blah, I needn't get into what is basically a poor joke on your part. You jump to conclusions where there are none to be made, bring outside material into a discussion you know you lost right from the beginning, and try to shift the entire conversation away from what it was originally about - you insulting me over something you knew little to nothing about. I don't study greek and latin, that's true - but I never said I did. I made a comment on dualism and you put your foot in your mouth. Insultingly. And now you can't follow up.

Oddjobbery,

Chill little man.  Seriously.  A pretty young thing like you shouldn't be taking things so seriously.  There's no harm in learning to laugh, and appreciating a debate without an adversarial tone.

The only rudeness in this thread that I've read, has come from you.

As to BDSMers being a more civil group? I don't think you can count CM as being 'BDSMers', not like meeting a bunch of people at an event. CM is too wide open for membership and is just a giant group of people posting on boards. Sure there is some commonality among us but there is even more disparity.

I don't think CM is especially polite or nasty, its just an average message board with average folks.

Not sure where you've been hanging out on this board, but I don't see that.

It would seem I am not the only one that sees it as such.  I am certainly not stating everyone here is, but as a new member, a quick review of a few threads, and I rarely found much that wasn't suspicious, at the very least.  Of course, this is true of most larger forums.  People often seem no real need to show much in the way of manners, compassion, and understanding on the internet, which makes me wonder if they are fake in real life, where it seems the decency is more the norm than the exception within the lifestyle.

You've obviously got a totally different comprehension of reading than I do. I've gotten to know some really awesome people on here. Many of whom have posted on this thread.

I never said there were not any "awesome" people on here, only that contrary to the OP's thought that people within this community anywhere might be "nicer" than on other more mainstream forums is quickly proven flawed from a quick perspective, by a fairly new member.  I am sure there are many good and decent people here, however, as in the real world, the good and decent are often drowned out by vocal and opinionated masses.

RedMagic1 -> RE: Are BDSMers a more civil group of people? (11/25/2008 5:56:24 PM)

I'm a fake in real life.  I'm so fake that I don't base my assessment of someone's skill at relationships or Topping on how many public events they show up to.

You do know that the vast majority of people who practice WIITWD take no part in the public scene, right?
