Thank God I wasn't drinking anything when I read that!

So being called a subbie is wrong but being part of the subbie mafia is a good thing? I'm confused.

From him, it would be endearing. From a stranger it would be condescending. The same way people frequently don't mind being called: cunt, slut, whore, fuckhole from their partner but would definitely object to being called by those terms by a stranger.

marie2 -> RE: subbies (2/8/2009 5:54:09 AM)

FR

It's not my favorite word, and it sounds kind of silly,  but it only bothers me if the person using it is trying to be demeaning.  Some doms will use it as a cute word or an endearing term, so it's all about the intent.  I don't get too hung up on it.  I really don't like any of the terms we use--doms,subs, slaves, daddys, masters, blah blah blah, but when communicating in these venues, they seem to be necessary in order to convey the basics.

It's kind of strange how many of us melt into a puddle of slop from being called cunt bitch or whore, but protest when a man we're speaking with refers to us as "subbies" or calls us "dear" or "sweetie" or "girl".  In and of itself it's just not an issue for me.

lmao....You can beat me, fuck me, tear me from stem to stern with your cock, choke the air out of me, slap the shit out of me, and use me like a dirty fucking whore,  just don't ever call me subbie....

Roselaure -> RE: subbies (2/8/2009 6:19:17 AM)

I really don't care if someone calls me "subbie."  It's simply a diminutive form of "submissive" and since I don't care if I'm not capitilized it doesn't bother me.

I like "subbie" a lot more than made up words like "funishment."

myotherself -> RE: subbies (2/8/2009 6:33:00 AM)

when called it by someone I like/respect, then it's no problem.

When used by someone I've never met, it comes across as being a little patronising.  Yet oddly enough, the same people don't like being called 'dommie'.

Go figure![:)]

bamagirl4u -> RE: subbies (2/8/2009 6:33:32 AM)

I don't mind the word subbie...but then I also don't mind be called a slut--in the right setting...words are words..if you don't like them..don't use them.  It is all about diversity...sometimes I say "fantabulous"...a mix of fantastic and fabulous...why??? I don't know!! [;)]

subangi -> RE: subbies (2/8/2009 6:44:04 AM)

You can call me anything...just dont call me late for dinner.
Silly question, silly answer.

littlewonder -> RE: subbies (2/8/2009 7:06:25 AM)

It's a condescending term and I never use it and tend to ignore those who use it.

There are times when a dom will use it and I will tend to respond to him as "dommie". After I call him that about 2 or 3 times miraculously he gets the point and either stops talking to me or stops saying "subbie".

T1981 -> RE: subbies (2/8/2009 8:01:30 AM)

I never thought to take offense at the word. To me, it seems cute and affectionate.

Careful. We aren't all dominance challenged. Popular misconception. I'm capable of being quite a bitch actually, and very dominant to most people, just never to Him. I just don't like such over familiarity, it breeds contempt or haven't you heard?

SassySarijane -> RE: subbies (2/8/2009 9:03:29 AM)

Depends on the context and intent behind the usage of it. A group of friends bantering back and forth and using it in a lighthearted teasing manner, it's funny. Used by a stranger in a (usually in my experience) condescending manner...............forget it. Total turn off and I tend to take people less seriously who use it in a serious manner. It's a fun word not a serious word for me.

feydeplume -> RE: subbies (2/8/2009 9:24:03 AM)

I *heart* dommies and subbies!  It makes for such a nice change from the slave vs submissive or Dom/me/Domina vs Master/Mistress/Ma'am/Goddess debates.

My least favorite terms are the really oddly made up words like "Dom/sub- tabulous" or "dom/sub-alicious" or "d/s- tasticicle" grrrrr. Subbies seems a small abuse of the language compared to those, to me.

Nikitaa -> RE: subbies (2/8/2009 9:28:27 AM)

"oooo is the little subbie upset? Does poooor little baby subbie need more ice or a spanking?"

LOL. I am not mocking you Realsub58. ^^This is what I would say to you if you were sub I have and I knew you not like the word.

MidMichCowboy -> RE: subbies (2/8/2009 10:49:42 AM)

I will admit I've been guilty of using it in the past. This is one of those things that a person should be more conscious about. Shorting words into slang can be denigrating. If it offends, I won't use it anymore.

I agree with oceanwynds, it is juvenile to defend use of this word (she is a smart lady). If it offends people, then just type a few extra letters and be correct.

NuevaVida made a good point when she stated that using the word, when it offends others, is condescending and simpleplan2 says its diminutive. marie2 says it is silly. Some don't mind if it is used by someone close to them. I think its just smart to NOT use it. littlewonder came out against it. Lovely, intelligent ladies who think its wrong. Good enough for me.

This is not like a closely held belief that you should stand up for and defend. This is something that affects people who read and hear it. So why not use the term submissive, or if you are talking about a specific person, I prefer to use their name.

Sandyshores29718 -> RE: subbies (2/8/2009 10:53:28 AM)

Be called a subbie does not bother me at all. *shrug* I think there are worse things to be called.

missturbation -> RE: subbies (2/8/2009 10:58:55 AM)

It bothers me but thats because i am not a 'subbie' or a submissive [:D]

IvyMorgan -> RE: subbies (2/8/2009 1:11:32 PM)

I really don't care about "subbie" it tends to elicit a response something along the lines of "oh lord high and mighty one, i am not worthy of your domliness" or something.

Slut, on the other hand, in any context, earns you a slap.

SwimGoldfishSwim -> RE: subbies (2/8/2009 1:27:38 PM)

lol i have to agree with Aynne

it's not condescending to me at all, it's just another word but can change meaning with tone. Sometimes people just like the affectionate undertone to it while others view it as mocking. Just depends on who you are.

Would that be a favorite type of control you have at age 20?  Degrdation and humiliation?
I have avoided that type of dominance at all costs, because I know myself.

LOL. I am not mocking you Realsub58. ^^This is what I would say to you if you were sub I have and I knew you not like the word.

Well, if a 50's some submissive wants to submit to their grandchild type of ager, then that is their type of submission.
It is not mine.

I would like to mention ~~ life and the meaning of life and the people you interface with will change, maybe every 5 yrs, but definately every 10 years.

It's the perspective of the journey.
I wont be alive when you reach my age, but I hope you realize at that point, the journey changes us.

Be well and stay strong Nikitaa
