What amused me the most about this is that the pastor says he is promoting responsible gun ownership while at the same time requiring security to verify the guns are unloaded before people enter.

Somewhat contradictory.

Gun-loving pastor to his Kentucky flock: Piece be with you

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A Kentucky pastor is inviting his flock to bring guns to church to celebrate the Fourth of July and the Second Amendment.

New Bethel Church is welcoming "responsible handgun owners" to wear their firearms inside the church June 27, a Saturday. An ad says there will be a handgun raffle, patriotic music and information on gun safety.

"We're just going to celebrate the upcoming theme of the birth of our nation," said pastor Ken Pagano. "And we're not ashamed to say that there was a strong belief in God and firearms — without that this country wouldn't be here."

The guns must be unloaded and private security will check visitors at the door, Pagano said.

Wow! Finally some common sense!
You should hear it around here on July 4th! Fireworks and Firearms all day and night!

The range I shoot at wants the guns unloaded until you are on the firing line.  Makes sense.  Gun owners understand that.

Unloaded?  What, they are going to use them as clubs?  Or don't they trust their parishioners...

Another "Style of Substance"

Loaded. Unloaded. You people would bitch about it either way so it really doesn't matter.

My guess would be the insurance company is insisting on the security company checking that the weapons are unloaded.  Damn liability insurance...  They take the fun out of everything.

The unloaded requirement, could simply be a legal issue about having loaded guns in a public place... or as has been pointed out it may be an insurance related thing.

I wonder if they are including registration fees with that raffle...

Loaded would be just fine with me...don't start lumping me in with "you people."

Kentucky's off-limit places are listed in:  http://handgunlaw.us/states/kentucky.pdf

If it is a day care/child care/school, then *maybe* they couldn't even have them at the church, loaded or not,

Still another "style over substance."     And would now be a target for some nutjob to come in with a loaded weapon.

ed to add:  Article states "insurance purposes", so +2, Thadius, Heretic...

Would it be safe to say that this "gun-loving Pastor" does not subscribe to the 'turn the other cheek" aspect of Catholicism.

Who's bitching here? I never set foot inside of churches except for funerals and the occasional wedding, so it doesn't make any difference to me what people tote around inside of them. They could all be packing RPGs for all I care, and the only thing I'd bitch about then is if they start lightin' 'em off without asking me. Then I'd be steamed.

Well that's from the OT. Christians are commanded to love their enemies, and what better way than by causing them to "sin no more"?

WWJD? Well, obviously, he'd stockpile weapons and ammo, dress in cammo, and build a survivalist compound out of the temple...

Indeed Kirata, that is from the Old Testament, however Christ also stated that he was not there to change the laws one iota.

That being said, most people forget that even the disciples of Jesus carried swords, we are given further evidence of this in Matthew when Peter lops off the ear of one of the men that came to arrest Jesus.

I wish you well,
Thadius

P.S.  Is it just a coincidence that the crosshairs in my scope are shaped like a cross?
