Did someone mention nationalized healthcare....It's called medicare.

$1,068.00 deductible for a sixty day hospital stay.  Medicare pays the rest.

$135.00 deductible for all other medical expenses and an 80/20 plan after that based upon medicare approved expenses.

it seems to work pretty well.  Really not an "American" notion at all...We should get rid of it.  I love the smell of the elderly decaying.

Rot you fuckers...So long to the Greatest generation ever.  Finally I hope Congress will consider my plan of jettisoning the elderly into the Sun.

Repeating a falsehood over and over again doesnt make it true. Yes, there may be anecdotes of times when it works, but if you work with people in England, as I do almost every day, they are nearly to a man unhappy with access, quality and what they ultimately pay for it.

This is total bullshit. I live in the UK and for the most part the majority of people are happy with the health service as a whole.

Palins problem was she wasnt allowed to be herself until it was to late in the campaign.
by then it was way to late in the campaign.

No, Palin's (and McCain's) problem WAS allowing her to be herself.

Didn't work out too well though.

Is funny, I dont see people moving to the US from Canada or the UK for the health care. Those who do cross, have the money to pay out  for their issues, the regular joe wont be able to do it. Queue jumping is an anathema for me with healthcare.
Oh and someone else pointed out to me the post about natasha richardson(rip)..... shes not alive, so healthcare, wether US or Canadian, is a non issue.

If the US health care system works so well why do so many US citizens cross the border into either Canada or Mexico for medications and treatments?

It's the marquee Republican event to raise money for GOP House and Senate candidates".

Its so awesome when people prove your point for you when they think they are rebutting it.
Put on your thinking cap...why would a company in any sector pay for private health care for its workers when they are already paying  for nationalized health care?

There is only one reason...NHS doesnt provide care as well as the private system.

.....it's so funny when people think they've made a point but are just hanging on to their blinkers with both hands.

The NHS provides good quality care for everyone. That's its purpose. It achieves it purpose as well as anything that big can. However, should you want even better care than good quality then feel free to pay for it.
The alternative system is that only those who can pay for care, or are lucky enough to qualify for charity, get the care they need. If you fall through the cracks, then tough titties.
Now, you and others clearly see health care as a simple consumerist concept.  Heath care a a commodity. Essentially its monetarism, a concept introduced to the UK by Thatcher and hated by 99% of the population.
Some of us don't see health care in that way. Unlike Thatcher we do believe there is such a thing as society......and that we are perfectly able, perhaps even oblgated, to do things for the common good.
Now we can differ in our opinion of what a society ought to do or not do. That's all good. But when you insist the the NHS is a failure you're wholly, factually and apparently wilfully wrong.

There seems to be abundant evidence that the NHS has its share of problems, as well.

Culture of targets prevents nurses from tending to patients

Children being failed by health system, says head of watchdog

Our cancer shame:  Survival rates still lag behind EU despite spending billions

Failing hospital 'caused deaths'

Health gap drive 'wasted money'

These are just a handful of articles related to the NHS published in the last 30 days.

Which is exactly what the US has..without an NHS and without rationing.

Why waste the time? Obviously what makes noise is problems, not successes. Studies of access and outcomes are fruitful, a pissing war of links is a waste of time.

I'm sure they could, but that's beside the point.

The question is, why trade in one "functional but with problems" system for another "functional but with problems" system?

Coverage, universal or not, is useless if the care you need is not allowed or not available.

Sorry Treasure, but what is truly useless is available treatments ....beyond the financial reach of one in need of them.
