SavageFaerie -> RE: Had to euthanize my cat today... (1/7/2009 6:01:13 AM)

I so very sorry for your loss.

I can totally understand the having to play the god thing. Just when is the right time.

My sister and I had to do the same thing last Fri. he was 16 and his health hasnt be good for a year now, tho up until the last month or so you would never know he was. He would have down days and always had the thought there if it was time,  then he would up and surprise us.

He waited till the new year.

I so feel your pain as I'm still raw from the thought of it. I do know that he never has to have a down day again.

And the rainbow bridge does give me comfort.

Lots of hugs.

That is so true. You took him and erased all those horrible memories he had and gave him a brand new shiny warm and beautiful life. Such a wonderful thing to do, you made a huge difference in his world.[:)] I have 3 furbabys right now, all assorted ages, and it does hurt so so much when they leave, but take comfort when you can in knowing you did the right thing and remeber how much he loved you for that.

Bless your heart.  You took him in and gave him loved, and allowed him to pass on peacefully, with his final year very likely his best. I've only had my little guy for 6 months and he's the love of my life.  I can only imagine how you feel.   Big hugs to you.

Irishknight -> RE: Had to euthanize my cat today... (1/7/2009 8:40:12 AM)

My heart goes out to you.  I had to do the same with a dog only a few weeks ago.  She had been a member of our family for over four years and she was our big baby (105lbs).

Bless you for the love you showed to this baby throughout his life.  So many animals never get to know love.

PanthersMom -> RE: Had to euthanize my cat today... (1/7/2009 12:45:15 PM)

so sorry for your loss! it always hurts so bad, but the memories and the love make it all worthwhile.  i have a friend who fosters terminally ill cats for her local shelter.  even though it hurts like hell to lose one, the rewards are the memories of a well fed, well loved and happy animal for however long they have left.

bamabbwsub,

I'm very sorry to hear that. It is indeed a difficult time, even when you know it's what needs to be.

Irishknight,

Same to you. I've been in both your shoes, and it sucks.

I've found that the only way out to be getting another kitten or puppy, as plenty of these need homes, and it's hard to be sad when a kitten/puppy is being its cute but insane self.

When you're ready, and find the right one.

Best,

Tim

Bama,
Condolences.  And like others have said, finding another furkid that needs a loving home can help.  I hope you will look at shelters when you are ready.  As an adult, my furkids have all been strays or from shelters.  More recently strays, as there are no shelters within 90 miles.

I rarely, if ever, offer anything here in the forums, but after seeing your thread in the main site I thought I'd drop by and offer my sincerest apologies.
Just this past Monday had a dash to the vet with my own fuzzy master because he coundn't pee, thankfully it wasn't as bad as it could have been and we were sent home with antibiotics.
The last cat I had to put down was a six month old stray that the neighbour's dog mauled. The mad dash to only vet open on a Sunday, but there was no way I could have saved him. Poor lil' mite, I was a mess over him for weeks and he wasn't even mine, I dread to think what I'll be like when my *master* gets old and it's his time to go.

As short a time you had with your Sebastian,  he has left his lil' furry footprints on your heart and I'm sure that he thanks you for the decision you made, no matter how hard it was for you to make, bamabbwsub. You did the right thing, you stopped him hurting, and gave him a warm, happy, loving home in the last year of his life. You are better for having done what you did than making him suffer because you couldn't bare to loose him. It's one of the hardest decision in the world to make when you have a pet. It's never easy, but as others have said, the happy memories that remain are worth all the tears and pain.

My condolences also to SavageFaerie and Irishknight for their own losses.

Warm wishes from me, and head butts from my lil' man.

BlackPhx -> RE: Had to euthanize my cat today... (1/7/2009 2:30:45 PM)

My condolences to you and I hope you can take some comfort knowing he KNEW he was loved until the very last and will be waiting for you with a purr and eager bumps.

Our condolences and best wishes as well.

bamabbwsub -> RE: Had to euthanize my cat today... (1/7/2009 6:47:44 PM)

I want to thank all of you who posted here and offered me condolences for Sebastian.  I do know that I did the right thing for him -- both in taking him in when no one else would, and in letting him go when I really wanted to keep him with me.  I also want to offer my condolences to those of you who have lost your own furbabies, and hope that you have been given the same sympathy and support that I found here.

Some people may read this thread and roll their eyes, thinking, "Gee, it was just a cat," but for those of us who have been privileged enough to have loved and been loved by a wonderful pet, we know that that kind of love is very unique and special.  I actually feel sorry for people who will never understand the bond that can be felt between human and animal.

In the midst of my tears, however, I had to laugh as I was reading the well-meaning and excellent advice suggesting that I eventually get a new pet...because I currently have 10 cats and 3 dogs living with me!!  (I do animal rescue work.)  I wasn't laughing at the advice, but it was pretty funny as I looked around my den at the 8 cats currently parked on my couches, rugs, and dog beds.  [:D]  And even last night when I was at my lowest, my younger kitties were able to make me laugh out loud as they chased each other and frolicked around the house.  Gotta love 'em!

Again, thanks to everyone who responded to this thread.  I appreciate the kind words and support more than any of you may know.

Do you kmow where the family moved too? If not, you can send them a letter to the old address telling them you are getting some of their mail and don't know where to forward it. Take it from there. Don't feel the least bit of guilt about punishing them. You are an Agent of Karma. Fuck 'em.  More worthless scumbag pieces of shit need to be punished.

Unfortunately, I don't know where the family moved.  The neighbors called a rescue group when they realized that the people had moved out and left their cat to fend for himself.  The night I got the call, it was 16 degrees outside.  I was furious!

I wouldn't feel any guilt towards whatever punishment God, Karma, Fate, or whoever hands out ass-kickings would give them.  I also feel that people like that will eventually reap what they sow.

I appreciate your blood lust on my (and Sebastian's) behalf, though.  [:)]

I just told you one way to try and find them.

Me, I think anyone who abuses or abandons an animal is lower than snake shit. I have a little Shih-Tzu that a friend dropped off about 4 months ago (she found him wandering around in a ditch near Northpoint Mall near Alpharetta, here in Atlanta. He belonged to a woman who died before she found him. Evidently a neighbor, or daughter (don't know the whole story) was keeping him, and he got out. He was found by someone else, but she didn't want him because she claimed he snarled at her (good for him. She was probably a worthless fucking cunt). The daughter/neighbor didn't want him. Pam gave them my number, and they were wanting to come visit him a couple days after I got him (granddaughter or whatever early teens girl was attached apparently) I said, sure, but they never showed up. Now I wouldn't let them on my property. They showed me by actions what kind of worthless pieces of shit they are. Fuck them. They can die.

As can anyone who abuses/abandons a poor defenseless pet.

I try not to think about what the people I encounter every day are like. They do this shit to animals. They abuse spouses and kids. They steal. They cheat. They are scum. Prostitutes and junkies are morally superior to most "upstanding citizens".

Just the thought of someone abandoning an old cat to die in the cold makes my blood boil. You know how to find them. Take action.

SavageFaerie -> RE: Had to euthanize my cat today... (1/8/2009 3:36:09 PM)

It totally amazes me that the people here are such animal lovers.

If I had my own place I wouldnt think twice about doing rescue.

The feline hospital we use offers medical cat sitting, I would love to do that.

amaidiamond -> RE: Had to euthanize my cat today... (1/8/2009 3:40:59 PM)

I'm so sorry for your loss - I love my animals and hate having to make that choice, it sounds like you are an amazing cat mum

tornaway -> RE: Had to euthanize my cat today... (1/8/2009 3:55:58 PM)

I've had cats most of my life , and I wouldn't have it any other way !    As I write - one of my girls is on my lap "helping" .

I've also said goodbye to many .  It's never easy - no matter how many times one does it .    But I see it as the last opportunity to show our love for them , that we can ease them out gently without forcing them to live to the last ( often painful )  moments .

I wish humans had the same option legally available everywhere !

Cyber hugs to you - and good memories .  You gave that 'ole guy  a loving send-off !

Firebirdseeking -> RE: Had to euthanize my cat today... (1/13/2009 9:57:39 PM)

My community built a new shelter a couple of years ago, and I "bought" a brick outside, that could be inscribed with a pet's name, or  meaningful words and thoughts.  I pondered all the wonderful cats I have shared my life with; it didnt seem right to settle on one name.

My brick reads "God's angels on earth".  That is how I think of the critters.  As angels,  giving us that unconditional love that is perfect.

May another wonder ful cat find his or her way into your life, bamabbwsub.
