I LOVE Christmas!!  I decided decades ago that I would always have a wonderful Christmas, no matter what!  I don't stress about it.  I don't get upset with other people during this time of year, no matter if they get upset with me.  I just smile & wish them a Merry Christmas.  I call it Christmas because that's what I've always called it.  I don't celebrate it as a Christian event.

My Uncle Sandy has played Santa Claus for 55 years, so I believe in Santa.  I usually decorate the tree with lots of different things, some traditionally Norske.  I set out cookies & milk for the Yulenissen.  I have spider ornaments for my tree & Norwegian flags to drape on it.

Some years I go caroling to see the smiles it puts on people's faces.  I sing really badly, but nobody seems to care.  Some years I have served meals to homeless folks.  Every year I find some way to give to needy families.  When I was on the road, there would be truckstops taking in donations for local families.  Now that I'm off the road, I went back to taking names off the giving tree in the mall.  My family & friends know that I won't be getting them anything because they already have too much as it is.  But I think of them when I buy gifts for less fortunate people.

This year, we're definitely having a white Christmas.  There's probably close to a foot of snow outside right now & unless it warms up to 65 in the next day or 2 it'll still be there for Christmas.  I had ordered a turkey & planned to do a big traditional meal for my single neighbors, but I can't get to the store to pick it up.  So we will have Rayleen's broccoli dish that she makes every year, some stuffing that I already bought the bread for, and probably a huge egg dish.  Not what I usually have, not what I had planned to have, but it's gonna be great anyway!!!

Merry Christmas, everybody!!

I have never been a fan of holiday especially Christmas, while it does bring out some good in people, it also brings out the stupid in people, the whole commercialism is a crock.  Case in point the death of the Walmart employee.

I do send the grandums presents but thats about it.

I would rather chance upon someone that just needs a little random act of kindness, to pull them through a situation than go broke celebrating a commercial enterprise.

In fact I asked my sister today when xmas was and she said Thur and I was shocked it was so close, shows how I keep up with it.
Her and I are going to go eat Chinese food on xmas day as apparently its something new yorkers do.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/lifestyle/holidays/december_2008/64_celebrate_christmas_as_a_religious_holiday

"While the message sometimes gets lost in all the commercialization, 64% of Americans say they will celebrate Christmas this Thursday as a religious holiday honoring the birth of Jesus Christ. Another 27% celebrate the holiday in a more secular manner, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. Six percent (6%) don’t celebrate Christmas at all and 3% are not sure how to answer."

only 37% of the persons polled here on CM celebrates Christmas as the birthday of Jesus, a large percentage 42% celebrate Christmas in a secular fashion, 15% do not celebrate the holiday at all, 2% celebrates Hanukah only, and 2% celebrates both Christmas and Hanukah.

somewhat different huh?

Look, since the only time the shepherds are in the fields with their flocks is in the freaking spring when the ewes are ready to deliver the kids.

Otherwise, they are fat dumb and happy in their nice little stables while the shepherd is at home banging his wife OR at the local brothel breaking a few commandments.

When they get the day right, then we can talk.

There are 12 months/ 12 disciples/12 tribes of Israel / Jesus' birth celebrated in the 12th month that is enough for me.

there are many holidays religious or not that the dates are celebrated on approximate or recognized dates.   Christmas is the season of Life, Hope and Sharing!  i had a wonderful Christmas and i hope you did too!

Actually many of the Christian holidays were around, in a similar form, pre-dating Jesus, as Pagan holidays.

yes we know and those holidays had a beginning, just like Christian holidays.  it is human nature to question everything.  i question the pagan and their beliefs.  it is my right, just as it is yours or anyone elses to question the Christian.  what happen to tolerance?

peace

I'm not intolerant.  I think it is wise to understand exactly what it is you are celebrating and how it all started.  By recognizing other belief systems, I show that I am tolerant and respectful.

Originally, the day 'we' celebrate Christmas on was actually a feast day for Mithra, Roman god of the Sun, NOT THE BIRTH OF CHRIST!

The 12 month calendar has nothing to do with Christianity, BUT everything to do with the Roman Empire who developed the damn thing to fix problems in the GREEK calender that had 13 months, plus one week.

Now, ORIGINALLY, most christian sects celebrated the birth of Christ either in late March, April or May, until this dude named Emperor Constantine  first saw a vision and had his troops paint crosses on their shields to win a battle.

He then decided that ALL religions would have the same feast days.... So, at the council of Nicea while Roman Imperial Guards made sure no one left, the representatives present came up with the Nicean Creed, and declared that everyone was wrong about the day of Christ's birth was wrong, Constantine was right, (helps to persuade a bunch of bishops when they had been told do it this way or die and the Emperor would find a bunch that would agree with him.)

Then and ONLY then did Constantine convert to the Christian faith, after which his mother went to the Holy Land from Constanopol and got suckered into buying every real or fake relic ranging from peices of the true cross to the property where the tomb was, including items owned by the apostles, etc.....
