What's the appeal?
I'm just curious since I tend to be pretty shy myself and absolutely hate it. I am trying to do my best to up my self confidence and esteem, however a Dom I know was telling me about how some Masters like shy girls and lately I've been wondering why.

Why do some people like chocolate an some like vanilla... opinion's vary.  What it boils down to is individual taste.  Perhaps its what the dominant feels most comfortable with (maybe he's shy too, or just the quiet type).  Perhaps it fills part of a fantasy.  The reasons will likely be as varied as the people asked.

For me, I like vulnerability. It has the same kind of appeal as bondage - having someone helpless.

I also like that shy people are generally inexperienced. With less preconceptions about who or what they should be, it's easier to mold a sub how you want. also, I really do love teaching. Being a mentor gives me a warm fuzzy feeling.

I don't like brash. loud people.  Shy is the antithesis to that.

And I think it's cute when she gets a little uncomfortable when the talk turns to sex.

Side question: Sure the person says they are shy and are slaves. My hesitation is where is the line of actual abuse for these cases.

Thanks for the answers!

Padriag, That's one of the reasons I'm asking. I know there's going to be various reasons, I just want to know what some of them are. In fact the more and varied answers the better as far as I'm concerned.

Knowing this bunch, you won't be disappointed.

Did remind me of a line from an old song that went, "You know you're in trouble when she looks you straight in the eye and says, you know I'm really very very shy."

Eeexcellent *insert Monty Burns type finger steepling here*

And while I have no trouble admitting to shyness behind a computer screen I don't think I'd say it IRL. You'd be able to tell though.

on a serious note.

I find  much of the time, men to be less sharing emotionally then women and less verbal  They dont bond in the same way and they dont talk about their feelings Now again this is most or many, not all.

Is it possible that some like shy women or subs because it lets them off the hook where they dont haveto engage in a way thats uncomfortable?

I ask this because I am very honest about my feelings and I ask alot of questions. I penetrate to figure out what is really going on with the person and  relationship.  Some cant handle that type of intensity or sharing of their thoughts and feelings.

I am a bigger challenge than a shy girl in many ways, WIth a shy girl the challenge is to bring her out of her shell. With me, the challenge is to come out of your own

I agree. I too am not overly fond of loud brashness in people in any walk of life any more than I am not overly fond of rude, aggressive, in your face, abrasive people. But then I too am basically a shy person who oft prefers the company of my dogs to most people when I have a choice.

I just have to say that once again I do believe that Padriag has hit the nail on the head in this matter.

Heh, everyone has their own definitions.. For me, I look at the following three angles...

Intent: Was it the intention to cause harm?
Consent: Did the person have REAL consent to do whatever it was?
Consequence: Did the result work out well or not?

If you pass all three tests, then it's not abuse. Fail any one and it is.

*sigh*
Yes, I have been called obnoxious on more than one occasion.
Oddly, though, it has been the "strong silent" type that I have been attracted to.  I guess they were men who had no shell, they were what they appeared to be, and were perfectly capable of laying down the law without having to match my "expressive" personality.

Master loves it when I blush and whisper, "yes Master" when he tells me to do something sexual or new. He keeps a track of how red I get lol. I tend to talk a lot on here but I'm shy when it comes to large groups of people, I've even had panic attacks at parties so when out and about I tend to glue myself to Master's side and he likes that as well, he doesn't have to worry about me wandering off in the mall or something like that.

Believe it or not, I have been known to blush and stammer on occasion with an amourous suitor.

The first thing that came to mind is that shyness tends to be viewed as....umm.....submissive - right? So if you're a D type in the market for an s type a shy one might be desirable to you for the reason that she seems submissive.

For the same reason some Doms like brunettes.

Personally, I'm quite fond of shy subs.
