Status: offline 		       Sanity, what you need to keeping in mind here is the setting.  This is a traditional event, and the rules are different.  We don't pay the President to be an edgy political stand-up comedian, but once a year, the staff write jokes, and he runs with it.  What gets said at the Correspondents Dinner, stays there.  Last year (iirc), Bush II had a look-a-like up there, playing his inner voice.  He would mouth the usual pc muck, and the impersonator would say what he was really thinking. 

      Did you catch the part of his speech where Pres. Obama accused Hillary of wanting him dead, and maybe trying a little?  Did you notice the inside jokes that bombed (but a few rofl'd)?  How about where he announced he was just going to speak off the cuff, and the teleprompters came up?

     He was good.  We should cut him the slack the audience does, if we want to catch his act on this night.

     Of course, the same should apply to Shrub's hunt for the WMD, but I've given up hope of intellectual honesty in some quarters.

Status: offline 		No, Rich. Half the audience was booing, because that was inexcusable. A line has to be drawn somewhere, and as good place as any is precisely where, if the shoe were on the other foot, the other side would be enraged - and you know as well as I that that tirade went way, way over that line.

The difference is that you want to ban, make illegal and put in jail those people who say things with which you disagree.

Sanity and others who find what Sykes said contemptible just find that she violated the law of good taste.

If we asked for prison sentences for violation of good taste, the majority of the "lefties" would already be serving life sentences ....

This is more about folks living in glass houses throwing stones.Ie hypocrisy posing as fake outrage.

If he`s going to give it ,he should also get it.

Again the choice is America failing or Rush`s kidneys failing.

Not a hard choice.

I knew that Cheney joke hit a nerve.  ouch!

No "smiley icons" in this paragraph. In fact, it was quite heartfelt and angry.

While these groups are likely as distasteful to me as they are to you, I believe in freedom of speech, much as the ACLU use to believe when they supported the KKK's right to march.

You and other proponents of "hate speech" aren't liberal at all, in the classic sense.
