address the note "Dear Msabc123"

actually, I think that is a very safe way to start until told otherwise...at least there is no disrespect or error as that is the user/screen name associated w/ Her profile.

chronos1976 -> RE: How to Properly Address a Dominant (5/17/2009 7:41:14 PM)

I would find a sub or anyone else calling me Master inappropriate unless I was in a scene or relationship with that person.

Just my name, hello, or anything non-offensive is OK for me, although lovey, petal and sweaty-pie would be pretty low on my list.

EDIT: ooops, didn't mean to post in the ask a mistress forum. Pretend I was never here. Sorry.

LadyPact -> RE: How to Properly Address a Dominant (5/17/2009 7:56:20 PM)

It's ok.  We welcome all kinds here.

Well, except wankers.

And trolls.

Oh, and people who don't agree with us.

Oh, and do-me's.  Can't forget the do-me's.

So far, you're in good shape.

YoungBlondeSlave -> RE: How to Properly Address a Dominant (5/17/2009 8:17:35 PM)

i am loving seeing this question posed because for years it's left me totally stumped. The advice given here by "D-types"  is actually what i've been practicing (polite, respectful and unassuming) but, has mostly been met with open hostility. "How dare you NOT address ME as MASTER...!" Blah blah blah. Then i imagine some sort of Hulk transformation that occurs after that...

Sometimes i'm entertained by their anger at me being so "disrespectful" by not addressing them as Master, Sir, Lord and/or God (yes, i've met some who believe they are God). But mostly i just say something polite and informative such as: "i'm not your slave and therefore don't expect you to address me as such, christine will do fine. Also you are not my Master and therefore i will not address you as such. Because unless i'm wearing your collar you aren't my Master. If and/or when we grow more serious then we can revisit this but right now i feel it is inappropriate." i then wait for a response and block accordingly.

edited to add: i, too, didn't realize this was a Mistress' forum. But i hope it's okay to post, anyway. :) On a positive note, i haven't ever encountered this sort of rage and hostility from any Mistresses that i've talked with. So, that's encouraging.

The more someone 'demands' to be addressed in some particular fashion--the less that person will get it from me.  Demanding seems to equate domineering more than dominating, and I owe that person no such title unless (as has been mentioned) in a relationship with the other.  I will *never* call anyone 'Goddess', as that seems arrogant, presumptuous, and ridiculous.  I also have never understood why 'Goddess' seems acceptable, and yet the moniker 'God' is rarely, if ever, used with a male?

i've met two this month.

LadyPact -> RE: How to Properly Address a Dominant (5/17/2009 8:33:58 PM)

You know, I'm actually rather easy to get along with in this area.  I don't even tend to get prissy about those who don't like to use the "Lady" part of the screen name.  I'm perfectly content with Lady Pact, LP, Pact, Ms Pact (NOT 'pac') Mistress Pact, or for those who know My real name Miss xxx, or Mistress xxx.  If someone is in such a conundrum within any of those and multiple other choices, they are entirely too wrapped up in how they won't address Me for us to have a decent conversation.

plushiecat -> RE: How to Properly Address a Dominant (5/17/2009 8:34:27 PM)

Wow.  I've never met one!  I hope you laughed at 'em...  Do they shrivel up if you tell them that you don't believe in them?

plushiecat -> RE: How to Properly Address a Dominant (5/17/2009 8:38:05 PM)

Why not just Pact?  Why /must/ the title be there?

Lockit -> RE: How to Properly Address a Dominant (5/17/2009 8:41:14 PM)

She mentioned Pact alone...

LadyPact -> RE: How to Properly Address a Dominant (5/17/2009 8:42:28 PM)

Actually, Pact was one of the options that I gave above.  That tends to work for addressing Me in emails, but not on the boards.  It can get a little confusing because there is a Mister Pact as well.

I hope that will clear the confusion.

ETA.... Not to stir the pot any, but if folks want to shorten it, I really do tend to prefer LP.  It's quick and easy.

plushiecat -> RE: How to Properly Address a Dominant (5/17/2009 8:47:32 PM)

With apologies.  It's late, and I misread, but apologies are owed nonetheless.  I offer only a reason for not seeing that, not an excuse.  [&o]

LadyPact -> RE: How to Properly Address a Dominant (5/17/2009 8:49:25 PM)

Not an issue.

See, I'm easy to please like that.

Lockit -> RE: How to Properly Address a Dominant (5/17/2009 8:50:33 PM)

I think tired is a good reason for missing something.  Don't beat yourself up or anything... it's all good... we've all been tired before! lol

plushiecat -> RE: How to Properly Address a Dominant (5/17/2009 8:53:29 PM)

Thank you both.  And with that, g'night!  :)

LadyPact -> RE: How to Properly Address a Dominant (5/17/2009 8:55:08 PM)

MoGa -> RE: How to Properly Address a Dominant (5/17/2009 11:21:37 PM)

To properly address a D type,

Speaking of forms of address, could someone explain "D type" to me?  I understand "s type" -- submissive or slave, and maybe we even throw in slut or whatever.  But "D type" seems like a goofy egalitarianism: well, the s's get their own type, so the D's do too.  Okay, there's Dom... and there's, uh, Dom.  "Come here girl, and do what I say, because I'm D'master!"  WTF?

Edited to avoid joining Panda in untimely demise: I am using Dom to mean either male or female dominant.

To help with preference between those who prefer Dom or Domme.

Yep, LadyPact nailed that one for me (Thank you... my computer was down the night before last, had to reinstall, then had to go work on a client's office today, so I haven't really been around to check in on things).

I just use "d type" because it's easier than typing out "dom/domme/master/mistress/sir/ma'am" every time.  Now, if you really wanted, I guess I could make a macro or just save that all to a notepad file, and put the whole string in every time, instead of "d type", but I think that would just get to be a bit much real quick. ;)

On a side note, I can't visit this thread without thinking of T.S. Elliot's "Ad-dressing of Cats".  God I'm such a geek...

You do that in an introductory email? Amazing.
