Does anyone out there have TMJ? Temporal Madibular Joint something or other? Its where your jaw bones pop and hurt, often caused by clenching your jaw or sometimes from car accidents or things, it can be very painful and limits range of jaw movement. I am lucky in many ways, the TMJ is not usually too bad but in giving my current Dom head- he is quite "girthy", I have a real hard time opening my mouth wide enough to accomodate him comfortably- I can get him in my mouth but there isn't also enough room to breathe and it leads to panic and choking/ gagging when he pushes in too deeply (more than say halfway). I have not had this problem before with more averagly endowed men, I suppose I should not complain (except that he has yet to break me in for anal sex with him... yikes) but does anyone have any suggestions for dealing with the jaw discomfort and increasing range of motion so that I will be able to open my mouth wider? Any suggestions from people dealing with this problem would be most welcome.

I have TMJ and I could not give head to anyone for many, many years. I now go to have my back cracked every week (been doing so for over a year) and am able to use my jaw properly (much to my partner's joy). If they can link your TMJ to back or neck alignment you can even get it covered under most health plans (if you have one). Find a good chiropractor in your area and see what they can do. Most will give free initial visits.

that's a google search for tmj in general; you can click on one of the many sites and read what they say. it's one thing insurance companies can be notorious in excluding from benefits they pay.

Greetings..~smiles~

Has TMJ also encountering the same problems as you nelbot. I find if I do alot of slow neck rotations with my mouth open in a comfortable position it will allow for the cracking of it back into it's normal position, which usually isn't "normal" but normal for comfort for me. When giving a BJ ..I'll tend to be very diverse and instead of just attatching myself like a hoover on speed..I'll literally make love to every portions within that region (imagination) which allows for brief respites of the jaw while still giving pleasure.

The gagging part I've learned to go with when it happens, and just make a quick withdrawel if allowed, to qwell it, and plunge back in. Master know's about how many gag reflexes it takes before a not so pleasant event would occur..lol.

I've said this before somewhere in a deep throating thread which some probably find humorous but if your allowed to have some free reign when giving head..try taking in just to the point where you feel a gag reflex might come..hold that position and pick a song to sing. I like i'm a little tea pot..Master sometimes just has me recite the alphabet. Don't concentrate on the song as your singing it but take notice of how your mouth positions around the cock even with that certain depth, and what points you feel that queeze slip away. When your getting your face pounded with no control those slight variations of suctioning position can help alot to give you that quick relief or gain of air.

Thank you starshine, I agree that there is much more to giving head than hoovering down on the monster but Master likes what he likes and gives me only some control, plus I believe some of it is less about what really feels good and is more about putting me in a submissive position. I think as he gets to know me, he is more confidant that I know my place (or finds other torments to demonstrate to me my place) and we work on it together- he did say he would let me practice as much as I want *grins*- he will trust that not only am I conscientious and talented but also capable of giving him what feels good to him he will trust me more and maybe sometimes at least allow me to have more control. Geez in the vanilla world I was considered great at blow jobs, always rave reviews but the forced deep throat is tough to swallow (yeah yeah bad pun I know) well I will suggest the alphabet method you described and if he is as willing to work with me to get past this hurdle as he seems to be we can try that perhaps! Thanks again for the great advice!

Does anyone out there have TMJ? <snip>.... but does anyone have any suggestions for dealing with the jaw discomfort and increasing range of motion so that I will be able to open my mouth wider? Any suggestions from people dealing with this problem would be most welcome.

I have TMJ , from dental malpractice back in 1986. The pain was daily and excruciating for over ten years, until I spent thousands of dollars, underwent a few different procedures, and care from several practitioners. One of the "cures" actually made the situation worse. ALL of them told me not to open my mouth wide, and not to even eat a hot dog (lol...hot dog...yeah right! ). Fortunately, for me, I've never been a fan of giving oral sex, so it was no loss to me, on that end. In spite of having a "big" mouth...my mouth actually is quite small.

Anyway, the pain I experienced would never make me even "try" to open wide for anyone. ANY overextension can set the pain back in motion, and I don't feel anyone is worth that type of pain. It's not the "good" pain, as I'm sure you know. (And now I have the Doctor's note excusing me! )

Something you might consider, what if you're going down on him, and your jaw locks?????? Oh, the horror story you'll be posting then.

Honestly, I would recommend that two find another way to enjoy one another, if you truly treasure your well being. On the general side of painful things...besides an earache, I don't know a worse pain. The earache will usually get better...the TMJ...usually doesn't go away.

Yes, I have this problem as well; in my case, it comes from clenching my teeth at night. I finally got a mouth guard to wear in my sleep - very sexy :P. I recommend talking with your dentist, although it takes a range of professionals/specialists to deal fully with TMJ. Also, progressive relaxation or other excersizes that take tension away from your head and spine are key.

I am having dental work done in a week to actually help my tmj because it has gotten to the point where it locks even if I'm just laying on my side to long... however I have found that doing some deep breathing and relaxation exercises helps to relax the muscles of the jaw to give it just a wee tad more motion and it helps with pain as well... just my two cents...

Some TMJ is from serious chronic reasons.

If your is fairly isolated i shouldn't be a problem.

I once got TMJ from giving my GF head too often, and the dentist disagreed with me on my assessment, lol, but I KNOW that's what it was from ;)

Anyway, lay off the head for a few days and take a light muscle relaxant like motrin.

I have TMJ though not as bad as some of you have stated. I agree with sweetpettjenny - warm compresses! And you should try taking some pain reliever (anti-inflammatory) before you're going to be performing oral sex (I do this before going to the dentist too). I know it can be excruciating to have to hold my mouth open for dental work. Usually they end up putting a dental block (?) in for me and giving me rest periods every few minutes to close my jaw. It's no better trying to do oral for prolonged periods of time either.

If you're dead set on giving a BJ get your hands in there! Focus on the head and use your hands to pleasure the rest of it. He still enjoys himself and you're saved the headache (pun fully intended).

~Ms. A~

BTW: Thanks siamsa for that interesting tidbit about TMJ possibly being related to back problems - I'll have to look into that.
