I'm allergic to horses, cattle, hay, dogs, cats, birds, and I keep an assortment of all of them. Zyrtec works great but makes me sleepy all day, so I gave it up. I've found loratidine works wonders, I take it every night. There is a spray you can spray the cat with - seriously - made by Allerpet I think, that helps a great deal, too. Ask your vet about it or see if you can order it online, it actually stops the dander from affecting the patient by sealing off the protein coats of the dander molecules. Better living through chemistry. Amazing stuff. If it's a child in the home having asthmatic or anaphylactic reactions I'd get rid of the cat. If you're dealing with mild symptoms try the desensitization shots and or the histamine blockers. Rhinocort will stop a lot of allergies from affecting one, too. My allergist tells me there's a new experimental injection that is targeted to reconfigure the genetic markers that cause allergies - one of these days we'll have a cure for that. Good luck, TexasMaam
