is anyone remotely concerned that a...civilian national security force (that is as well funded as it can be) would be allowed to act in a manner that is not limited by posse comitatus?

This came up during the primary campaign.  It's a dangerous excercise that should be stopped before it even gets started.  We don't need a strongly funded civilian security force to compliement the armed forces...we already have that in the "National Guard"....controlled by every State Governor and subject to being federalized by the Pentagon, but owing no allegience to one man
Since Obama's election I have not heard anything further about this private militia being formed. Would watch to see if General Powell gets tapped to run something like this...would give it the necessary ligitimacy to get it by stringent public scrutiny.

well i did see a info-commercial today from the CIA stating, "We are looking for a few good men and women"

i wonder[8D]

The CIA could use a hell of a lot more civilians instead of using so many contractors.

The commentary I've seen on the web takes the most far-out cases and treating them as high probability.

MichiganHeadmast -> RE: Concerns about Obama's Civilian National Security Force. (1/12/2009 8:24:20 PM)

We don't need one.  We have one.  It's called a militia consisting of every able bodied male.  We don't need a bunch of brownshirts out there playing "national security."

..well  it is a non-issue.

we are BROKE.  we have NO MONEY.

pahunkboy -> RE: Concerns about Obama's Civilian National Security Force. (1/13/2009 7:24:15 AM)

BTW- an unfed, hungry army will only be a certain amount "loyal"  to the general.   as they see that they are a peon as well, and being stepped on, the range will be not give a crap to all out sabotage.

on the flip side massive chaos will mean that LEO a portion  could go to the other side.   as you know this never EVER happens /gag

servantforuse -> RE: Concerns about Obama's Civilian National Security Force. (1/13/2009 9:55:13 AM)

The FBI is replacing those ready to retire. Agents and some others in the Bureau have set rules for mandatory retirement. They are planning ahead as it takes years to train agents and other skilled positions. This ain't working on an assembly line..

Dnomyar -> RE: Concerns about Obama's Civilian National Security Force. (1/13/2009 10:54:57 AM)

Whats the big deal about arming people. Look at the number of  hunters in each state.

bestbabync -> RE: Concerns about Obama's Civilian National Security Force. (1/13/2009 10:56:06 AM)

i think it may be part of PEObama's promise of 2 1/2 million, oops 3 million...oops again, i mean 4 million new jobs!  oh and it does not matter about how broke we are...just print more money.....LOL!  remember his speech monday....his package will cost 2 trillion dollars in the first 2 years.  deficit deficit deficit!!!!...LOL![:D]

bestbabync -> RE: Concerns about Obama's Civilian National Security Force. (1/13/2009 10:59:33 AM)

[:D]this is more than arming!  this is trained LE!  it does not take too long to train already sworn and certified LEO...so do not be fooled.  this force can be put together pretty damn quick!

oh and the assembly line remark...LOL!  in another thread it was stated that being in LE is not all that difficult and that any dumbass can do the job.

first of all WHY?

They were supposed to pick up domestic intell duties after 9/11 (which led to far fewer of their organized crime, etc. prosecutions.)  So yeah, they could use more.  If they are anything like other government agencies, there's gonna be a slew of retirements soon.

Was it popeye commenting on how easy it is to be a LEO?

The Washington Times is fishwrap (all the reputable staff left by the time it was 2 years old).  Now, tell me how the "digital brownshirts" are any different than right-wing bloggers who find something offensive about liberals (Obama included) and proceed to wind up the rest of the blogosphere, which winds up Limbaugh et al, and then winds up Fox (at least ), and/or CNN, MSNBC, etc.  Condidering what happened to Kerry, I'm not surprised at all that they've got a quick reaction team running.

BTW, gotta love the title of the second article:
Barack Obama brownshirts intimidating freedom of speech ( Obama the terrorist goes to far in his war on the american people )Yep, he's a terrorist all right...just look at his middle name!
