^ Have you had any ulcer tests?? if those haven't been done yet, you should get one... (although protonix should be helping if it's ulcerous). Prevacid/nexium only works to treat mild acid reflux... if it's an actual ulcer caused by the bulimia, then it needs to be treated differently.

Also... is there ANY way you can (safely) reduce your meds? I have successfully substituted rhodiola for anxiety & kelp to help hypothyroidism... (obviously, ask/check with a professional.) And again, if you want to talk/need support from someone who understands what you're going through- feel free to e-mail me.

I haven't been tested for an ulcer yet. But I'm assuming that is what the GI doctor will do.

I will ask about reducing my meds. I am considering going off the Neurontin b/c it makes me dizzy. And possibly the Cymbalta b/c I'm worried that may be the cause of the GI bleeding. My pharmacist said it can cause bleeding but usually not without use of other medications that cause bleeding. I'm afraid to go off my thyroid pill b/c I had my metabolic rate tested last year before they increased the dose and I was only burning 500 calories a day. I really can't afford to gain any weight b/c I'm so large already. I may try to go off birth control again...but last time I did my periods were awful.

Okay.... hers is a complicated senario.  She doesn't get to ask her question anyway?  shrugs

In the end, only the best doctors can help in such a complex web of symptoms and history and meds.  I still advocate getting second opinions (outside your hospital network too by the way... imagine the money they've made off of not diagnosing you already).  This is a matter of being proactive.

Cmail me about the birth control pill issue.  I can tell you it can play more of a role in poor health than is often thought.  This becomes especially true if you are chubby (speaking as a chubber myself).  It is NOT the full answer, but may help some overall.

Best wishes!  The only update I am really interested in is the one where you quit messing around and go after some answers out of these doctors.  I want to see out of network consultations and I want to see a referral to a better facility.  That is what is going to get to the bottom of this.  Doing the same thing and expecting different results is the definition of insanity (heard/read it somewhere, and it's true).  Time for a change.

Since you know you have a history of having an eating disorder, as hard as it may be to go to see one, perhaps a doctor that specializes in individuals with active eating disorders could bring some clarity here?  I am not saying or implying that your EDO is active but doctors who don't deal with the ramifications day in, dayout may not be as upto date on some of the effects, be they longer or shorter term.  I'd also potentially look at someof the more rare side-effects of any of the meds to see if they could be causing bleeds.
Best wishes to you,
  Davan

The only problem with seeing different doctors is that I have Medicaid and there isn't much of a choice as to who I see. I have to have my primary physican (who they gave me) give me a referral to another doctor or they won't pay for it. And for the most part, they only give referrals within their offices. I had to travel like an hour just to see the nephrologist...and when I went IP for my eating disorder, it was 250 miles away...they would only cover the one hospital.

Get the referral...demand it.  It's your health and it is high time the doctors do what's right for you for a change.  Time to take the gloves off and be bitchy! LOL

Dollparts, Hi I am soo sorry about your health issue but please get second referrals outside of the doctors hospitals, you have that right, demand it. Letting a doc from another hospital look over everything, is very important. The GI bleeding and your past history of eating disorders are things that they should have made priority . Good luck and also research all your meds and supplements for any sideeffects  and interactions.

Thanks. I have called my local pharamcy and told them of my symptoms and they looked up all my meds and the only thing they found was the Cymbalta can cause an increased bleeding risk. Several can increase blood pressure though. But my bp was never dangerously high or anything. And it may be high at one appointment and then not a few hours later at another appointment. So I think thats just anxiety related.

I will ask if there is another office I could go to but I don't really even know of one. LOL Everything seems to be Guthrie around here.

Unstable blood pressure (especially high) can cause small vessels to rupture.  Just a thought.

Yeah I know. I think that may be the cause of the nose bleeds, maybe.

Those tiny blood vessels are in all parts of your body.  I hope you can get some answers soon.  Internal bleeding in the long term just isn't an acceptable state of affairs as far as I'm concerned.

Call the State Agency that oversees the program and ask guidance for how to get the referrals that you need.  Have your questions written down in advance and be prepared to wait on hold.

Thank you.

Yes, Lisinopril is a blood pressure medication. My blood pressure is high sometimes (like 130/86) when I'm anxious so the nephrologist thought that maybe adding a low dose ACE inhibitor may take some stress off my kidneys and reduce the proteinuria. If it wasn't for the protein, I wouldn't need to take it for just the blood pressure. I only take 5 mg.

Protein in your urine CAN be an indicator of a blood pressure problem, or even diabetes, or a wide variety of other problems. They look for protein in your urine during pregnancy, because it is one of the first signs of preeclampsia.

I'm so sorry people have to go through this much medical BS. I've been there and done that most of my adult life. If you don't mind, please message me and keep me updated. I will keep you in my (mostly non-religious, but spiritual nonetheless) prayers.

Thank you. I saw the GI doctor yesterday and he's having a lot of tests done. I have a colonoscopy and endoscopy schedualed for the 26th. ugh LOL but I knew that was coming. And I collected some stool samples today to check for infection and all. And he took some blood samples to check for Celiacs disease (sp? something like that...a wheat intolerance, I believe it is?) and I'm not sure what else he was checking for. But yeah...I'm hopeful they find out the cause. I asked him if the blood in my urine and nose bleeds could be related and he doesn't think so. He also prescribed Prevacid for my indigestion.

Celiac's disease is very common, it's an allergy to gluten, which is found in most grains. Other than the poo problems, you don't really have anything that would have indicated celiacs disease to me, but what the heck do I know? I've been researching it though because my so called IBS is so severe that it probably is celiac's. A lot of people have it and never know.

Well usually, it's very obvious to people with celiac's that would be that severe, they experience worse/more horrible/more frequent symptoms when they eat a ton of gluten than when they don't... you haven't mentioned anything that would indicate this is a food problem since your symptoms seem to be constant and don't vary day to day depending what you eat...

or DO they...?
