@PanthersMom It's been investigated, and yes, it exacerbates the problem (by a LOT)... however, I'm more likely to get an outbreak when I'm relaxed (believe it or not) than to have it start while stressed.

@Racquelle We've pinned the underlying cause as an auto-immune disorder of some type. Contrary to what you say, with *chronic* hives, there's often (as in, in 10% of the cases) no discernible cause beyond an auto-immune related illness. Unfortunately since there's nothing that can really be done about a mysterious auto-immune disease, and the only debilitating symptoms are these hives... we're focused less on the cause, and more on the symptom, trying to 'smoke out' the hives to make them no longer happen as a reaction to... well, anything. So I'm on high doses of four different types of anti-histamines, as well as daily steroids.

I can deal with just a bit of itchiness, even the pain that accompanies them sometimes, but it's when they cause my joints in my hands, knees, or feet to swell to the point that those appendages become unusable that's the problem (and what throws me out of comission, really).

Since lupus is definitely ruled out, how about rheumatoid arthritis? Swollen painful unstable joints suggest that or possibly scleraderma. Scleraderma is very rare and overlooked because of its rarity.

What kinds of fluids are you drinking if not plain water?  And what is the water source and purity?   The often recommended advice about drinking plenty of water is to help flush toxins out of the body.

Oooh, that's a good idea... I've been taking them with plain water (about the only time I drink plain water)!

I've been drinking pure distilled water with propel flavor packs, about 100oz a day (a little more, actually)

I don't know what Scleraderma is (quite honestly) and don't have the gumption to look it up right now (it IS 3:12am and I DO have an 8:30am class)... but I'll look into it.

Rheumatoid arthritis was ruled out by my GP a few years ago when I was trying to get to the bottom of the horrible pain I'm always in in my knees. I honestly can't remember why, atm..

I hope all people in this forum have found some improvement to their condition firstly. My best goes out to you. While I don't suffer here, I have done a lot of nutritional research and am a great proponent of and avid follower of the paleo diet (www.paleodiet.com; www.marksdailyapple.com), and it seems to have powerfully genetically beneficial effects in all kinds of unexpected ways. Perhaps could help here too? I wonder if anyone might do an experiment and see for themselves if it helps?

P.S. Angst, dearest OP, you should check your email inbox and write me back there - I have some very important things to discuss with you.

Best,
Sir K (thenaturalking)
