Thank you. I have talked to my pharmacist and they didn't find any interactions. He said the Cymbalta can sometimes cause bleeding if taken with NSAIDs or blood thinners but I don't take those so I don't know if it's that or not. I've asked two of my doctors and they both don't think it's that. I know about the grapefruit b/c I believe it's the Buspar I take that you can't have grapefruit with it. I don't mind though cuz I can't stand it. haha

I do have hypothyroidism but it's under control with medication.

Doctors are not always on top of interactions, pharmacists are thanks to their computers. You would be surprised where foods (like grapefruit) and supplements even herbal can have effects. People tend to assume that because it is a vitamin or an herbal supplement it is safe..but that ain't necessarily so.

You may also want to see an endocrinologist and have a full work up including thyroid if it hasn't been done. Bulemia and Anorexia can have long term effects on your endocrine system and even a subtle shift in the hormones can have system wide effects.

I know certain drugs like seroquel are not able to be absorbed into the bloodstream if you eat grapefruit within a certain time frame of taking it... are there any others that have a different reaction? My experience was that I still got enough of the medicine(s) that I didnt feel that the grapefruit interfered all that much.

Just curious on this... Sorry for cluttering up the thread

Some of the other drugs affected by Grapefruit juice ( not sure why grapefruit but not orange juice ) are:
Drug and Food Interactions:
Do not take Grapefruit Juice without talking to your doctor first if you are taking (partial list):
  • Albendazole (Albenza(R))
  • Alfuzosin (Uroxatral(TM))
  • Amiodarone (Cordarone(R), Pacerone(R))
  • Buspirone (Buspar(R))
  • Carbamazepine (Tegretol(R))
  • Cisapride (Propulsid(R))
  • Clomipramine (Anafranil(R))
  • Etoposide (Vepesid(R))
  • Fexofenadine (Allegra(R))
  • Fluvoxamine (Luvox(R))
  • Itraconazole (Sporanox(R))
  • Quinidine (Quinidex(R))
  • Saquinavir (Invirase(R))
  • Sertraline (Zoloft(R))
  • Sildenafil (Viagra(R))
  • High blood pressure medicine (examples: amlodipine (Norvasc(R)), felodipine (Plendil(R)), nifedipine (Adalat (R)), diltiazem (Cardizem(R), Dilacor(R)), verapamil (Calan(R), Isoptin(R)))

  • Estrogen (examples: conjugated estrogens (Premarin(R)), birth control pills)
There are many others I am sure, check the label on your bottle, the drug manufacturers inserts or website and with your pharmacist. Some it seems to block uptake on others it seems to render useless completely or it can make them doubly effective leading to overdose. I just eliminated it from my diet completely and make sure none of the supplements I take contain it. Be wary of hybrids of Grapefruit as well such as Ugli fruit and Plumeria. If it looks like it might have grapefruit as an ancestor, skip it.

Um, mystick -

If you just joined CM a week ago, or just started posting on the boards since about 6 months ago, you have no freaking idea the stories we have heard from this person.  Intimate, weird, details of every nook and cranny or every odd disorder known and unknown to the medical community far and wide.  She asks for information, discredits everything, tells repliers how their suggestions will not work for her, even though they work for the rest of the world, then gets pissy about people judging her.  So, before you go poking sticks in people's eyes...  just ask around.

Maybe you should ask your doctor if the interaction of these many drugs could be part of the problem. I'm not a medical expert I just don't know many people taking that many drugs, you should perhaps pick the symptoms you could live with for a while and ask your doctor if you could go without the relevant drug for a while.

I have a lot of medical problems and for a while I was on that many meds, if not more. I am not even the type to take a pill for my problems, but I got so desperate for relief I was willing to try anything!!

Drug interactions have been mentioned several times already, BTW.
