LaTigresse -> RE: What do morning people do? (11/23/2008 4:51:40 PM)

I've often wished I was less of a morning person. I wake up, wide awake. Don't need coffee or caffiene to be alert. It really is disgusting. Especially after a night out. The rest of the house will be nursing sore heads and queasy tummies and I am up, having fed animals, been outside a few times and am cooking a rare steak or some bacon and eggs. They groan and curse me.

Once I got up, did a two hour round trip drive and came back with warm, fresh, rolls before everyone had risen, after a group night out.

Yet, try to have an intelligent conversation with me a 10PM.............good luck. I am out of it.

MissIsis -> RE: What do morning people do? (11/23/2008 4:55:06 PM)

I always wake up early, always have.  I visit with my animals, make coffee, make myself breakfast, enjoy the quiet.  If it is a nice day, I will often sit out on the porch for a little while & enjoy the birds singing.  I take my time getting ready for work.  I have time to read, do research, send people emails, enjoy my pets, wash my hair, watch mindless sitcoms, & sometimes, I will even do the housework that I am not up to doing at night.  Morning is my favorite & most productive time of the day.

Well see, the thing is that I live alone, so I can pretty much have quiet whenever I want it.  I'm much less productive in the mornings & if I get up early enough, my production level just continues to drop as the day wears on.  Many, many days I have been so tired in the afternoon & tell myself that I can go to bed early, but if I don't hit the sack by 8pm, my energy level rises & I'm wide awake & not going to bed till midnight again.

….lol ... I'm one of those chirpy happy "morn'n folk ... been that way ALL my life!!!
I just posted a typical morning over in "I love it when ..."

I'm honestly awake by 4:00 a.m. EVERY morning .. Have a cup or 2 of coffee … by 5:00 I’m out with the horses … feed / water.. clean stalls, come back in … shower, have some breakfast.
I'm entirely useless before noontime.   I can wake up early, but my brain doesn't engage until much later.   Have no problem staying up all night, but without the need for it at this point, being a nightowl is sometimes annoying.
I wish I could be a rested cheary morning person.   M

omg i do the EXACT same thing, as a matter of fact, i did that tonight...

i was exhausted at like 8 or 9, and then i was waiting for my boyfriend to get back from visiting his little ones, (i do that to make sure he has an ear to listen as far as the dealings with the ex, and to make sure he had a safe drive home) which happened at 11, and now, i'm wide awake (it's 1:30am) and clueless what to do about it

last night i was asleep by 9:30 and it felt really good... but now i'm gonna be all screwed up when it comes time for wakeup again in the morning...

maybe there's a CLASS on how to be a morning person... but i'd bet it's in the morning... dang it.

Dnomyar -> RE: What do morning people do? (11/24/2008 6:11:14 AM)

Up at 4am every morning  to get to work during the weekdays. On the weekends when the weather is nice I go fishing till around noon. In the summer I am always outdoors taking a long walk thru the fields at sunrise. I am usualy not a night person unless it is to go night fishing or coon hunting with my friends.

wandersalone -> RE: What do morning people do? (11/24/2008 6:31:17 AM)

I am SO not a morning person however for work I get up at the very spritely (for me) time of 7am - I sometimes push it to 6.45 if I miss the train a few times in a row).  I have my routine all set...jump out of bed the second the alarm rings, race down hallway, mumble something unintelligible to flatmate as I go to the shower, breakfast while standing in the kitchen, get dressed in about ten minutes, pack my bag for work and out the door.  It takes me about heal an hour from waking up till I am out the door!!!!!!

I try to go to bed early however I often (like now) find I then am wide awake in the early hours

VirginPotty -> RE: What do morning people do? (11/24/2008 7:08:40 AM)

Hi Lin,
Like GT  said, go to bed around 9pm or even 10pm.
3 days a week I'm up at 4:15am to feed the cats/clean up their room & get ready to go to the gym.  By the time I get home, I have time for a quick snack & shower/change for work.

On the other 3 days I'll get up and make coffee & enjoy the peace & quiet after of course feeding the cats/cleaning their room.[:D]
On occassion I've done laundry but since I live in a condo bldg. & the laundry room is right next to another unit I try not to do that because it disturbs the tenants. Has to be a REAL necessity, otherwise I'll just wait until the evening.

**Eta, on the morings I workout I don't have time to make coffee when I get home so I purchased these http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/nolterpharma/javarush.html
They provide a very subtle awakening. No sudden bursts of energy & sudden crashes like sugar does. I highly recommend these if you have a hard time getting started in the mornings.

chiaroscuro -> RE: What do morning people do? (11/24/2008 7:30:07 AM)

I'm an up-at-7 type of morning person.  Anything before that, and I'm not happy. Despite that, until just a few months ago, I was getting on a train every weekday by 6am.  I don't understand the concept of having a leisurely morning (Watch tv before work? Never!), so I'll probably be no help.  My attitude has always been to get up, and get to work ASAP.  I'd rather get extra sleep than take my time in the morning.

My trick to getting out the door before 6 was to just do everything quickly.  Shower, dress and be out the door in less than half an hour.  The one unnecessary part of my routine was checking email at home, but I'd only scan the important ones, and save the rest for later.  I'd have clothes picked out the night before. Forget about drying my hair. I'd throw a hat on, and just fix my hair when I got to work.  Same with makeup.  I never had time to do it at home, so I'd put it on at work.  Breakfast and coffee also waited till I was seated at my desk.

It helps that I have a low-maintenance hair cut, and I'm pretty low-maintenance in general.  I'm also a terrible sleeper, and it's always been a stretch for me to sleep longer than six hours, so sleeping-in is a challenge for me.  Luckily, like LaT, I'm the type of person who is wide awake as soon as she's up, and don't need caffeine to get moving.

Good luck with the new routine.  I'm sure it'll take a few weeks to adjust, but once you get on schedule, hopefully it won't be too bad.

LeMis -> RE: What do morning people do? (11/24/2008 8:40:56 AM)

Hey Linea, I have always been a night owl but when my boss changed my hours to a split shift [&:] a couple of years ago I had to adjust.  Now I like it pretty much.  I open at 6am and close at 6pm, I go home at 9am and go back for 1pm, I can go to Dr appt's, hair appt's, nail/pedicure appt's, go shopping, take a nap, whatever...   [;)]

Mercnbeth -> RE: What do morning people do? (11/24/2008 9:01:00 AM)

beth, the rural 'farm girl' that she is along with her furry co-conspirators, have turned me into a 'morning person'*. I've come to appreciate sunrises as much as sunsets and, when they occur, full moon-sets over the ocean on a clear morning are just amazing.

What to do if there is no moon? Three words...Wake-up sex! ummmmmm

*(Except at the Green Door in Vegas where 'morning person' is defined by still playing in the dungeon at 3:30am!)

OMG, I think I love you!!  When I was on the road I found a product called STOK, which is like a shot of espresso in one of those little plastic creamer-type containers.  I ended up buying a case of them because I couldn't find them everywhere.  I refuse to drink bad coffee, so they're great for getting the caffeine when the good coffee wasn't available.  I'm Norwegian & my grandparents gave me coffee when I was little.  That was some serious coffee, too.  Boiled in a stockpot & kept simmering on the back of the stove all day.

LaTigresse -> RE: What do morning people do? (11/24/2008 9:06:11 AM)

I love full moon-sets! Although mine are over a sea of waving grasses instead of an ocean.

I am a weirdo fanatic for sunrises and sunsets. Hundreds of photos of both.

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: What do morning people do? (11/24/2008 9:10:43 AM)

I'm not a morning person, but the wake-up sex with one is mrewowrrrrrrr!  Nothing quite like the dreamy sensation of waking up to being used by a 'twue' morning person.  The only thing that might be close, is falling back asleep all sated and happy afterwards....I did mention I wasn't a morning person.

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: What do morning people do? (11/24/2008 9:19:41 AM)

I'm loving hearing from the twue morning people as to how you enjoy your time in the am**.  You are a complete mystery to me.  I learned years ago that every day I have a choice:  I can choose grumpy or I can choose cheerful.  When I have to get up early, I still choose cheerful & have fooled many a person into believing that morning is my time of day.

My experiment in mornings went terribly awry after one day, however.  I ended up staying up last night till well after midnight,. after getting up before 4am.  My mistake was in staying up past 8pm.  So I'm thinking that the trick is gonna be to get to bed before 8.  None of this late-night 9-10pm like you night-owls suggested.  *snort*
I just made a date for breakfast with a morning person for Wednesday.  This should help in my training.

**I especially like Merc's no-moon solution.  I live in grey Oregon, nowhere near a coast.  Unfortunately, in order for me to do that I'd have to go out & drag someone in off the street.  [8D]

How much sleep do you need, Lin??  Going to bed at 8pm seems a bit too early for me. I've gotten to the point I can go to bed at 11-11:30pm & still get up for my workouts. Not w/o some initial grumbling but it's doable.
