I wonder what made Steele turn around like that: is Limbaugh really that much of a bully [>:] ?

Not a bully..but he has a tremendous following.  Is more in tune with the conservative base than the "for hire" republicans at the RNC.  I stopped giving to the RNC years ago in favor of individual candidates.

kdsub -> RE: Limbaugh's latest attacker: RNC's Steele (3/3/2009 7:15:30 AM)

He reminds me of Joseph Goebbels in the way he demonizes his political enemies. He and those like him are a dangerous cancer to our Republic.

There is a difference between debating political positions and breeding hate.

StrangerThan -> RE: Limbaugh's latest attacker: RNC's Steele (3/3/2009 7:17:57 AM)

Virtually every political statement is half truth. Limbaugh is no different at that than anyone else. He is legitimized because he is a voice for people who have no voice anywhere else. He is a voice for people who watched the ignoble end of Dan Rather, who listened to Chris Mattews get jitters up and down his legs just by watching Obama walk on stage, and who understand that journalism is about as objective as a closet homophobe watching a gay pride march.

I don't know what's hard to understand about that. I also don't understand what shuttering him or shutting him down will resolve. The bottom line is that left and right in this country are going to have to find common ground or the chasm between them will do nothing more than get deeper.

I don't consider him an entertainer. I consider him a commentator. He happens to be a mouthpiece for an aspect of the Republican base and the conservative base. Of those two, the second pays his salary. When the first starts paying his salary, then we can talk fairness doctrines or whatever today's word twisting game has buried the concept under.

So because millions of bozos listen to him for entertainment, a senior politician has to apologise to him for calling him an entertainer? Woah: that's wonderfully fucked up.

  you don't wonder why he is only talking about "AM stations" dominated by talk radio  classic rock, and hip - hop

They still have AM radio?

I thought that died with black-and-white tv's.

Lucylastic -> RE: Limbaugh's latest attacker: RNC's Steele (3/3/2009 7:29:18 AM)

Well Im just gobsmacked, totally gobsmacked, I did not think Steele would back off.
Lack of testicular fortitude is not what will make the republican party viable again.
The loony fringe needs to be excised like supurating pus filled wound. not fed and nurtured and revered.
Rush and Ann the king and queen of the repub party, oh this should be hysterically nightmarish.

slaveboyforyou -> RE: Limbaugh's latest attacker: RNC's Steele (3/3/2009 7:29:48 AM)

He didn't have to apologize Kittin.  But it would have been politically ignorant of him to not have.  People can say what they want about Rush Limbaugh, but he is very good at what he does.  I don't listen to him faithfully or very often.  I don't listen to the radio often at all.  But he and conservative talk radio saved AM radio.  They really did, and it pisses American liberals off.

I totally agree. Get your knife. I'll get mine. You start with the right. I'll start with the left. Maybe what's left will actually be able to live together and formulate policy that's actually good for the country rather than appeasing a base set of those pus filled wounds on either side.

That would be just fine if that were all he did... but on top of that he breeds hate...Just do a search of his outrageous statements through the years… then tell me they are justified... but be careful because I will post some and let you justify them here.

StrangerThan -> RE: Limbaugh's latest attacker: RNC's Steele (3/3/2009 7:39:45 AM)

Post all you want. I'm not justifying anything he says, does or believes. Just as I won't justify anyones choice to abort or keep a baby, anyones choice to hold candlelight vigils at the execution of a serial murderer or dance in joy, anyones choice to suck a cock or lick a cunt. Personally I would be quite happy if both sides would shut the fuck up and go on about life.

Since no one is going to do that though, and since every opinion is defended by the Constitution, I have no issue with him airing his in a market that support it.

Thing is, Steele hardly criticised Limbaugh: he just said he was an 'entertainer', as a passing remark (on CNN, I think).

Isn't it the truth that Limbaugh is an entertainer? Or did Steele have to apologise because of Limbaugh's new appointment as True Leader of the Republican National Committee?

I think we should be told.

I think it was more the part when Steele said his show was incendiary and ugly that created the controversy.

Which it is, but that's what he gets paid for.

The problem is how much influence and respect he is being given by the Republican party.

I have no desire to shut him down.

I actually find him amusing sometimes.

The problem is when you have someone who makes his living by inciting people, by making incendiary, often outright false claims and then is treated as a hero by the Republicans instead of the talk show host he is.

A commentator?  No.  A commentator is someone who presents a balanced view of situations.  Limbaugh created his fortune by purposely not being balanced, by purposely trying to provoke outrage.

Which is fine.

Except when he begins to be viewed as a political statesman instead of the ratings-hounding shock jock that he is.

lol... I didn't think you would want to justify him...We are not talking about sides... sure there are other asses on the air... we are talking about Limbaugh... Let another thread talk about the others.

Neither are we talking abut his right to say what he says...only is he an ass for saying them.

kittinSol -> RE: Limbaugh's latest attacker: RNC's Steele (3/3/2009 8:05:49 AM)

You're right: I just listened to the whole thing.

Woah! Steele DARED say that Limbaugh's "whole thing was incendiary and ugly". Woah. Call the United Nations: he personally insulted the people who listen to Limbaugh and believe his words are gospel. Woah! Diplomatic crisis [8|]!

Seriously, this episode is a wart in the face of the RNC. That Steele apologised demonstrates that he does not have the caliber to be in his position. It's like apologising to a clown for fear of describing the clown's job as clowning... what the fuck rofl?!

Very well said, although I don't necessarily agree with the first two lines. ;)

I couldn't believe that in Steele's apology, he referred to Limbaugh as a leader. I was completely dumbfounded. A leader? Of what??? The ridiculous? Limbaugh is such a bag of wind. I see nothing in him worthy of emulating. IMHO, he is vitriolic. Why does someone who is so negative capture so much attention?

Because lots of  people get off on conflict, and find solace in reactionary rhetoric. It's what populism is made of.

A proper response to the ugly,dark,un-healthy character named Rush Limbaugh.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Here`s Rush, bullying his own listeners.Any who care to see what Rush is all about,check this out.Enjoy.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzuOc3Gi7lY
Wow.This clip is a real hoot.Rush at his best or in other words,at his worst.It`s just a week old.
~~~~~~~~~~~

Just check out the Orwellian bumper, that ends the show segment.

"in times like these,we need him more than ever,Rush!"

lol,kinda funny when one realizes that Rush produced that bumper(music/words to open/close a show) that praises himself.

Oh brother.

~~~~~~~~~
cory,how can you respect a guy like this?
It`s obvious that you`re a listener and fan of the man.
Can you give us some insights as to why he appeals to you?
What is it he says or does that earns him your respect?
OrionTheWolf -> RE: Limbaugh's latest attacker: RNC's Steele (3/3/2009 10:12:33 AM)
People like Rush, and the ludicrous ideas they present, are some of the reasons the Republicans have lost some of their supporters as well. I consider myself an Independent Conservative, and used to support the Republicans but I cannot support a party that 1) Made a contract with America that they did not live up to, and in fact went the ooposite direction. 2) Uses bigotry and ignorance to promote their agenda.
They fanatic religious zealots (not all religious people) is another reason I left that party. What does the Republican party actually represent anymore? Smaller government? Nope, it grew in the last 8 years. Responsible fiscal spending? Nope, spending exploded in the last 8 years. Individual liberties? Nope, the Patriot Act along with the conduct of the DOJ during the last 8 years throws that out.
Rush is an entertainer, albeit one that uses politics to do so. He is one of the lead cheerleaders on the right, and we really are better off without people like him, and this includes those that are fanatic on the left as well.
And those fanatics on the left would be?.......
Please list the TV/radio shows they host and the elected Democrats that support them?
Rush now leads the neo-conservatives.No one but embarrassed ditto-heads denies this.
I`m getting a little tired of you making statements like that without backing them up......<goose-gander>
And in a nut shell you have shown what is wrong with the Republican Party...its base is out of touch and under the influence of this "entertainer".Till Republican leadership excises his influence,repudiates his stance and takes back what was once a great American political party...they shall be on the outside looking in railing against the party in power ...the Democrats.
Apologising to this clown is a step backwards in the process the Republicans must go thru .
