I wish I had a dollar for everytime I was threaten, bitten, etc. by someone's pet who "never does that-it must be me" Too many pet owners forget the basic premise of existance of their pets: They're animals!

If pet owners would grasp that simple concept, their pets wouldn't be speed bumps or public enemy number one.

The good pet owners know this. The pet owners who think their pets are people are the pet owners whose chimpanzee gets 15 minutes of fame.

Did you have a hard time training them to the leash? I tried that on a cat of mine and he slunk along practically on his elbows!

I wouldnt say that theyre TRAINED... it's just a way for me to make sure they dont wander away. basically, I follow where they lead

I can tell you that I don't care if you own a cat or a dog. If you take them outside then they should have a leash on. I see the results of what happens to cats and dogs almost on a daily basis. The owners always says I didn't think they would run into the road, I didn't see that coyote or hear that owl that swooped down and grab my pet. It is heartbreaking when you lose a pet. Oh and the old line cats need to roam. That may be okay if you live in the country and need them for pest control in your barns and outbuildings. But not in a populated area. If you don't believe me spent an evening at your local emergency vet clinic and see what comes through the doors after all the local vets have closed for the day.

LOL, well with sparky It would of been a must be you reaction, because he was kind and sweet and literally liked just about every one.

With Ginger, who's very aggressive and territorial and has social issues I wouldn't even dream of taking her out alone by myself. I have no illusions that I can control her, nor that she couldn't pull me down and run off. I think it's the wisest thing I can do, is to realize I can't keep her or other people safe because I can't control her on her leash because she pulls really hard and will knock me down, and she runs fast and once loose she'll be 3 blocks before you're 1 block. Plus the fact that she would go after any other dog she felt was fair game if left free to do so.

And yeah I suppose I could learn to control her and make her obediant and what not, but I don't feel it's worth the risk. We'll take her out when Daddy or my non ageplay dad is handling her. They are strong enough to controll the pulling and the bratty leash behavior.

I found what was a gorgeous cat smashed in the road a little past our house, and I see animal carcases all the time, on roads and beside roads, of kitties and doggies and other animals that were unfortunate.

And as a young child I also carried home the freshly ran over body of a friends dog, who was out because the dog slipped out un noticed. I've also tracked down and returned dogs running loose in my neighborhood, One the day before Valentines day. The owners said he was such a good boy and never left the yard they didn't bother to chain him up, and then were supprised when I called to say I had their dog he was running up the street.

um, Full Circle, man has too lived in caves, we have them in alot of areas here in Arizona.....the caves, not the occupants. There are archaeoligical sites in places where whole groups of people lived in caves. Just sayin'.

My cats are all housecats, as are all of my family's cats. All of them are leash trained, we bought small dog harnesses.....the cat harnesses are as useless as tits on a board hog.....took KB all of about 7 seconds to get out of one.....and this came about because we lost our first family cat to a car one night. That was the second time in my enitire life I'd seen my father cry, the only other times were when his parents passed, and Annie, yet another leash trained cat, also died....cancer, not vehicle. And EVERY dog we had never was outside without being on a leash......and this was before leash laws even existed. Purebred or mutt, that's just the way it was. They are just as fast as kids can be, and dart out without looking at anything but what it was that caught their attention. I once hit a dog that was loose, chasing a cat, and I felt like I was going to die.......but luckily, I apparently only stunned it, because when the deputy went to the owner to cite him for letting it loose, the dog was alive and well, inside the house. Thank God I slowed down when I saw the cat running hell-bent for leather.....where I'm from, something runs out in front of you at a high rate of speed, you slow down, cuz something is making it run for their life.

Feral cats are a real problem, they spread diseases, can decimate the local bird populations in almost no time at all, and are left to the mercies of life.....all because some dumbass human couldn't be responsible enough to care for the cats properly. At one point a few months ago, our local county animal control office was offering a 2 for 1 sale on cats...literally, buy one, get one free.....they were so overpopulated that that was a last resort before euthanizing them. Thre is a woman that works for the state here that will trap feral cats, and take them and get them neutered, and release them back into the area. Yeah, it sucks that homes can't be found for them, but ferals, for the most part, can't be housebroken. And I'll admit it, I, and two other women I work with, feed the groups of strays around the buildings in the complex downtown. Beats watching them starve to death.

OK, slightly off topic, but oh well, it's late and I'm bored. Bottom line OP, it was the owner's fault for being thoughtless enough to think the dog was "safe" off a leash. I have no sympathy for her stupidity.....the person who hit and killed her dog will also have to live with that sight in their mind for a long time.

There's a lady here that does that too.
She also runs a no kill shelter, and some of the animals like Elmer Fudd a pit bull, have been with her for 3 or 4 years now, because hardly any one wants a pit bull.

Thorny, I didn't start putting mine on a leash until they were older......they adapted okay....it's getting them INTO the harness that's a PITA.....they tend to just flop down on the floor and go limp when I'm putting it on. But once they get hooked up to the leash, I'd damn well be ready to go NOW! And Greedy's right...you really don't WALK a cat...you follow him.....and who knew that 3 cats could go in 8 different directions at once????? Once they get used to the whole idea, they will know what the leash and harness are for, and will pester you to go if they see it.....my mom's one cat, Tabby, will sit under his leash and harness, and stare holes into you until you get his subliminal message. And Annie NEVER once went outside without her leash on...she'd sit at the door and look out it, but then give you a look like "C'mon, stoopid....you know the drill!!"

Just keep trying it with your kitteh....he may slink, but if you ignore him, he'll stop and start exploring.....

It is usually done by getting them used to wearing a harness indoors first and then gradually the leash and then going outside and sniffing everything and rolling around in the sunshine and chewing on the grass and making chattering noises at the birds and squirrels and ...
