And yet, despite the fact that crime is Up - anti-gun proponents will still swear that if yet more bans were put in place, it would "work" somehow.  When are they going to realize - the bans, laws, etc ad nauseum only work when you've already got a Completely Crime Free society?  The criminals that the anti-gun lobbies both in the states and appearantly in Brittian from the look of this piece are trying to "control" - they don't respect the law, they aren't going to pay attention to the law, they already don't pay attention to the Existing laws.  Putting another on the books is simply more hot air that will cause the law abiding grief and strip them of rights - while the criminals sit back and smile knowing their job just got that much easier.

Poor little foxes.

gman992 -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/22/2009 1:12:06 AM)

Weird isn't it? They ban guns...and then people start killing each other with knives. Why don't we ban people who kill instead of knives and guns...just a suggestion. But, that's what you get when you turn your power over to someone else.

There was a case here where a couple were playing and the guy duct taped his wife why playing and she died of axpication. So how about banning duct tape.

Ok, I'll bite. What the hell is axpication?

[sm=rofl.gif]I'm not sure when this was filmed, but I'm pretty sure it depicts a march by the Countryside Alliance, a right-wing 'movement' that erupted in the late nineties as a reaction against New Labour. The demonstration isn't for the benefit of 'wanting their guns back': it's a pro fox-hunting demo. These people would not argue in favour of gun rights in the sense you understand it, if your life depended on it.

The government was about to ban fox hunting (a particularly cruel 'sport'), and these Conservative party voters organized this march in protest. The Countryside Alliance's aim is to protect fox hunting. It's a very monochrome pressure group, much joked about... and now, you brought it back to the table [8D]!

Unfortunately for your credibility, there are British posters on these boards who know what this is about: you might just have gotten away with it otherwise [:D] . Oh... and some info: http://www.countryside-alliance.org/

LOL LOL oh that was just FUNNY, Im loving the American voice over. Sorry dudes but its a pile of crap, hunting is done by such a small minority (well was obviously its banned now). Oh and its nowt to do with wanting guns they want to be able to drink champagne and network. People can and do still own guns for shooting.

Gotta love the manipulation of facts

It's a case of wishful thinking on the part of the American posters, who would find some vindication were the UK to adopt less stringent gun laws.

colouredin -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/22/2009 6:40:17 AM)

Ahh right, well sorry but i just dont see that EVER happening, for the large part we dont want guns.

I think thats possibly the first time I have seen a British person say they wanted to have a gun for 'protection' but it was all just hype they were annoyed and chucking their toys of the pram because fox hunting is such an outdated practice and most people wanted it banned

kittinSol -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/22/2009 6:42:30 AM)

Yep, and look at how uninformed foreign gun enthusiasts react to a Countryside Alliance demo [8D] .

colouredin -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/22/2009 6:44:30 AM)

Ahh well you have to get your support where ever you can I guess.

kittinSol -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/22/2009 6:46:02 AM)

This is what I don't get: why would pro-gun Americans seek affirmation from what's happening in the United Kingdom (and get it wrong in the process)?

colouredin -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/22/2009 6:59:33 AM)

Well I guess its justification isnt it, 'see it isnt just us'. The getting it wrong thing well thats just media and politics and all that stuff.

Dnomyar -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/22/2009 9:19:43 AM)

What is outdated about Fox Hunting. I don't know why I even bother asking that. There you have to get a fishing liscence and hope that they let you fish in a good spot. Question on hunting. Do you have to shoot from stands crowded with other people and have the game driven to you?

kittinSol -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/22/2009 9:29:07 AM)

Fox hunting involves the tearing apart of an animal by a pack of hounds. The fox doesn't even get shot. It's barbaric. And now... banned, in England and Wales. Soon, in Scotland, I believe.
