My moms friends dog was ran over a few days ago outside their house. I don't know the whole story, but apparently  Sam didn't feel the need to have Cissy on a leash, since they were right outside their homes and it was going to be just for a few moments, and Cissy happened to run out into the streets at the wrong moment and was hit and killed.

This did not have to happen, if Cissy had been on a leash.

It was suicide. Good, old Cissy eh. The economy takes a down turn, Sam can no longer afford to keep her in dog biscuits and Meaty Chunks, and, like any obedient pet, Cisse does the honourable thing and runs head long into a car. It really is a dog's life sometimes.

Contrary to popular belief mankind has never lived in caves.

Honne in Germany (Needs two dots (umlat) over the "o")
Great Cave at Niah in Malaysia
Mesa Verde (I have been there)

and there are others.

Those weren’t caves they were caverns.

Like to see you produce 100% factual evidence they lived in them.

A cavern is a large cave.  And those "thingies" in the side of the cliffs at Mesa Verde are CAVES.

And what do you think that they were doing in them?  And how do you define "living" in them.  I think being born, eating, sleeping, defending, and dying in them would count.  But that is just me.

Did you actually see these people living in these caves because if we have people living in caves in this day and age we should really stop focussing on cat leash laws IMOOOSHO.

How about the caves at Qumram (where they found the Dead Sea Scrolls, among other antiquities dating back to around 1000 bc)?

No, because we have moved to the "unnaturalness" of houses.  Again, though, what do you think that they were doing with them if they were not living in them?  Why is their stuff there?

Maybe they congregated to worship, perhaps they were waiting for the next bus to come along.

Could think of hundreds of alternative uses.

You are right.  That makes SO much MORE sense.  They slept out in the rain and just used the caves for worship.  And to eat each other.  Thanks for clearing THAT up.

There is no evidence, I know of and I may be mistaken because I'm not an archaeologist, that proves people lived in caves. If humanity was wiped out tomorrow the next generation to walk the earth could indeed believe you lived in the local Wal-Mart.

You are making the mistake of assuming the climate was similar to now. Secondly there has never been enough caves in the world to cater for all the supposed cavemen that would have existed so yes some did have to sleep out in the rain regardless or fuck knows maybe under a tree. You can assume half a dozen variations on the truth from your limited perspective of modern life.

The town that I live in DOES have a leash law for cats as well.

Crazy people making rules to eliminate all risks, impossible.

Except not crazy to demand that you control your animals, that they don't deface others property or hurt other people. And anyone who has had a pack of feral cats or dogs around know that they are a real threat.

In addition, it isn't uncommon for someone who has irresponsibly allowed their pet to roam, where it then gets hit by a car, to sue the driver. Installing a leash law means that such frivolous law suits can no longer be filed. Because if your pet runs in front of my car and I cannot safely stop in time, I don't want to have to spend several thousand dollars defending myself nor do I want my insurance rates to go up.

The leash law establishes fault, in the exact same manner that the person who rear ends another's car is declared at fault, even if the first car stops short suddenly. Because if you don't follow that closely you wouldn't rear end them. If you don't let your pet wander, other people won't have car accidents trying to avoid them.

Where are you getting this fact, by chance?  Because there's a lot of evidence that folks lived in caves.

Hi thorny, right behind you girl, had to find this -

Archeology News Report

Earliest evidence of cave-dwelling humans.

Monday, December 22, 2008 "A research team led by Professor Michael Chazan, director of the University of Toronto's Archaeology Centre, has discovered the earliest evidence of our cave-dwelling human ancestors at the Wonderwerk Cave in South Africa.
Stone tools found at the bottom level of the cave — believed to be 2 million years old — show that human ancestors were in the cave earlier than ever thought before. Geological evidence indicates that these tools were left in the cave and not washed into the site from the outside world.
Archaeological investigations of the Wonderwerk cave — a South African National Heritage site due to its role in discovering the human and environmental history of the area — began in the 1940s and research continues to this day."

Yeah. . . but the "theory" here is that if we do not have video footage, it did not happen.  *sigh*

Which of course means that a lack of evidence is evidence.

Anybody want to see the Invisible flying pink dragon in my shed?

I don't let my cats outside, unless they're leashed.  They go out on the screened in porch for their 'outdoor' fix (theres a gap under the door, so the occasional lizard gets in and entertains them).  There are too many ferals in my neighborhood, not to mention possums and raccoons.  I'm not risking the lives of my Girls for a misguided notion that theyre MEANT to live outdoors.  They were born in a house and have lived their entire lives as housecats.  They wouldnt have a clue outdoors. Hell, they cant even figure out quite what to do with those lizards... lots of tailless lizards around my house...LOL

Here you are - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9A86qGMVkv8&feature=related - evidence presented on television in the 1960's that people lived in caves. More specifically, at 2:24 of the video.
