Personally I have had public experience, a smack on the ass or whatever and its never caused me any problems, of course I wouldnt do it in an old peoples home or a park. I am not keen on public displays of affection (ie kissing be that same sex or not) but I learn to deal with it, as I believe the rest of the world should deal with my lifestyle choice. Yes, not all GLBT folks are kinky, but relatively few of them are offended by mild kink happening around them, and there aren't going to be any Ums in a gay bar! Actually, I've been in a couple of environments which were nominally vanilla but lended themselves to kink. We had a Science Fiction convention going on in the same hotel with a Catholic convention recently. Lots of people dressed as animals, or in a corset, collar, and bondage cuffs (sometimes complete with leash), or in Ren Faire garb with a couple of whips tucked into their belt, among the other costumes, on the same elevator as the conservatively dressed Catholic folks. No confrontations as far as I know, everyone just wished each other a nice day. I used to do Renaissance Faire, and they frequently have performers or the general public in the stocks, carry out whippings, and I've helped drag a bunch of guys along in shackles/chains, "selling" them to the other guilds as one of the vignettes. So, I'd suggest either do so in an environment with other people who are doing similar things, or at least in an adult-only environment with people who are likely to be tolerant.

I've said this before and my opinion hasn't changed [:D] I'm against public play of that form unless done in ways to minimise the public being aware of it. I'm in the camp of the public don't consent and shouldn't have to witness it. You can take a slave out on a collar and leash quite discreetly, just slide it donw there sleeve (long) and hold the end. You can yank to your hearts content then, people will just think your slaves having some kind of fit lol.
