Hello ,

In reading the many posts on the forums i seem to get quite confused as to W/who is a Dominant and W/who is a submissive !

Please allow me to first say that i am not judging O/others on how T/they write .

While reading the posts i often see a submissive that signs their name with a capital letter as well as themselves as in ... I , Me My, etc..

Is protocol more laxed while writing on the forums ?

Should i not write W/we , U/us or O/our when speaking of my Mistress & i ?

Just checking  !

Advice greatly appreciated .

Thank You,

Respectfully
girl

Personally I dislike reading posts with T/they, W/we etc.  I am likely to ignore a post written that way as it's difficult to read. This subject has come up many times before and it seems the majority of people on the forums prefer regular wording.

I hate slashspeak.  I also cringe when I hear someone say the word "domme" as "domMAY".  eeeeeh!!  The interwebs do not always serve us well.

If you are not sure about someone's gender or orientation, you can always perv their profile.

I often capitalize He when I speak of my Master.  I feel no need to speak of myself in the lowercase.  It is a personal decision between the Dom/me and sub.  My Master is much more concerned with whether I am helping others than with how I capitalize.  For others it is a very formal ritual that they take comfort in.

Personally, I wish that there was some way to easily see if someone is a sub or Dom/me so that you can get a better idea of what perspective their opinion is coming from.  I often look at someone's profile before responding because of this.

I see it as a way of drawing undeserved attention and/or grandstanding.  It's tedious to do and boring to read.

Domme rhymes with Mommy.

It's like not knowing who's gay or straight...whatever happened to just asking them?

I often address doms who have e-mailed me with a capital "You" if I deem that they are worthy of being addressed in upper-case. :) But as a former English teacher, I can't *not* capitalize my "I's." I just can't do it. So, for me, standard English also (mostly) applies. I also don't like reading slash-speak and posts or e-mails in third person. Of course, if your domme requires it, then you must follow her rules. If she has no preference, I'd just use standard English.

As for telling who is sub vs. dom, sometimes you can tell by their names (such as mine), but otherwise, checking profiles is the only way to know for sure.

I personally don't use capitalization (or lack thereof) to signify my or someone else's sexual orientation.

Honestly? When I get "personals" emails from men where they capitalize personal pronouns that refer to themselves, I see it a great way to determine that he and I are seriously incompatible. If someone determines I am not the right person for him because I will capitalize personal pronouns that refer to me, then great! Everybody wins! I have never dated a man who wanted/expected this although I have friends who are subs who date doms who do expect this type of non-standard capitalization.

Don't get me wrong, if someone capitalizes (or doesn't), that is his/her business. It just shows they have a different opinion than I have about how I express submission or how I process expressions of dominance.

So, I (personally) don't consider the way I write in the forums to be more "lax" than any other written communication.

That said, I have to admit that I skip posts that have a lot of slashes; I'll eventually hide that poster altogether if they write a lot of posts that contain "slashey" speak! I find it too difficult to read.

Lots of people don't follow generic protocals someone else other than their Dominant dreampt up, myself included. If you want to know if they're a D or a S, or whatever read their profile.

As to the W/w thing, write however your Dominant indicates you should. Doing what you're told to do by the one you're in a relationship with is always the best policy. Not what other people outside your rleationship thinks you should do.

Standard English is standard for a reason.

That could easily be taken as an argument for non-use of standard English, MV.  After all, we're not 'standard people', are we?

I hate non-use of standard English as a general thing - for me, personally - and would only change it if explicitly told to by a given domina with whom I have some level of a relationship (including at the outset of such a relationship).  I don't really care what others want to do.  Up to them.

Yet, here's an odd thing.  Concomitant with that view: I don't want to write "I" with a lower case.  Yet, recently, I've found myself doing it over and over "by mistake".  Weird.  It's as though my unconscious is making itself felt.  A special, D/s, case of Freudian slip, maybe.

No, but we are often in situations (hopefully!) that require communication.  Communication is made easier IMHO by use of standard English (or standard whatever your native language is, which in my case is English - I can also get by in Spanish but if someone were to write in the equivalent of slashyspeak in Spanish I expect I'd become quite confused).  If someone writes something in slashyspeak, I'm likely to not even read it, because it gives me a headache, and I know from reading these boards I am not the only one..  So if your intent is to communicate something so that the widest amount of people will read, using slashyspeak is not a good way to accomplish that goal.

Of course if that is not the goal then that's a different kettle of fish...

Grrrr...I hate that third person crap. Slave thinks this...girl thinks that...boy did this...
I use captial letters and no slash speak. I'm more concerned telling people that I actually know how to write correctly than if I'm some dom or sub. Yes, lower case d for the word dom! Shocking! I also ignore all that Me My BS, just seems like unwarranted self importance.

But people can post whatever way they want, it just lowers your chance of it getting read the worse the English gets.

Oh we all read it... Just some of us are less likely to respect those who insist on murdering the English language.
