Okay, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this....

I've been thinking for some time about getting my nipples pierced. I've researched it some online and looked at different types of jewelry and all that. I have two questions...

Number One--If you have had it done (or know someone who has), can you give me some advice on how to go about finding a qualified person to do the piercing, as well as how painful it is, aftercare, problems you experienced, sensitivity changes, that kind of thing?

Number Two--Do you find nipple piercings attractive? If not, do they bother you enough that you wouldn't consider playing with someone who has theirs pierced?

I'm asking because while I'd like to get this done for my own enjoyment, several of my male friends have mentioned that nipple piercings are a huge turn-off for them. Obviously I wouldn't want to do something that would then result in unintentional chastity...

Thanks in advance for all responses!

I love mine. The pain is excruciating but only stays at that intensity for a second. They will be quite sore for awhile when they are done. Healing takes a LONG time....up to a year. You can't play with them until they are healed. Proper care after piercing is extremely important.

i loved mine. The pain of the piercing itself was over in a fraction of a second. The first to weeks after that - yeouw. Like mis said, it takes up to a year to heal. My body happened to decide it didn't like them about 15 months after i pierced them and i had to take them out. Have considered re-piercing them, but have pretty much decided i like cloverclamps too much to go thru the aggravation of healing them.
As far as finding a qualified piercer: ask around, look in the phone book and then go and interview. Ask to see pics of the work. Look around the shop and decide if you're comfortable with the cleanliness and attitude.

Good luck!

i'm on round two of getting my nipples pierced.  the first time i went from barbells to rings and the rings were too small, and the rings migrated and had to be removed...the second time i got them done (in march) i got rings *again* and again, one migrated.

i had the remaining ring switched to a barbell and its doing well now.  probably next month i'll get the other one re-done.

my piercer recommended barbells for women, mostly because if a woman wears bras the rings can get uncomfortable and the constant pressure doesnt allow for easy healing.  from personal experience, i'll say i like the barbells better as far as the healing process is going.

i *like* the sensations.  i havent lost any sensitivity at all, even in the side that's been pierced twice now and doesnt currently have a ring in.  but that's *my* experience.

Thank you all for your replies. I have a question, which I hope won't sound silly.

Nipple rings are changeable, right? I mean, I've heard of people taking them out to breastfeed then putting them back in, so I'm assuming I would be able to change out the rings when I want. I was planning on going with barbells, though I would like to get some nice rings with a chain connecting them that I can hang some small weights from....

Number One--If you have had it done (or know someone who has), can you give me some advice on how to go about finding a qualified person to do the piercing, as well as how painful it is, aftercare, problems you experienced, sensitivity changes, that kind of thing?

www.safepiercing.org
That's the website of the Association of Professional Piercers. They have a search function where you can find a shop affiliated with the APP in your state.

As for pain, it was a quick pinch. I had trouble walking for an hour or so afterward, because every jiggle hurt. 4 hours later, I was dancing at a punk show.
Aftercare- sea salt soaks. 4tsp sea salt (not iodized) + 1 gallon distilled water. Put a little in a shot glass, microwave 10 seconds, place shot glass opening on nipples and lay down to create a vacuum so the water won't spill everywhere. Stay like that 5-10 min. Don't rotate the jewelry, don't change the jewelry for a few months, don't let saliva touch it. Only touch it with clean hands. Latex gloves may be a good idea if your partner (or you) just can't keep hands off.
Problems I had- Rejection. My nipples were inverted/flat, so they ended up being pierced too shallow and one eventually rejected. Keeping an eye on the other one. On the bright side, the piercings have seemed to have trained my nipples to stick out more often and more erect, so placement next time should be much easier. If you have inverted or flat nipples, I suggest trying to get pierced with PTFE (Teflon), as it is flexible and will be much less likely to put the pressure on the fistula. That pressure is what causes rejection.
Sensitivity- much more sensitive now, even after taking out the one that rejected.

Number Two--Do you find nipple piercings attractive? If not, do they bother you enough that you wouldn't consider playing with someone who has theirs pierced?

I love them, but I guess it would vary boob-to-boob

That was an excellent recommendation from RiotDoll regarding how to find a reputable piercer.  i would make another recommendation.  Before you have the piercings done, visit the shop you have chosen and question the piercer(s) about their technique and their facilities (i.e., do they have autoclaves).

For aftercare, you should have a gentle antibacterial soap -- e.g., a product called Satin.  Sea salt solution is also recommended to be alternated with the liquid soap.  Again, pay attention to some of the other recommendations from RiotDoll.

If you intend at some point to remove your piercings, you should have available insertion tapers to re-install the jewelry.  i can recommend a vendor that is very good -- www.steelnavel.com.  i have purchased items from them online.  They have quality merchandise and are very responsive.

Good luck.

I have mine pierced (and I've got such cute little flower danglies on the bars ) but I can't really give good feedback on the pain. Due to a surgery, I have lost feeling in one and have only faint feeling in the other. For one, I felt nothing at all and for the other misery as she pushed through scar tissue.

Aftercare is pretty standard, wash it regularly, don't pick at it, don't touch it unless you've washed hands, etc. The downside is that nipple piercings take longer to heal and (for me anyway) get caught on things somethings and pull a bit so that I need to treat them as fresh piercings to avoid an infection. As for finding a qualified person, ask around if you have friend with tattoos or piercings. A good piercer, in my humble opinion, is worth their weight in gold and word spreads.

I think they are hot but I also love the look of a girl decorated in metal. You have to be a bit more careful with them as you don't want to accidently pull the piercing out but they provoke a definate happy response for me.

Nipple piercings do have a tendency to migrate over time but this also depends on your skin texture. Remember that the thicker the piercing, the less likely it is to migrate.

Nipple rings can be changed. the best way to do this (after they have healed) is in the bath with lots of hibi scrub soap and warm water. Don't just remove the piercing and expect you can put a bar straight through, though some people can. A nipple piercing is not straight, its random and so never as easy to re-fit a piece of jewelry as it would be in say the ear, which is a straight piercing. Let the new bar that your putting in follow the old one on its way out.

The first few weeks of a nipple piercing can be a pain and you may even be tempted to remove it but remember the pain you went through to have it done and keep in mind that if you decide in the future to have it re-pierced it will be more painful because of the scar tissue. The discomfort soon goes and your left with a beautiful piece of body jewelry.

i have had my piercing for just a year now and to tell the truth it was a piece of cake. hurt for about as long as it took to put it in. i did no special care to it at all just regular shower gel to clean it. didnt touch it much at all. wore my bra as usual. its never been infected nor painful since its been done. it was a gift and i will cherish always.

I've had my nipples pierced (it was extremely painful...more so during the healing process than the actual piercing process), unfortunately, I have extremely small nipples and I didn't go to a very good piercer, and so about 5 months later, my piercings looked like hell and were already starting to grow out...so, I took them out.

The plus side: I had almost no sensation in my nipples before I got them pierced...now, I have really good sensation in them!
Negative side: my nipples are scarred from the piercings, but most people don't know that unless I tell them.

Research your local tattoo and piercing shops, talk to their clients, and see what people have to say about them. Take a tour of the place, inspect their equipment, and watch them do a few piercings (if that's an option). Also, if you want your nipples pierced because it's attractive to you, then that's all that matters, and I say go for it. If you're doing it however because you know a few guys who think it's hot, and you're doing it with the hope that it'll earn you more attention, pass. I know a lot more guys who like 'steel/ink' free girls, than I do guys who enjoy that thing. Piercings and tattoos are no longer the taboo that they once were, nor are they as unique as they used to be. It's now extremely difficult to find someone without a piercing or tattoo...so in truth, if you're going for originality, remaining metal free is actually more 'shocking'.

Thank you all!

Porcelain, I appreciate your advice. I am wanting to do this for myself, but have had several friends mention how gross they find it. I guess my question was just intended to make sure that someone other than myself finds them attractive, since I definitely don't want to give up my sex life for a piercing!

SteveandJaz, you said the thicker the piercing the less likely it is to migrate...I'm assuming thicker piercings will also hurt much more. What kind of jewelry selection is there for the thicker piercings? I looked at several websites, which said nipple piercings can be 16, 14 or 12 gauge, but almost all of their jewelry was for 16 and 14. If I went with a 12 would I be limited on the kind of jewelry I can find? Is 14 big enough to prevent migration?

It will depend on your nipples, but 14 is the most common gauge for female nipple piercings. Male nipple piercings are done at 16g more often than female ones because males don't have the amount of breast tissue that we have exerting pressure on the piercing.
When looking at jewelry, are you looking at adornments other than the standard straight or curved barbells? Nipple shields generally have a little bit of room, so it may be possible to fit a 12g bar into a shield made for 14g. Your best bet with shields or other adornments for the piercing would be to go to a shop that has them, and ask if they can see if a 12g bar will fit.

It's really easy to find 12g straight, curved, and circular barbells.

As far as pain, it shouldn't hurt more. The needles make a crescent shaped slit; they don't take out flesh.

Kind of off topic since it isn't about a woman's piercing, but just had to chime in and say that I love, love, love daddy's. When I get to suck and bite on his nipple I love the feeling of flicking the ring up and down with it hitting the back of my front teeth (with a clinking noise every time). He seems to really like it too!

Mostly I've been looking at the pretty dangly ones  I plan to have straight barbells to begin with, but would love to have some cute shields or curved bars with danglies on either end, and will definitely be getting a set of rings with a chain connecting them, just for fun

I've had a question for a while about nipple piercings, so I'll stick it on the end of this thread rather than post on my own.

The only people I've know with nipple piercings have been small breasted to the point that they always, always wore a padded bra. I literally never wear padded bras: they don't make many in my size, and at this point, it just seems silly.

Won't the nipple jewelry show through a regular bra and a typical shirt? My regular non-adorned nipples show through more often than I'd like, I'm worried that a ring would be a clear, obviously identifiable circle showing through any top. Does anyone have experience with this? Are nipple piercees doomed to wear miracle-bras or display their wares?

Erm, and to the OP: yep, they look hot, most of the time. Even pretty frightening breasts look better with nipple piercings. Just don't go looking for photos of what could go wrong....

ExCat, I'm a D myself, so I never wear a padded bra. Of course, I also don't really care if anyone can see the rings or not...  I would think the barbells wouldn't show near as much as a ring, so you could always just keep the rings for when you're with your friends. If you're really worried they might show you can get some nursing pads. They don't show too terribly badly, and they'd put some extra padding between your shirt and the rings.
