Thanks to everyone for their comments.  I have a foam mattress (a Bragada) that I spent $1500 on a few years ago, but it's just too hard.  Also, I find it difficult to turn over from my back onto my side -- not sure why; maybe it's just too hard, or maybe it's the foam that doesn't allow me to "slide" on it.

The information about Select Comfort being in financial straits was particularly eye-opening for me, since a warranty isn't any good if there isn't a company left to back it up.  Definitely something to think about with ANY company.

I'm going to stay in a Radisson Hotel next weekend, and they have Select Comfort beds, so hopefully I'll get a better feel (pun intended) of whether they're worth buying.

Thanks again!

We had one in my house for several weeks, until it was returned.  I got booted out of my bed because of an un-happy camper hated it and I can tell you from experience... it is not worth it.

If you get the number setting right, it is comfortable... but not worth the price.  If you have two people who cannot stand to sleep in the same bed and sleep apart, then it might be worth the investment.  Otherwise, save your money and buy a memory foam mattress (some of the brands have different feels) or a traditional mattress.

Your wallet will thank you.

I have one and have had one for about 10 years now.  It is great for me, as I like a barely inflated mattress, especially, so that my partner can roll down-hill to snuggle with me.  BTW- I need a new partner ;-)

Anyways, I think I paid $1200 for it and love it, they even sent me a free mattress (the inflatable pillow part) and a new hose when my side popped after a night of fun a few years back.  I do agree that the company problems are a concern, so that might play a big factor in your decision, but I like mine and you are welcome to come to CT and try it out.  The best thing about my bed, is that you can also unwip the pillow-top and bring it to the dry cleaners and you have a brand new mattress every 6 months when it is cleaned.

And, I would like to try-out a temperpedic or similar bed at one point... anyone interested in swapping for a week?
