I had breasts that were different sizes and one that pointed to the floor, so when i had my hysterectomy done, i had a reduction on one side and a lift on the other. The reduction was a pedicle so the nipple wasn't detached and moved (like a skin graft, so i have sensation in it. I do have to say that it took a while to get it back. The breast its self has sensation.

The other didn't need much of a lift so just had a suture line around the nipple.

Most mastopexys (lifts) are done the same way as a breast reduction, so you end up with a suture line around the nipple and down into the breast crease . For a lift the nipple is left attached to the breast tissue (pedicle ) and moved to where the surgeon wants it. You end up with a fuller breast, and little tissue is removed. Most of what is removed is skin.  You may or maynot have a drain afterwards for a couple of day. If you are happy with the volume of your breasts, just need a lift, then implants aren't necessary. If you want additional volume then a small implant may be what you need.
I had one plastic surgeon say that it was better to have the lift, and come back later for the implant after the breast had healed and settled down. There is some relaxation  while healing, and  putting the implant in the best position is more of a guess when done at the time of the lift  -  but i have seen both done at the same time.

Its been about 10 years since i had mine, and i still love my boobs. The scars have faded into the areolar, and really aren't very noticable. The sensation isn't what it used to be, but my satisfaction  at seeing  myself naked more than makes up for that little loss. Actually i think my nipples are more sensitive to pain now than they were before. I wouldn't pass a pencil test - but i am a 50-something woman and boobs up against my chin would look ...  "odd".
Breast bondage - totally do-able  -  with one caveat - talk to your surgeon, tell him/her that you enjoy playing with rope in the bedroom and ask when you would be able to "play"again.  Don't let embarassement get in your way.  It won't be the first time that they have heard that.

All in all , it was a positive experience for me. I certainly would do it again. Pain was very little - actually, i never really hurt in my breasts - they were just a little sore.
ps - i worked for 15 years in an outpatient surgery, so i knew what i was getting into.

I myself had breast reduction about 14 years ago. I had some monstrous mammary glands that could have been divided up between several girls, lol! My nipples were placed a bit higher up and the Doctor said he did some sort of slip knot inside with the milk ducts I believe to hoist my hooters up a bit besides the reduction. My scars were never too bad and the only numbness that remained permanent is about a 1 1/2 inch square area to the right of my left nipple. I think I have more sensation in my ta-ta's now than I did before the surgery and I understand that things are more perfected these days than back when I had mine done. I did not by the way need implants to fill anything in and the twins, while they may be sitting a bit lower than they did 14 years ago, are simply boobilicious still!

An important note about breast implants: they're not permanent. Eventually they must be replaced or removed. ('Eventually' typically being something on the order of 10 or 20 years . . . . )

I'd recommend anyone considering implants to do a lot of research about the long-term problems, especially young women; lots of women are thrilled in the first few years, but the problems seem to manifest on a longer time scale . . . . . . I've read some pretty horrific stuff about saline implants pulled out that were full of mold, & that's only one of many 'fun' possibilities . . . . .

Best,

I have strongly considered a reduction.  Im a very tiny woman 4'9", small boned and very petite.  I have been carrying about DD's since the age of 16.

I have constant problems with my neck and shoulders, I had mostly attributed it to muscle damage to an accident but as time goes by the muscle lock ups especially in my neck which leads down to my shoulder are pretty constant.

I suppose on reason might be that no working I feen to avoid wearing a bra because they are to confining.

I would love to get a reduction to like a C but I hesitate because years ago I had a friend that got one and the maniac dr made a mess of things and resulted in alot of complications.
I hae medicare but it does say that they can be done if its affecting you pain wise due to carrying the extra weight.

I dont have the indentions since for the past 10 years I have left them free of bras except when getting out.  So I dunno, I just know that lately something other  than the tissue damage on the right side isnt the problem, its the left side where I never had alot of problems. The right side I am so used to that unless its goes to a tension headache that has the characteristic of a miagrane I can tolerate it using just tylenol and the one relaxer that usually helps.

This bout is proving to be difficult.  I would love to not be unbalanced anymore, but I have never had major surgury and Im a bit skitish about it.

I had a reduction when I was 19; I'm 43 now.  At the time mentally it was for more aesthetic reasons and self-confidence issues, although insurance covered the procedure since on X-ray you could see the obvious spinal misalignment, not to mention the grooves in my shoulders where my bra straps dug in.  Since then the procedure has changed a bit, but the incision is still the same, given what women have told me about more recent reductions.  I experienced some pain but it wasn't intolerable.  My only limitation was range of motions with my arms, especially driving a car, but that lasted for less than a week.  Having the sutures removed was quite excruciating since I experienced tissue adhesion.  The scars won't be as bad if you're careful to use some type of scar treatment like Mederma or even Retin-A.  The scars are noticeable only if you're really looking for them.

I've lost only minimal sensation in one nipple, but my breasts have never been all that sensitive anyway.  I can say that over time the results have held up (pun intended).  If I had to do it over, I wouldn't hesitate.

Mine have never been overly sensitive either, so Im not worried about that. Having seen what the quack dr did to my friend and watching breast reductions on tv, I note that one thing they do is insise the areola so that it can be placed in a proper position after the reduction.  Now I dont know if this is standard or that part would come under comestic surgury.

As I stated previously I dont have the bra indentions simply because I spend most of my time at home because of my anxiety.  Perhaps it would help if I got a decent support bra that might take some of the pressure off my neck and shoulders.  Although a while back, several years ago while visiting nyc I went into a bra store to get properly fitted and get a bra that provided proper support.  It was a monster of a bra that seemed more like a short corset than a bra itself and was very uncomfortable.

If anyone could recommend a brand that provides good support without being uncomfortable that would be great.  I dont mind paying for quality but it would have to be one I wouldnt want to rip off after 5 minutes. As it is as soon as I get home, its the first thing to come off.

Withy my 12 year history of neck and shoulder pain perhaps medicare would approve it, although I am lacking the bra indentions since I rarely wear one.

Haha, send me a note next time you come up to GA- and I will show you Livi Rae Lingerie. They measure every person for the right bra size, a lot of women with ginormous boobers go there for their custom bras, apparently they are really comfortable. (I wouldn't know... I've got lil boobies) The bra's are cute as well... none of this half torso bra stuff.

They also do custom bras for mastectomy patients, and made some really cool corsets for a friend of mine that runs a club downtown called Door 44.

chimaera...like reading my own story
i would like to add
it took me absolute ages to feel confident that the scars really had healed up and always tended to get nervous if my boyfriend at the time wanted to push my breasts up...there would have been no way i would have entertained the thought of binding them.
Also about ten years after the op they grew again...my whole body is fuller so i have no problem with it...and i find now they are a great size to bind haha

editted to add
Ask any doctor you have a consultation with to show you photos of patients so you can see his skill, there are butchers out there!!
