Keep your hands off of my ellipses...

In other news, it's not so much about spelling for me, as it is effort.  Spelling has always been my strong suit, and there are words out there that even I constantly have trouble with.  As long as I see that someone is putting effort in to trying to communicate with me, then I let things slide.  My grammar is far from perfect also, but again, effort.  Effort does not look like "Hai!  how r u", nor does it look like "i want be ur lasve".

I can completely understand dyslexia, I suffer (okay, it's not really suffering) from a mild form of it myself.  People hate playing word jumble games with me.  ;)   I've learned how to make it work FOR me.

I don't look for perfection in my pet, I look for effort and attempts to improve.  That is fine for me.  Nope, I don't look for perfection, I was just lucky to have found it. :)

I just think some are drunk when they email.  I've even asked some if they were.  If there are mistakes I can handle that, I make them.  But when it is a constant thing through the one line to one million in one paragraph, my eyes cross and I never want a repeat.

When I am emailing or posting I am not going to use spell check except for special things, but in something more serious I will.  I might use spell check here if I could, but my vista is a mono bitch and won't let anything she doesn't like in the mix.

Spelling doesn't actually correlate to intelligence. Dyslexia and other learning disabilities show that.
Beyond that, many people consider email, chat, forums and texting to be a nonformal situation that doesn't call for proper usage.

About all you can do is put it into your profile that you expect them to write properly using spell and grammar check. That way those that still don't obviously haven't read your profile and aren't who you're looking for.

No, spelling does not correlate to intelligence, but ability to remember and recognize code forms (including spelling) certainly does.  "Correlate" is not the same as "determine" or "measure"; it merely means that a comparison between two indices shows some degree of commonality. Dyslexia is a neurological disability that may not interfere with other aspects of abstract intelligence.  So we have spell checkers to ameliorate this.

Re: subtlebutterfly, good communication is not primarily to impress the recipient, other than in showing that it matters to the sender whether the recipient understands her (him).  If one practices a skill, she (he) will find that the investment of time required to use it becomes much less.

This argument doesn't follow, any more than `I'm ever amazed at the number of people who claim to be fashion designers but loaf around at home in sweatpants and a T-shirt'.  Different levels of formality are appropriate in different situations: you expect a higher level of formality in casual correspondence than they do.

I try to write to a reasonable standard because I find it easy to do.  other people dont find it so easy but to be honest its not realy much of a problem in many cases, especially when the spellings fairly acurate.

I'm also amused by people who hold down the period key and use it in place of a comma (I'm assuming that's the intent).  That seems to be a rather consistent pattern I've seen.

I think the intent is to imitate the pauses in spoken language, with longer trains of dots indicating....... you've guessed it.......... longer pauses!  I find that completely unreadable.

Hummmm I can't spell very well, but did work on it through the years through writing.  But seeing as though I didn't get much of an education because of my many missed days due to illness, I ended up teaching myself what I was interested in.  I wanted an education more than anything else in the world and could not get it.  I cried many tears of frustration over it all. Now one can do these things online to some degree, but back then you were out of luck.

I worked myself up in the world and created a place for myself, which didn't mean a job in a factory building riding contraptions.  When I resigned one of my positions I was asked if I could stay because they didn't want me to go and they were trying to provide anything to get me to stay.  The board of directors asked about getting people from college to help out for credit.  I had already checked into that and found I had to have a Master's degree to do that and I explained that to these up standing and very educated people on the board.  They asked how many hours I was away from my Master's.  You should have seen their mouths drop to their chest when I told them I had never graduated high school!  (My work and programs proved my worth.)

I was tested in intelligence and all sorts of things.  No one could believe the results.  But I still couldn't spell.  I don't see my spelling as proof of a lack of intelligence... more an issue of presentation maybe, but not a tall tale sign of what I am or am not.

So, er, let me get this straight.  What you're saying is that spelling does not correlate with intelligence but the ability to spell and recognize spellings `certainly does' correlate with intelligence?  You want to run that by me again?

beeble.

LOL @ maybe they are drunk. That could be!! or jerking off, while typing! Umm, let Me ponder that!

and what I meant by spelling, I understand typos, W/we all make them. The issue I am speaking of is when I have to tilt My head and scrutinize what the word is suppose to be.

You tilt, I squint......

I know my eyes are less perfect than they used to be but I know they are not THAT bad. Yet, sometimes when reading some stuff on the threads or in some emails, I begin to question myself.

I have a question, why do subs contact a Domme and state how educated they are, been within their emails there are a zillion typos???

i am somewhat reluctant to state how educated i am when communicating with someone new.  My idea of how smart i am may vary from someone elses evaluation.

While spelling may or may not be indicative of intelligence, the fact that you are writing to someone whom you are trying to impress and/or differentiate yourself to and don't either proofread or have someone proofread for you is.

In this box I'm typing in, I've added an extra 'i' in indicative, and because of that, the word is underlined...right click, select, the people reading this never knew it was there.

While there may be a million excuses for why the words are misspelled initially, there are none for why the words are sent that way. I look at it like that if I'm reading a profile, resume, email or whatever is being sent to make a good first impression.

OK.  Spelling itself is not correlated, but ability to recognize and remember character sequences is.  If you were to sample the kids who place high in spelling bees, you would find that their abstract intelligence is, on average, far above normal.  On the other hand, a sample of dyslexic people might show no such correlation (or anticorrelation), given that dyslexia and many other neurological deficiencies do not hinder other aspects of intelligence, such as quantitative and logical capabilities.  It is likely that many people compensate by becoming stronger in those areas.

Many don't write us to trying to impress us!  Where ever did you get that idea? lol  Most want a quick hook up with a mistress play toy... why worry about if she is impressed or not?

Disclaimer... not all... but many!

Eye R uh kolledge studnt!

Hello A/all,

I'll give this the old Tech School try.

Education is not congruent (a little math lingo) with intelligence.  Educated, intelligent, people with  trained minds can still be wrong.
What passes for a college education in 2009 wouldn't get you out of eighth grade in 1909.

I only have a tech school education; so, if somebody with a more voluminous vocabulary has a better word than "congruent," please edify me.  Never stop learning.  Never stop exploring.

Respectfully,
Mike
