I rather doubt it, Kitten.  Your link just illustrates the question the OP posed.  It says Obama is cutting taxes, but then only talks about some new write-offs that will only benefit certain folks.  Not a word about tax rates.

Now, I've heard he has changed the withholding rules, leaving a few extra dollars in the take-home pay of working folks, but what impact that is going to have on next years refund is nowhere to be seen.

It's probably about the worst savings plan available, but for many people, it's the closest thing they have to one.  The gov't takes too much from the weekly check, then a lump comes back the following spring.  Maybe a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars.  Money they count on for the family vacation, or a down payment on a new car.  Mine, just for an example, traditionally goes into a back account for unexpected expenses.  What are those checks going to look like next year?

It also doesn't mention the big tax hike (regressive, of course) that he just imposed on smokers.  Not much talk either, of what his "green energy" plan is going to do to how much people pay for their electricity, or what is going to happen to all the other hidden taxes (again, regressive) people shell out every day.

Well they went down for most people. He kept his promise.

bush promised a middle class tax cut, saying that the majority of his tax cuts would go to the middle class.

But since most neo-conservatives imagine that one must be under oath to lie..... they don`t see that as a broken promise and lie made to fool people into voting for him.

For the most part, my taxes are staying right about the same or falling slightly.  Yeah, the cigarette tax is a bit... no pun intended, taxing.  But you know what?  Maybe it's time for me to quit.  I should.  Or maybe I can just suck it up... christ... again, no pun intended, and go have another.  Thing is, I don't NEED to smoke.  It's a luxury tax, just like that $4,000 gas guzzler tax on that gorgeous Audi R8.  Or the high luxury tax on a 12 bedroom mansion.  It's my choice if I want to pay it or not.  I don't need an R8 (no matter how much I want one), when a Scion xB will do me just peachy.  I don't even need one of those, when I have a public transit system here that works fine, and a bicycle.  I don't need a 12 bedroom mansion, when a 3 bedroom house (2 bed, 1 office) works great for me, hell, I could even drop the office if need be.

The taxes on food and other necessities will be going down, yay.  Whatever.  I know what most people will do with that little savings there.  They'll pump it into their gas tanks, or their stomachs, and then bitch about something else.  I probably will do the same thing.  Such is human nature.

Shite, now I do want a cig... thanks a lot for wasting my money, uh, Easter Bunny!
What?  I have to blame someone else, don't I?  It seems the whole personal responsibility and accountability thing is an outdated and quaint theory.  May as well be that damned rabbit.

EDIT:  Not directed at you O59, or anyone at all for that matter... was just a quick reply...

You`re a punny guy....

The way I see it,every cent taken in w/ cig-taxes is one less cent the average tax payer doesn`t have to spend treating tobacco related disease.

Sorry smokers.Nothing personal.

Which is what the tax is supposed to go toward anyway, so hey, there we be. :)  The only issue in my mind is, is that really where it's going, or just some lame ass excuse to pump more money back into the coffers.  Not that I really care either way, I'd just like to know one way or the other. ;)

You do realize Obama's budget is a proposal for the 2010 fiscal year which begins in October of this year?

That's where and when you'll find the tax cuts.

Last June I recieved a $600.00 rebate from the Bush administration. I'll take that anyday instead   of the $8.00 a week everyone is getting now. The math worked out a little better for me last summer.

So from what you've said you apparently didn't understand my post.

This is still basically Bush's budget we are operating under right now.

Obama's first budget and the subsequent tax cuts won't take effect until the new fiscal year starts in October.

Tax cuts?  More like "tax rearrangements."    Move it from here to there, but it doesn't go away, it just morphs.

The easiest way to personally avoid  federal taxes is to not have income and not purchase anything.  You know, mooch off Mom and Dad and live in your old bedroom.  Heck, you can avoid a lot of state taxes too that way!

Of course, Mom and Dad still pay those taxes.  Sort of a "reverse scheme" to what we see with the tax debt our kids and their kids will inherit....

So let me see if I'm understanding you correctly, RML.  You are saying that all of this "Obama is cutting taxes" stuff is nothing but bullshit and spin, based on his campaign promises about how he is going to pay for things.  Is that an accurate summary of your position?

If so, I think that gives us Americans cause for some concern.  President Obama had an earlier campaign promise about how he was going to pay for things, that he threw right under the bus when it turned out his goals were going to be a lot more expensive to achieve than he initially thought.  That was his pledge to use public funding for the campaign.

Based on what little history of his actions we have so far, what then are the chances he is going to find out he needs more money than first anticipated, again?  Last time, he went back to the fundraising.  This time, the fundraisers are the IRS.

I'm sorry, but what exactly is so hard to understand here?

A new President inherits the budget of his predecessor.

So we can't judge things until his first budget actually goes into effect.

Glad to see you admitting it's all spin and bullshit, RML.   I'm afraid we don't have a t-shirt for you, though.  In fact, you might even find some useless jerk-off calling you a racist for daring to question the party line.  Honest appraisals aren't always welcome.
