The honeymoon is over.  President Obama really didn't win by all that much.  If the middle starts getting buyers remorse, the Repubs are going to scoop them back up.

What would the middle have to be remorseful about at this point? I don't see it right now.

the lies about tax cuts?

hmmmm....lies? care to expound?......

No one, even he, is stupid enough to believe that he could cut taxes for 95% of Americans and still fund his plans. It was an obvious lie to get votes. Ever since he was inaugurated he has been backpedaling on it.

He has backed away from them with Cap and Trade, a tax on low and middle income earners that dwarfs his supposed income tax cuts. Read the article.

(psssst!   That's not his budget.  I repeat, NOT his budget.  That's an opinion piece attacking his budget.  You can tell that in the upper left corner where it says OPINION.)

By that logic, everyone who voted for McCain is really really stupid--since McCain proposed cutting taxes for 100% of Americans:

The reality, of course, is that you either don't understand the numbers and proposals involved, or haven't bothered to examine them.

The Obama Motors Clown Car Co. is also going to cost everyone who buys one of his new clown cars an additional $1300.00 per vehicle, minimum. And you're correct about Obama's cap and tax plan, which is going to soak the average family (rich and poor alike) an estimated $3000.00 per year.

Then
there's his cigarette taxes, which is a tax on the poorest Americans. There are even rumors of fat taxes coming our way soon...

Let's take a look at two quotes from the article and you can tell me if you find them to be objective:

Official budget calculations disguise the resulting fiscal drag by treating Mr. Obama's proposal to cancel the 2011 income tax increases for taxpayers with incomes below $250,000 as if they are real tax cuts.

Ok, so the writer is arguing that canceling a tax increase does not qualify as a tax cut. Fair enough.

The next-largest tax increase -- with a projected rise in revenue of more than $300 billion between 2011 and 2019 -- comes from increasing the tax rates on the very small number of taxpayers with incomes over $250,000.

Except now he is arguing that canceling a tax cut does qualify as a tax increase.

He calls it increasing the tax rate when it is actually only allowing a temporary tax rate cut Bush imposed to expire, as it was originally supposed to, and letting the top two tax brackets revert to what they were.

Huh?

Canceling a tax increase that were never paid in the first place IS NOT a tax cut. If it wasnt in that article then in another one the analogy is made to a family that plans a $10,000 vacation every year, doesnt take them, and says they "saved $10,000".

Letting a tax cut that actually was implemented expire IS a tax increase. People with the same income will pay more taxes than they did the year before. That is the definition of a tax increase.

The only one biased around here is you. As always.

Well, regardless of whether you think I am biased or not, let's try this again.

Suppose the main breadwinner in the family was awarded a $10,000 a year bonus for an eight-year project he was working on.

He knew from the start this was a limited bonus that would expire when the project was complete.

Would you say he just had a pay cut, or did his pay structure revert to his normal salary?

Of course, if Bush or the Republicans in Congress had had their way (or McCain for that matter, had he been elected President), that "annual bonus" would have become permanent, rather than expiring as Obama and the Democratic Congress are so wisely pushing for.

And now the teabaggers are protesting that Bush's gift to the very rich is going away.  How ironic!

rulemylife -> RE: Steele says GOP comeback has started (5/22/2009 1:54:44 PM)

Definitely ironic since it is not going to affect the vast majority of those protesting.
