I had an elderly friend in FL that would put  a jug of frozen water, ok - ice,  in front of her fan at night, the air blowing across would be a little bit cooler, and the condensation from the ice melting would add a bit of moisture to the air.  It worked for her.

Post nasal drip can cause throat soreness.

I like the Simply Saline spray... ot you might try a neti pot.

If you use the neti pot when things aren't clogged then they might stay unclogged.

I've used my neti pot when things aren't completely open, it works just fine... you may just have to flush it more then once to get all the junk out.  I had horrible issues with my nasal allergies for the longest time, using a neti pot was the only thing that really solved my issues and I love it.  No more runny or stuffy nose and my favorite thing, no more sore throats from post nasal drip.

I remember my great aunt on the kibbutz having a fan in the window, blowing into the room, with a towel hanging in front of it the bottom of which was in a pan of water.

Careful, see your doctor. There's been some stuff going around here that can get fairly brutal. Friend of my mom's is in the hospital now for it. On intravenous antibiotics now for a throat infection. Just a sore throat for symptoms. Started getting one a few days ago myself, got some doxycycline, and going in for an appointment monday as it's not improving. It could be any number of things in either of our cases, no sense in not being careful though.

Too much talking... alone and independent of any other contributing factor should not/will not result in a "sore throat."  Extreme usage of the larynx (vocal chords) (ie. screaming, hollering, straining) can cause laryngeal irritation/inflammation and can disturb normal laryngeal function resulting in temporary "voice change/loss."

How long should one anticipate a sore throat to last? The answer to this depends on the cause of the sore throat!

The most common cause of pharyngitis is a viral infection. Yes, associated symptoms are generally present (ie: headache, fever, stuffy/runny nose, cough, adenopathy, etc.)... but can be absent. If one has a viral pharyngitis, the duration of illness varies depending on the causative virus. Some will last one day, three days, five to seven days, and/or longer. Mononucleosis can last for months!

Bacterial infections are less common than viral infections but are certainly common. Group A streptococcal infections are commonly referred to "strep throat" and are generally treated. One can also have Group B strep... which will result in a negative "strep test!"

Fungal infections? Candidiasis should be considered. (It's rare!)

GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) can cause a (progressive) sore throat that'll last until one receives proper treatment. Any provider should have a "high index of suspicion" for this in any subject who has a sore throat that is long lasting with no other symptoms!!!

Certainly, there are many additional possibilities; far more than can be addressed and detailed here in this forum.

Bottom line (here now pertaining to this subject) should/will be... if the problem is not resolving, see a doctor. Respectfully DEMAND full attention! Ask for/insist upon a complete and thorough consideration of all possibilties!

(post nasal drip/nasopharyngeal mucus DOES NOT CAUSE THROAT IRRITATION!!! It is an accompanying symptom likely resulting from the cause that is the source of the irritation! Irritate mucosal membrane=get mucus!)

Good day.
