It's been 6 days since the night I stressed my voice chattering for 4 hours, I been resting my throat not chattering as much, but it still hurts a deep sharp pain. Hurts to swallow and if I do have to talk my voice starts cracking and fading out. I was drinking hot water, pure hot water, no tea honey or nothing, and it helped for all of 5 minutes, and then my throat was back to being achey. I am also very phlegmy. have to ack very hard though to get any thing out, and then it's right back to feeling like ya got a plug stuck in your throat.

Oh yeah I am not showing any other signs of being sick, I don't have huge swollen glands and stuff associated with strep throat, and I have gotten pretty painful throat aches before, gone to the dr and they said i am 100 percetn AOK nothing showed up on the culture test for why my throats hurting.

For singers, they aren't told to chatter less, they are told no using the voice at all for two months minimum. If you can do your job without using the phone do so. Write notes to the other members of the house, text them even if they're just in the next room.

Total voice rest. And was the doctor you saw a ENT with experience in this?

You may want to see a doctor.  I once had a staph infection in my throat which was more painful than strep.  If staph isn't treated it will spread.  This sounds like much more than a case of talking too much.

Nope, she was one of those nurses that breeze in cause they only have 10 minutes to squeeze you in and just stick a thing down your throat swab it, and then say go aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, and look down your throat.

LOL I am a compulsive talker not talking period for two months would drive me batty but when I went to munches and stuff they'd sure love that cause I tend to talk to much and make people unhappy with me.

Sounds to me like you've got an ulcer or a sore down in your trachea. You really do need to see a decent doc tho.

In the meantime, drinking milk and resting your voice as much as possible would help.

The thing is, to go to an ENT, I believe you need a referal and my dr isn't going to give me one just cause I get sore throats now and then. Well actually she might she's a good dr.  I mentioned I was loosing words and forgetting stuff left and right and she jumped on getting me help immediatly.

Heh, love that american health system...

Take a look at this site. Do you get coldsores (cooties?). Anti-inflammatory meds and antibacterial mouthwash would be the way to go, if the symptoms here make sense to you.

Good evening!
You really have to put your foot down about referrals. I mean it sounds like it might be chronic ( a good medical term!) and really tell her that you are in pain and that it is interferring with your daily life. I had "yeast infections" for almost 2 years, finally demanded a referral to a GYN. Hormones and peri-menopause making me dry. But even then I had to keep insisting that something was wrong, thru all the tests, all the treaments, you just gotta keep insisting.
Try -if you can get it-Yogi Throat Tea. Mix it with honey but no lemon. Phlegm sounds like sinuses draining. But not sure if sinuses could cause you to loose your voice. Or try any throat tea usually in the health food or organic stores. Also, might be a good idea to mark on your calender the days you are having problems. That was one way I showed them how many days I hurt, about 3 weeks out of 4. If you think it is bad enough, document everything. Good luck!
Love,
Zechriel

http://www.nidcd.nih.gov/health/voice/vocalabuse.asp

If this is a recurring problem, I would bet on a polyp or nodule on the vocal cord. Demand a referral, don't leave the office without it.

Nope I don't, usualy my sore throats come from the fan blowing on us  during the summer while you sleep, and then for weeks after even though you turn the fan off your throat still hurts and nothing helps.

Sometimes I do get sick from that I'm talking runny nose sore through coughing,

However this one just seemed to come from to much talking and stuck around.

Yup, I remember one time insisting I was in pain and couldn't walk and the dr's like you're fine you're fine go home and I was like no I am not fine, listen to me, and I got a new dr,  and she's like you're right your not fine you muscles are spasoming.

That's why I like dr tan, so far I don't have to put my foot down, all though she told me I didn't have poor circulationbn based on two questions and I have symtoms of it.

as for how many days in a row, I know for a fact the third, cause that's the night o the social and it's now the 9th, so count em up. I will tell them that if I have to.

Yup sore throats are common for me but mostly in the summer when I have had the fan on me all night and wake up horridly dry and painful and thirsty.

I have also regularly had my nose so crusted with dried stuff, even with out the fan I can't breath,  you can litteally plug one nostril and not get ANY air flow from the other one, I can blow my nose and in 5 minutes be back to can't breath.

and I don't know if that's related to sore throats. or not, but it's on going and it started a month or so ago.

I will most certainly insist on being taken seriously if I got a problem and their soft peddling itoff.

No, I've never had allergies, but it could be. The "Stuff" is boogers that are rock hard and dried out to the hilt I just didn't want to be gross, but it could still be the same reply

No, I've never thought of that, how would they help dried out nasal cavities.

By introducing extra moisture/humidity to the air you're drying out by having the fan on, or by whichever process happens while you're asleep to build up the hardened dried gunk.

Makes sense, it gets so fricken hot in here in the summer you have to have the fan on for any sense of relief.
