ORIGINAL: DomKen The whole split timeline thing so JJ Abrams didn't have to pay any attention to established Star Trek in any way was pathetic. I love Star Trek and hated this movie from start to finish. The high point was hearing Nimoy read the old series' intro for what will almost certainly be the last time. I sincerely hope this thing bombs as badly as it deserves and Paramount puts the whole franchise on the shelf until they can find someone who 'gets' Star Trek to run things. Thank you, sir. You done took the words right out of my mouth. Berman & Braga left Star Trek on the verge of death, and JJ Abrams comes along, breaks its legs and fucks it in the ass. What I'm sick and tired of is hearing everyone claim that Star Trek needed a fresh start, that they needed to bridge the gap between hardcore fans and casual fans and blah blah blah... It has been proven time and again that you can do that without raping Star Trek. Star Trek II, Star Trek IV, and Star Trek First Contact reached out and brought new people in, while staying true to what Star Trek is. Hell, Star Trek II is almost a cultural phenomenon in and of itself. Don't get me wrong, with the exception of Star Trek V and Insurrection, the rest were good movies, but they weren't necessarily tailored to everyone. They were made to be a Star Trek movie. And this generic cast of good looking young actors (with the exception of Simon Pegg) is a sad sham compared to the original series cast.
