Thank you shinobi,

Girl will check that out.
Rubbing the rope against the cheek is really no way to test for comfort. *giggles*

Well it would be if the rope goes around your face, harhar! [:D]

Love your site Shinobi! Your work is beautifully done. Would love to correspond anytime. I have done some passible tortoise shells and really been more creative with rope than going for actual specific named poses. I have learned from many sources including the works of Midori and other simple books garnered mostly from the TwistedMonk site. I've never played with suspension first because i do not have a place i personally would find suitable, and because i do not have the training to feel comfortable doing so.

As for why? It's an art form. Asking why is akin to asking why paint, why sculpt, why compose. It's just another form of expression, and just as some "do not get" all art, some will not see the beauty in the symmetry and design aspects of Shibari.

My only complaint is that women are primarily used as rope models. I enjoy the challenges of a male body as well. Those delicious dangly parts are so fun to bind...but of course not for long periods of time! I am a safety first kinda gal as well.

Thank you for the compliment. Well the choice of having a male or female model is totaly personal since i'm basicaly straight i generaly tie up women. Especialy for my photo sessions, I just find the feminine physical form aestheticlay pleasing. Also because of my prefernce i find it easy to compose the female form.

But i do bind males every now and then. Especially for my Domina friends who study with me with their male "pets" as practice pieces (yes i understand what you mean about the dangly thingies [:D] )

Is it only men that practice the art of Shibari or can a mistress learn the art as well?

No, there are some wonderful women riggers.  Actually if you look at a lot of the work on sites like chantasbitches, jewellmarceau, boundorgasms, and smootheredslaves, the riggers there are mainly women

Mistress Midori out of SF is an excellent rigger.

At the local Mountain Co-op, they have various types of rope of varying degrees of elasticity. Some as much as 30%, which is good if you happen to be falling 30 feet off the side of cliff face. Just wondering, since they do use nylon with some of these climbing ropes. What is your opinion upon their use instead of using the static nylon ropes that you use?

For any bondage that will be encircling a limb or trunk I do NOT suggest any of the ones that stretch that much.  As the loops are pulled, etc they tighten down.  Also, remember the nylon ropes will not breathe like the natural fibers will.  I did a body corset for a girl at our group's fetish ball.  She had camo nylon rope.  It looked cool but she was very warm all night.  (she was hot, too, but that's a different topic).

I think if one was to scroll through my pictures i have a few of my rope work on my profile.

well hopefully girl will encounter the same rigger at the next dungeon, if he is even in the lower mainland area any more.
girl remembers my first experience at being suspended fondly. actually enjoyed and would like a repeat of the experience.

I count my self to be very fortunate to be in a group with a number of people that have an interest in rope work.  We often have workshops where we share and critique.  The 'demo models' are all usually in some level of subspace early on as the ropes start to wind.  There are two wonderful Female Dommes that come out to play there, too.

At the play party this past weekend I was a DM for a shift and I witnessed three rope scenes, One M/m, one M/f and one F/f.  They were all wonderful to watch.

hemp rope and dute rope are both natural products. They often need skimming and oiling but they have this wonderful smell, don't stretch and mark the skin perfectly

I agree. Rope can be a real art form. Every sculpter will find the right subject before he creates an image.

Here’s some work I’ve done with my Chinese Sub, Sammy

Ahh, a true Shibari artist’s dream to have, genuine hemp treated and prepared for the purpose of Shibari alone. Unfortunately this material is also not available here.

A good friend of mine who is a member of Citadel and the Society of Janus visited Manila and he brought me a length of hemp… well it’s still in the closet till now! The rope is so rare here that I can’t bear to even unwrap it till I find the perfect scenario to use it.

But I am planning a photo shoot using the material. I’ll post the images here when I’m done with them.

Esinem -> RE: Shibari - The Way of The Rope (12/19/2008 6:38:44 PM)

5mm-6mm 3-ply twisted jute, approx 7m long, is my weapon of choice. IMHO, shinobi73's pics would look even more lovely with jute or, if you must, hemp but, then, I'm a bit geeky about it. Take a look at my stuff and see what you think: http://www.esinem.com

That is so true and I am preparing for such a photo shoot in the future… thanks for the compliment[;)]
