Ok...after 20 years of living off caffeine, I went cold turkey...stopped completly. The first day was pretty much what I expected...major, major headaches. But the second day was different...my body started to hurt in places that I did not think it was possible to hurt. Not muscles either...almost like the bones were hurting. The heel of my foot, the bone right below my knee, both my hips....and I am talking extreme pain...I was bent over this mornig unable to walk because the pain was so intense.

Does anyone know if extreme withdrawl from caffeine would cause this? And is there anything that I can do to tone the pain down a bit? I tried hot baths, ointments, meditations...nothing is working :(

I don't know about the pain you are speaking of. I do know that when I have had to abstain from caffiene in the past, that I've had headaches to rival the worst migraine I've experienced. They started the day after I stopped ingesting caffiene and lasted for 3 days. I didn't have or notice any other pain, that doesn't mean someone else might not, it's simply my experience.

I was expecting the headache..it only lasted for that one day though...after that it kind of developed into these other pains...

I am going nuts here trying to find ways to alleviate it...I don't want to go back to drinking coffee again simply because I can't find a way around this.

I HAD to rid of caffeine in my diet because I was getting migraines FROM it. I dealt with the worst headaches EVER during my withdrawls, as well as similar pains that you speak of. It will pass, in time. I now am drinking decaff or caffeine free diet soda, only because I still enjoy the carbonated drinks too much to abstain completely. Your pains will dissipate, just be patient, and suffer through it, because it will be worth it in the end. Best of luck to you.

I've been working rotating shifts for over 27 years and I'm pretty sure caffeine is a food group on its own.

There have been multiple studies done over the year's on caffiene. Essentially it has the same affects on the body as heroin addiction. So, yes it is normal.
Most people in the world are addicted to something, whether we think it is harmless or not it usually never is.

If I can find a study I'll post a link to it. Last one I read was about 6 month's ago.

CAFFIENE
Chemical name: Methyxanthines

Caffeine acts in your body to:

Stimulate the central nervous system, alertness increases
Stimulate the heart muscle, heartbeat picks up
Stimulates stomach acid secretion
Stimulate urine production
Dilates blood vessels
Increase the loss of calcium and magnesium in the urine
Inhibit the amount of calcium and iron absorbed from your diet
Caffeine can cause:

If caffeine is a drug, then shouldn't stopping the intake of caffeine cause feelings of withdrawal? Griffiths analyzed medical studies of caffeine withdrawal dating back 170 years. "Sixty-six different studies had been done over time, most of which actually had been done in the last 10 years," he says. "We went about determining which symptoms of caffeine withdrawal were valid, which symptoms occur reliably, and then we determined what proportion of the population experiences these symptoms. And we asked the question, 'Are these symptoms clinically significant, that is, do people experience distress when they abstain from caffeine?'"
Griffiths reported in the journal Psychopharmacology that 50 percent of caffeine users who abstain for 12 to 24 hours experience at least one of four main symptoms: headache, fatigue or drowsiness, bad moods including irritability or depression, or trouble concentrating. And 13 percent feel downright ill. And, he found that caffeine has the same effects on kids as it does on adults

Thank you Sub4hire. I knew that caffeine was addictive, but not as bad as that. It would explain the pain that I feel now. I have to admit though, today is much better, though I am back to having the headache again :(

Just need to keep reminding myself that I can kick this lol.

You can, you already have made it more than a day. That's the key. Caffiene truly is the worst drug that happens to be legal we have on the market.

LOL seaturtle50....how about this...I easily drink 4 pots of coffee a day...from a coffee maker that makes 12 cups...and that is just at work...at home...I drink a pot before I go to work...and at least 2 more when I come home before bed.

That...is alot of coffee

Good luck IceyOne. Sounds pretty awful, especially given the information Sub4hire found.

I could not tell you anything exact, as I cannot tolerate either caffeine or sugar, but when I hurt there are certain things that will make me feel better physically. Soymilk or soyproducts do a great deal for me. The Mistress turns to sushimi. These seem to aid with internal balance for us. Do you normally have anything like that (other than coffee)?

Caffeine is evil. I've tried to give it up for the sake of my cystic breasts, but I just can't do it. I need the pick me up. Coffee, lattes and Lipton's iced tea. And when it's delivered in my favorite form - caramel latte poured over ice, I can't pass it up.

OMG...you make me feel like an amateur!

But seriously, back to the OP, I also get withdrawal if I go much more than 12 hours or so without a fix. The headaches only seem to respond to caffeine intake; normal over the counter headache remedies don't touch them.

On a visit to my brother's, who keeps only decaf, I had to slip out at about 4 am to get a cup of real coffee to make the pain go away.
