OP, while I have nothing against a pre-op TG,  that's not everyone's cup of tea.  Surely you realized that the search would be made more difficult by that.

I guess I was speaking in general; I am new here and did not mean to put anyone off. I appreciate the advice that has been given thus far. I've lived too long in the Ivory Tower (crap, never mind), see? There I go again?
Ugh, I don't know, I just found myself laying awake the other night thinking that the perhaps the reality(ies) I am looking for just don't/doesn't exist after all; that I have been led astray by those who would seek/sought to take advantage of me, etc.
I also suppose I stray from specifics and rely on generalities, the words of others and being vague b/c it feels safe and I don't feel I will be emotionally let down yet again...does this make more sense?

Your post didn't strike me as snobbish, crazy, bs, hard to understand, or victimish.   Whatever your style of speaking is, it's yours, and you shouldn't alter it for anyone.  You should be yourself, and in doing so, you will attract those who appreciate you and your style.   I had absolutely no problem understanding your meaning despite that I am not even familiar with most of your quotes.

Basically, you sound like someone in search of a little pep talk and some support or advice.   Sure there are success stories, and there are sob stories too, and most of us have experienced both at one time or another.   I would suggest focusing on the positive, staying optimistic, and keeping an open mind.  Whether you are looking for a relationship or anything else in life, the worst thing you can do is start thinking that you're down on your luck and you can't win.  Your own thoughts are your best friend or your worst enemy.

Best wishes in your continued search.

Now that it does make more sense (to Me at least) it's easier to answer the question.

Off of the top of My head, most of the positive experiences that I've read about from folks have been the ones who were willing to get out into the world and look for what they want.  Sure, some people can do it all online, but I'm led to believe that most don't.  Also, there are a lot fewer complaints about scammers and folks looking to take advantage of others at rt gatherings than you'll find in even a day on a site.

Expand your horizons.  Meet people.  Darn near all of My positive experiences, relationships, dynamics, etc that have been successful have been those in the physical world.

It makes sense, but it is not likely to get you what you need, if you need someone who will see the real you.

I'm going to echo everything marie said.  I'll just add to that to stay open to possibilities and open the door when they knock.  Best wishes to you!

Well your posts didn't make any sense and when called on it, you further continued to make no sense, and you're also gonna need a thick skin on here, some people find great joy and delight in making fun of those they feel make no sense.

Are you able to speak in a straightforward way, a way that does not require footnotes? If you cultivate that skill, you will be much more likely to make yourself understood to others. If you always talk in this rather opaque style, you set yourself up for miscommunication (i.e., BS). I've read Pound, and I never got into Habermas, but I don't see any value in advertising the books I've read to others. This isn't the graduate student literary seminar. People post here with all kinds of educational backgrounds, and some of the least formally educated people are the smartest.

RedMagic1,

i think you wrote a very good post and i hope i can learn from your style of calling somebody out on their behaviour, but not coming on to strong, so that if the person is open for it, they have the possibility to learn and develop a better posting style.

Morebanter,

i sincerely wish you a more positive outlook and hopefully you will find somebody who is interested in you.
I will not bore you with our success story, but we (as in M. and me) met in a chat and that was nearly 10 years ago.

All the best

ZD

OP, you do not write in a straight forward manner at all and until you can communicate much more clearly, you are doomed to have people not discuss the content of your posts since it is impossible to decipher.

Personally I despise Pound. But that's a political view. I find his poetry tainted by his Anti-Semitism.

I have a theory that the more "degrees" a person has the more supervision they need and that theory has been proved right countless times over the last year. It's the "smart people" who got us into the mess we're in right now not "Joe the Plumber."
But, I only have a B.S. in Bus Admin.

Detroit has a very active LGBT community.  There are outlets for meeting people, REAL people, that you can befriend.  Check out Affirmations in Ferndale, come to a local event, see who is out there.
