Are you sure about that?  I'm aware of countries, such as England and Wales[1], where early marriage is dependent on parental consent (one can get married at16 with parental consent and at 18 with or without) but not where this happens for sexual consent.

[1] The law in the UK is complicated.  England and Wales have one set of laws, Scotland another and Northern Ireland yet a third.  They agree on most things but there are enough significant differences that it's best to be precise.  It used to be the case that a 16yo could marry in Scotland without parental consent, which meant that a lot of English teenagers got married in Gretna, a small town just over the border; I don't think that's the case any more.  Yes, my footnote is longer than the post itself.  Sue me.

Hmm.  Not sure about that.  Wikipedia has different ages to the ones I posted in some cases but still gives the age of consent in both MD and DC as being sixteen, with an exception for couples whose ages differ by at most four years in DC.[1]  It also says that the age of consent in Canada is sixteen and that this does not vary between provinces.[2]  (Fourteen-year-olds may have sex with people not more than five years older or to whom they are married; fourteen year old girls can marry in Quebec.)

Yes, I forgot to mention that many states have a higher minimum age for prostitution than for, er, recreational sex.
