This is really not a bdsm related health/safety question but I have always been one to bend the rules. Today I went to the gym and decided to get a little 15 min chair massage before working out. There is a chiropractic office that sets up sometimes and does them there. I am a massage-slut and I take it where I can get it. Anyway, the girl and I were chatting as she rubbed and she commented several times I was really tight, etc. She was rubbing up by a shoulder blade and I suddenly got very light headed. I waited for it to pass, but then informed her I was a little light headed and she stopped. She said that happens sometimes and it has to do with lactic acid that is built up being released into the body. As she was explaining this I passed out cold. It just came crashing in on me. I came to a few minutes later, drenched in sweat, very disoriented and hearing people talk to me. I couldn't quite answer for another minute or so. I drank some water, rested a bit longer and eventually sat up slowly....only to black out again. Whoa. I have been yucky and headache-y all day. The therapist reassured me lightheadedness and even fainting it is not unusual with accupressure and although she was not using accupressure techniques at the time, a rubbing massage can trigger a similar reaction. I am still just a little bothered though as I frequently get massages (professional and otherwise) and never had that type of reaction. Now I am also a little distressed about my favorite relaxing activity being tainted - life is so cruel! Anyone else ever had a similar reaction during a normal, simple massage? I googled it but did not come up with much except a summary of a session presented on it at some massage therapist convention.
