Pretty basic legal thinking. D.C. is a federal reserve not a state or a municpality in the ordinary sense. Therefore in a strict sense the ruling only applies to federal reserves. Now I'm confident the ruling is intended to apply to states and municipalities but the law isn't so much about intent but about the strict letter of the law.

If you want to hang your whole argument on your translation of their name, it won't carry you very far. My ex-wife was born in Venezuela, and I speask enough Spanish to know that there are multiple interpretations of the word "raza." The organization says that in this context, it means "the people," or "the community", and i see no reason to doubt them.

There are a couple of guys here that seriously need to take a step back and reexamine themselves and their views, and stop taking such immediate reactionary stances on things they clearly know little about.

Come on guys, before you post you can at least do your research first.

She is a member of La Raza Unida, the United Race and LULAC.

If you would bother to research, here is what you would find.

Second, I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life.

Let us not forget that wise men like Oliver Wendell Holmes and Justice Cardozo voted on cases which upheld both sex and race discrimination in our society. Until 1972, no Supreme Court case ever upheld the claim of a woman in a gender discrimination case. I, like Professor Carter, believe that we should not be so myopic as to believe that others of different experiences or backgrounds are incapable of understanding the values and needs of people from a different group. Many are so capable. As Judge Cedarbaum pointed out to me, nine white men on the Supreme Court in the past have done so on many occasions and on many issues including Brown.”

That doesn't sound remotely racist at all.  What you guys are quoting, what Fox news continues to quote, is a tiny snip.  Taken out of context.

We have a drug-addled radio host, a disgraced former House Speaker, and a convicted felon leading the Republican opposition to this nomination.

Yesterday on his radio show, conservative host G. Gordon Liddy continued the right wing’s all-out assault on Judge Sonia Sotomayor. First, just like Tom Tancredo, Liddy slammed Sotomayor’s affiliation with the civil rights group La Raza — and referred to the Spanish language as “illegal alien“:
LIDDY: I understand that they found out today that Miss Sotomayor is a member of La Raza, which means in illegal alien, “the race.” And that should not surprise anyone because she’s already on record with a number of racist comments.
Finished with the race-based attack, Liddy moved on to denigrate Sotomayor’s gender:
LIDDY: Let’s hope that the key conferences aren’t when she’s menstruating or something, or just before she’s going to menstruate. That would really be bad. Lord knows what we would get then.

They'd have collection cans in supermarkets, bars, clubs, everywhere. They were "Irish" "civic groups."
They said they collected for, "the widows and children of political prisoners in N. Ireland." Sure they did.
And those widows and children must have been multi-millionaires.
Everyone "knew" what they were doing, even the police. And everyone "knew" who they were "supporting."
But, you make up some posters of what looks like downtrodden people and say you're collecting for them and you're a,....."civic group"
I never gave them a dime.

If you do you'll find a video link and you can hear it in G.Gordon's own words.

Unless of course you somehow believe that is fraudulent too, which wouldn't surprise me considering the full-scale push by the GOP's paranoia propaganda.
