Well I hope we aren't two ships passing. I enjoy talking on the forums with you.

It was just a reference to this topic and the difficulty of finding a mutual understanding.  I enjoy the conversation as well.  :)

I don't think we are that far off John. I never said everything is possible, just more than most will admit to themselves.

Aha!!!   Houston, the Eagle has landed!!!  We have finally achieved agreement (I'll notify the press).  My only point was that "everything" is not possible.  And I'll gladly agree that most people are capable of more than they will admit to themselves.  That goes for submission as well as employment, sports, academia, etc.

No I couldn't change my sexuallity but that's one example and I'm sure there are a few others out there as well but I'm also sure that alot of what people see as "they can't", they really mean they won't or don't want to.

Well there ya go.  And while it's easier to say that when it affects you personally, give a little quarter to those who feel the same about a multitude of potential things that someone may want to "mold" them into.  Honestly, have you heard about some of the things people can think of in that regard????

I stated that a long time ago lol. No 'everything' isn't possible

There's a difference in what I'm genetically predisposed to and what I find respulsive based on a on my personal views.

Still trying to get the hang of this posting stuff. I can't seem to quote more than one box at a time.

I must be genetically predisposed to an aversion for asparagus, spinach and brussel sprouts.

OH MY GOD..   that makes three of us.

Maybe we should form a lifestyle.. have a special hand shake and sit around together ditching those asparagus, spinach and brussel sprout eating people.. We can call them greenies as we enjoy our green free lifestyle and look down upon all the greenies of the world

You'll have to count me among the "greenies".  I do love the green vegetables!

I was just served up a rather wonderful meal of salmon and parmesan covered brussel sprouts, oh yum.  And my god, who can do anything but lust for fresh asperagas?  Both are fun to grow, brussel sprouts grow on these huge thick stalks and are spectacular and there is something about severing the flesh of those first delicate shoots emerging from the dark winter soil that just makes devouring them seem almost wicked.

I did have to mold myself to like red peppers, still working on green ones though.

After that, do you need a tissue?  Cigarette perhaps?

For most of my life up till about 2 years ago, I was a steak, chicken and potato man(well that and spaghetti...My own recipe..spicy) . I've learned to like other things through trying something new.

Psssttt... not quite.  IIRC, scurvy results from vitamin C deficiency... *ahem!*... of which brussel sprouts trump oranges.

All true, but I hate the sprouts too John.  Asparagus?  That's another story.

I knew it was from vitamin C deficiency (hence the citrus fruit), but didn't know that brussel sprouts (or green vegetables in general) had meaningful quantities of vitamin C.  Thanks, I learned something today!!

No, but she would have wanted a cigarette but I have been molding her to stop and so far, so good.  I am quite proud of her as that is a horrible addiction.

I think the term "emotional kink" kind of sums it up. That's what it is. Some people get off on being spanked, whipped, chained up, suspended, choked, etc. Some people get off on being mentally and emotionally manipulated, molded, shaped, micromanaged etc. All it means is that people need to find the partner (Dom or sub) that matches their particular kinks and preferences. Same as in any type of relationship. I think the key is that we want to try and keep an open mind even if we don't understand it or it isn't our "kink." I always like these types of threads that question other's tastes so that we can learn what makes others tick.

I've always wondered, too, when I've read stuff that makes it sound like being with some dominant is roughly equivalent to going to a 4-year university, or something like that.
This thread has given me some insights into what that means to some people.
(Plus, some absolutely fascinating insights into people's complex relationships with brussels sprouts.)

Nueva Vida's experience was a good example of the former.

One minor thing I do wonder (and I may have missed it in the now many pages of this thread); Nueva Vida, did you seek to be "molded" or guided at the outset of the relationship, or did it just happen?

The reason I ask is that I wonder if there's ever any sort of irony possible in the "seeking to be molded" stance... because it seems to envision and idealize a certain type of relationship right away, which is in some respects the opposite of being open and flexible.

Probably just chasing my tail there, and I'm pretty much just tripping at this point, anyway, because it has been mostly outside of my realm of experience thus far.
~Just wondering, though.
