You never surrendered your youth to war, and you weren't raised in a country where the culture repeatedly suggests to you how evil and sinister your religion (and Catholicism is cultural in some ways) is.

Be careful. You want a persecution complex competition? You don't know the first thing about me. I'm Jewish: I know quite a bit about my religion and culture being held as the root of all evils. War affected my family very, very directly, although I was fortunate to not have been born thirty years earlier.

The Pope was a Nazi youth: that is why I link him to the Nazis. He may have regretted it, but that's between himself and his conscience. He should not have been elected precisely because of this. And his reinstating of the Holocaust denying bishop is unfuckingforgivable and certainly confirms the suspicion that there's something not very palatable about him. Why you take this as a personal attack is your business, not mine.

He should be in the business of spirituality, something that's much needed in today's world, not in the business of telling vulnerable people what they should or shouldn't do with their own sexuality. After all... if there was a God, I doubt very mcuh whether he or she would give a toss if people fucked with a condom or not [8|] . And it takes a little mind to think otherwise.

is insulting others who don't belong to the One True Church and refusing to answer questions about it what you were trained to do?

cjan -> RE: No Condoms In Africa, says the Pope (3/19/2009 2:25:06 PM)

To da pope re condoms:
"You no play-a da game, you no make-a da rules".

The pope should be more concerned with diocese in the U.S. going bankrupt due to court judgments as a result of pedophile priests and the Catholic church's cover-ups of same than where and how lay people stick their pee-pees.

Vendaval -> RE: No Condoms In Africa, says the Pope (3/19/2009 2:45:07 PM)

UPSG,

Hey, don't be dissin my homegirls now.

beth is a very smart and astute woman who calls bullshit when something reeks.

And you think kitten would support the Nazi party?  Man, she is Jewish.

Now it is my turn.  Half my family is Protestant and half is Catholic so I know a great deal about the positives and negatives of both.  And in regards to the Catholic Church there are a great many kind hearted church members who do charitable works to help their fellow human beings.  What is pissing people off here in this thread is the specific policies and actions of the Church hierarchy.  Many Catholic families in more developed countries do not follow the Church teachings on contraception because of the sheer impracticality of those rules.

The Pope can't stop anyone in Africa from doing what they want

why can't he encourage the catholics in Africa to use condoms?

isn't he the catholic mouthpiece of God?

whatever he decrees IS church doctrine, n'est-ce pas?

if he woke up tomorrow and made a declaration that God told him to encourage the world to use condoms if they can't keep it in their pants, doesn't that make it official dogma for the whole religion?

isn't that how the catholic church has gone about changing up the rules over the course of their history...councils of cardinals and papal decree?

"Nicean creed", "Friday the 13th" and "Inquisition" ring a bell?

please excuse this slave's ignorance on the workings of the catholic church, if somehow she is wrong in her perceptions...as this slave is merely an American-born pagan on the fastrack path to Catholic Hell and has only studied the religion from an outsider perspective...and rarely, if ever, has used condoms.

Your comments, and admitted ignorance, only makes Pagans look bad and not Catholics.

It is a Catholic virtue to seek to learn about others.

The Inquisition is exaggerated and I would refer you to Henry Kamen who is both ethnically Jewish and an historian of Spain. Kamen puts the Spanish Inquisition - regarded as the most notorious - at having put to death approximately 5,000 people over the course of several hundreds years.

Woah... why you chose to take my post so personally is a little bit of a mystery to me. Are you the Pope? And what does being Euro have to do with anything? The Pope used to be a Nazi. And he likes Holocaust deniers. Need we say more [8|] ?

Kittin, what do you know about those times? You say "Nazi" as though I'm suppose to react like a trained dog to the word. Should I get excited if I'm reminded General Robert E. Lee was a Confederate? The world is either black or white right. Good or bad. The Pope I doubt had any more personal responsibility with Jewish deaths than the founders of the State of Israel (who were in bed with the Nazi's). Interesting enough, old Jewish men who understood those times - in Europe - far better than you or I and some of the Rabbi's forgive the Pope his youth.

Well Roselaure we don't really need to respect the belief...but respecting his right to preach to his flock is another story isn't it?
It is religous dogma,do You respect every other tenet of every other religion.... isn't what we really need is to learn to  respect the right of people to practice their faith in what ever fashion they choose to.

He has the perfect right to preach anything he likes to anyone who will listen, and  I have the right to call it BS.

Manning Marable in his book How Capitalism Underdeveloped Black America notes that about 5,000 Black-Americans soon after Reconstruction, were lynched in a period of 50 years or less throughout the South. (several hundred years > fifty years or less) And they were lynched in some of the most brutal ways - far more brutal at times than the Inquisition - including burning at stakes.

Your one sided views of History are becoming tiresome. You quote the figures above to prove some sort of virtuous point, yet omit the massacre of an estimated 5,000 to 30,000 Huguenots by rioting Catholic mobs in just a few short weeks. You denounce anyone critical of your facts as being brainwashed or ignorant. So i suggest you read a little more on European history before spouting off about Catholic virtue.

That's why my family came here ... but I hold no grudges... none of us had anything to do with it and neither did God... what is done in his name by men is not Gods doing but mans prejudice and weakness.

slvemike4u -> RE: No Condoms In Africa, says the Pope (3/19/2009 9:08:50 PM)

See this is the part I don't get.....A Catholic Pope is against the use of condoms, some of you seem to be suprised about this?
Thats all I got,and when we get around to page 12 I am going to repost this.

I didn't use it for the longest time, but this year, I'm running short on patience for insecure, unkind, preachy, blowhards...   Until it passes, yes, the hide feature is a nice sigh of relief.     M

You guys are getting alllllll up in arms over the Pope saying condoms are a no-no.  Did you all launch horrendous threads when he said we should all stop warring?  The Pope's been doing his catholic thing for centuries and centuries.  Will he changed his beliefs and teachings because people disagree?  You know he wont'.  Calling it catestrophic, saying he's the worlds next Hitler for denouncing the use of condoms, is just......as irrational.  (if you ask me)

And it's only relatively recently that disagreeing with him has not guaranteed a stint at the stake. Call it enjoying the benefits of dissent, but centuries of bullshit doesn't excuse contemporary crap.

sorry to say.. but i think he is Hitler reborn.. he wants world domination.. and abuses his power to the furthest..

There is where I read it! lol.  I haven't read this whole thread but when you asked KittinSol, I thought to myself..."am *I* getting over dramatical now? lol

And as far it not excusing contemporary crap...the Pope isn't trying to be contemporary.  The Pope, all the ones preceding him...have been as consistent as consistent can be.  I don't always think what they say is the 'end-all', but thats catholicism.

Sanguinarian -> RE: No Condoms In Africa, says the Pope (3/20/2009 6:46:59 AM)

Well, consider this. The Pope decided to bring back several high rankers who insist the Holocaust never happened. That some 6 million people who died, not including the ones we don't know about never actually died. Or existed.  That the piles of clothes and mountains of glasses ( think that about 1 in 5 people wear corrective lenses, and this mountain was as tall as a six foot person with a corresponding base at the bottom ) and there were no crematoriums and such.

If the Pope brought back men who continue to deny the Holocaust, is it really a surprise he wants to participate in an action that can and probably will cause the infection and death of more people? To me, it looks like a case of passive genocide.

Granted, in the Catholic faith, abstaining from sex until marriage and childbearing can be a noble thing. But I doubt all Africans are catholic. I also doubt that human nature can be completely subsumed by one's faith. In the throes of instinctual passion... nuff said.

It's also true that people with a lot of power, have the temptation to use it, to fit their own views, whether they actually consciously decide to do so or not. Exhibit A: Hitler. The only difference I see is that Hitler went active on the genocide front.

Priests preach about God's Gift to Man; free will. Blind faith is in following someone who is clearly in the wrong when he could be saving lives. Faith is knowing what is right, even when it is difficult, adhering to the brain God gave you, not becoming sheeple.

kittinSol -> RE: No Condoms In Africa, says the Pope (3/20/2009 6:49:19 AM)

Ah yes you're right, I'd forgotten about that lol. Still, I think this thread demonstrates that the Pope's antiquated views of life confirm how out of touch he is with reality. He is a fossil, a relic, a historical oddity. It's that he's still influencing the lives and deaths of millions of people that make his comments bordering on criminal.

kittinSol -> RE: No Condoms In Africa, says the Pope (3/20/2009 6:54:01 AM)

Great post, Sanguinarian.

Louve00 -> RE: No Condoms In Africa, says the Pope (3/20/2009 6:54:36 AM)

That I will certainly grant you...and agree with you on.  While I understand the philosophy of the catholics (some), I always thought it was too rigid to fit into real life.  Although, I have come across a few philosophies that are abrasive to life as it should (in my view, of course) be led.
