I am a reader of Crowley’s works and as such I agree with you on Crowley’s failings. I have worked most of his rites and ceremonies over many decades after making some necessary corrections which are included In what was once my BoS, now renamed The Codices ex Venificia along with the Alexandrian writings from my time of being HP and co-founder of Wicca in Perth Western Australia. One of his, Crowley’s, writings, namely The Hymn To Pan, I have used often when I have performed the Rites of Pan along similar lines as described by Dion Fortune with some success especially when it was first done decades ago in accompaniment of four Covens in Perth.

Regarding mixing Paganism with BDSM, I only suggest that there are times when someone needs to be bound and what better than a good shibari or similar rope tie or even a hog tie. I do know rituals where the ideal form of bondage is the “spider web” shibari tike over an altar. Mind you this is simply taking some techniques of BDSM and applying them in an appropriate place. Paganism and in particular, Alexandrian Craft also uses in later degrees, the use of Warriking or Breath Control which is one of the BFDSM areas as you know of course.

And to an extent BDSM does have ancient and mystocal roots as it were.Look at the rites of the Bacchanalia.. Bacchus and his Slave women who followed him after the orgy and at sunrise would eat or devour all males present. Another rite practiced by a Coven of NROOGD in California practiced whats called the Rite of the Heirodule. Also As i mentioned Don Webbs Treatise from the Sex Magick Primer. As far as neo modern interpretations or modern styles of BDSM.. maybe not.. But certainly YES to more primal forms

I have always been Wiccan, and for me, there is no aspect of my life that does not incorporate the Lord and the Lady in some way or another.  With my vanilla partner, sex magic is a routine part of our sexual experience, that heightening of awareness and worship of each other and the divine spark in both of us.  For us, there is no higher connection, and thus, no better method for performing our rituals, than during sex.
From a BDSM standpoint, my new dominant girlfriend (she is still new to the lifestyle, and HATES the word domme/mistress, etc), we also incorporate our play into ritual setting.  The administration and receiving of pain heightens the senses, perfect for within a sacred circle.  We each play our role for each other, opposite but necessary sides of the same circle.  At times, it can be an intensely spiritual thing.
Blessed be, and best of luck!

Greetings.

I am not a pagan... at least, I'm not a Deist, but most people who feel the need to cram others into boxes prefer to stick my strange concepts of spirituality into the 'pagan' box -- whether the pagans in the box agree or not that that is where I belong has been a bone of contention for some time. *chuckles* That being said, the energy and communion of sex and both self-inflicted and other-inflicted pain and acts of dominance and submission are powerful energetic forces, irregardless of deification of the process or lack of deification, and so, in that sense, I definitely explore BDSM and associated things like body modification for their energetic potential and their potential to effect change and introduce ecstasy and chaos into the universal energetic pool.

Feel free to mail me on the other side if you'd like to converse more on the subject.

Dame Calla
