The real Boston Tea Party was a protest against huge corporate tax cuts for the British East India Company, the largest trans-national corporation then in existence. This corporate tax cut threatened to decimate small Colonial businesses by helping the BEIC pull a Wal-Mart against small entrepreneurial tea shops, and individuals began a revolt that kicked-off a series of events that ended in the creation of The United States of America.

They covered their faces, massed in the streets, and destroyed the property of a giant global corporation. Declaring an end to global trade run by the East India Company that was destroying local economies, this small, masked minority started a revolution with an act of rebellion later called the Boston Tea Party.

The Colonials tossed the BEICs swag into the bay because the government gave BEIC an unfair advantage with a tax cut,leaving the rest of the poor slubs to compete in the real world`s market.

And to add to the irony... everyone in those tea parties is/was getting a tax cut themselves, while the Bush tax breaks for those earning over $200,000 a year would end, so they'd end up paying their fair share for the first time in almost 20 years!

I think it's wonderful how hard working middle and lower income America stood up today for the upper 2% of income earner's right to fuck them over and leave them holding the bag. Nice to know that they can be so easily duped into supporting the "No Billionaire Left Behind" program.

But hey, it was all run the same way the GOP runs wars: Let's just run in, make a big ass stink, and we'll figure out what the reasons for doing it were... later. I caught no less than six interviews with various teabaggers today... and each and every one of them had a different reason for protesting... One said it was because of the spending, another said it was to say "no" to more taxes, another said it was to protest NAFTA, another said it was to protest Obama being a "non-citizen", another siad it was to protest the fact that Obama was coming after his assault rifle... blah, blah, blah...

So glad they sent a clear message: "We're conservative idiots, easily led by the nose via right wing radio and Fox, and we're sore losers over the election."

The colonists were concerned with an issue, "of deeper significance than that of the dearness or cheapness of a commodity." [Ref] That's not to say that there weren't a variety of factors involved, nicely reviewed (with references) at Wikipedia but, "the familiar 'no taxation without representation' argument, along with the question of the extent of Parliament's authority in the colonies, remained prominent."

1. Our country is wasting too much money regardless of who foots the bill.
2. Don't tell me that sales tax only effects the rich.

If there were a party that actually supported small business anymore in this country, we'd be in a lot better shape.  I started a thread on Obama's tax cuts where I pointed out they're largely irrelevant to the failure or success of small businesses in this country. 

When I run a budget- I look at the biggest items in the budget first.  When there are differences of an order of magnitude- I generally consider the smaller items tinkering on the margins. The tax that's killing small businesses is the self employment tax, aka social security/medicaid/medicare.  While the federal goverrnment can have some "interesting" ideas about how the money should be segregated, it's merely a disastrous expense to a small business. 

The Republican idea of a relatively flat tax rate on everybody has effectively been in effect over the past several decades.  We've seen the result- jobs exported to China (large businesses export jobs, small businesses create domestic jobs for the most part), the rich have gotten richer, and the poor have gotten poorer.

I'd be delighted if the Republicans would get their act together and provide a reasonable voice for business concerns.  Unfortunately, they seem to be clinging to ideas that have gotten us into this mess.

The colonies refused to pay the levies required by the Townsend Acts claiming they had no obligation to pay taxes imposed by a Parliament in which they had no representation. In response, Parliament retracted the taxes with the exception of a duty on tea - a demonstration of Parliament's ability and right to tax the colonies. In May of 1773 Parliament concocted a clever plan. They gave the struggling East India Company a monopoly on the importation of tea to America. Additionally, Parliament reduced the duty the colonies would have to pay for the imported tea. The Americans would now get their tea at a cheaper price than ever before. However, if the colonies paid the duty tax on the imported tea they would be acknowledging Parliament's right to tax them. Tea was a staple of colonial life - it was assumed that the colonists would rather pay the tax than deny themselves the pleasure of a cup of tea.

Does every one on here know that 40% of people in the US pay no federal income tax?? So who does foot the bill?..It's not the so called poor. They pay nothing..

This is rich,President Obama just signed a tax cut for the middle class and all republicans can do is complain.Typical.

Le`me get this straight,the tea party crashers are upset that tax rates are going back to (the successful) Clinton era levels?That`s it?!?[:D]

So it`s gone from no taxation without representation, to no taxation with representation.

Everyone pays federal taxes. People from all walks of life pay gasoline and diesel taxes both directly and indirectly through the higher costs of transportation needs. There are federal cigarette taxes, liquor taxes, firearms taxes and telephone taxes...

In addition to all of those taxes, we all pay for the increased costs of goods and services that business have to pass on to consumers when the feds "tax the rich".

The blood dripping from that knife they're holding? That's your blood.

Funny, when the left protest it's all about government listening to the demands of the people (even though it's always organized by the likes of the DNC, George Soros, and / or Moveon,org).

But when people from the right are protesting they're puppets, or they're terroristic radicals, or even worse...

Oklahoma has similiar "use" taxes, which it levies against anything purchased via the web and then shipped into state - assuming, of course - that people actually bother to voluntarily report that they made the purchase, didn't pay a sales tax on it at the time of purchase, kept records of the "out of state" purchases,, etc etc etc.  Personally, I don't know Anyone who actually reports such, or pays the "use tax" to the state.

When people 'protest' at a fabricated 'movement' they're manipulated. This isn't the real deal. The protests have no basis. It's opportunistic bullcrap: it shows the desperation of the Grand Dukes of the republican party that they have to organise what's left of their electorate in this parody of a movement.
