I'm a fake in real life.  I'm so fake that I don't base my assessment of someone's skill at relationships or Topping on how many public events they show up to.

You do know that the vast majority of people who practice WIITWD take no part in the public scene, right?

Always an always interesting note is how quickly people assume I mean them.  By fake, my meaning in this post is meant to reflect people that are act polite and decent when face to face, then go on message boards and act like a-holes.  When there are no face to face meetings, they would seem emboldened to release there innner prick.  As I said, it was not directed at anyone specifically(though one could take a quick look and see one prime example in the recent posts on this thread).  My point in this is that the original poster's belief may hold true in public "in person" situations, but is not the case here.

Phililogy lessons on Collar Me, what a treat.

Sorry, guy, I phrased it in a way you misunderstood.  I didn't assume you meant me.  When  I see people saying "fake" I volunteer to be the first in line, because it's a destructive way to think, and fakehunters are more than welcome to come at me.  I've got no pic.  I claim to have had a very weird life.  I don't go to munches.  There's no reason for anyone to think I'm "real."  And yet....

People aren't "fake" or "real" because of ability or inability to control their tempers in an online medium.

I don't think there is any more civility here than anywhere else one goes.  People are people...and most are strangers too online.

It's a word that puts some people on the defensive.  I don't think going to public events makes anyone real or fake, it's just another fetish really.

No, people are not fake based on tempers(we all have those, some worse than others ;)  ), but it is amusing how many people are so forthright with their insults and cut downs online, which prompts my original thought, is this the real them, or is the real them the one that is a polite decent acting person when people are in fgront of them.  It's almost the same mentality that makes people so bold when wrapped around a large automobile.

Oddjobbery,

Chill little man. Seriously. A pretty young thing like you shouldn't be taking things so seriously. There's no harm in learning to laugh, and appreciating a debate without an adversarial tone.

Word. I was getting way too serious. Thanks :)

You've obviously got a totally different comprehension of reading than I do. I've gotten to know some really awesome people on here. Many of whom have posted on this thread.

I never said there were not any "awesome" people on here, only that contrary to the OP's thought that people within this community anywhere might be "nicer" than on other more mainstream forums is quickly proven flawed from a quick perspective, by a fairly new member.  I am sure there are many good and decent people here, however, as in the real world, the good and decent are often drowned out by vocal and opinionated masses.

Silly me, I've come to like some of the vocal opinionated masses best!

Things would get quite boring without pot stirrers, of course, in some situations thare is too many pot stirrers and not enough soup.

LaTigresse -> RE: Are BDSMers a more civil group of people? (11/26/2008 11:32:54 AM)

Well I make a wicked good pot of soup too.

The reality is that, after you are around a bit, and make it a point to begin reading some people's posts AND, realize that many like me, have a sense a humour that does not translate well. Also, others like me, give our honest opinion without malice but because others read it with their own filters they see malice where none is intended. Thennnnn.... all hell breaks loose until my beloved.....Madame Eleven[:D], or one of her cohorts, steps in and spanks everyone.

Some of the people I liked the least in the beginning, I actually like the most now. Which is really very cool.

Daes -> RE: Are BDSMers a more civil group of people? (11/26/2008 7:28:18 PM)

This is one of those things where you read the topic title and think "Eh really?" Then after a few seconds you start blinking as it begins to sink in that the thread is actually meant to start an actual serious discussion.

-.-
