I might actually wear eyeliner if I could figure out how to apply it.  If I use the liquid stuff with a brush, I can't control it and it's just too messy.  If I use an oil based pencil, it doesn't go on evenly, if all.  (It sort of dries up.)  I'm not a girly girl, so I could really use a little advice from a more experienced sista.  Any tips, or brands that decidedly work?

I love MAC, Bobbi Brown and Clinique products. The Bobbi Brown gel liner with the angled brush is what I use, occasionally I use a pencil. I never use liquid eyeliner myself.

The liquid stuff has never worked very well for me. I love MAC stuff, have a ton of it. I usually use a pencil or I will use a really dark shadow as a liner with a nice angled thin brush (something I also got from and learned at MAC)

Thanks, girls!  I'll try getting a better product.  I did watch the video.  Not sure that I could ever have her steady hands, but if I get a small brush and a decent product, maybe it would work.

I'd go with permanent eyeliner and dye my lashes.

Yes I do this too because I like to match my liner with my eyeshadow. I use this brush http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P183727&categoryId=B70   and wet it just a bit and the shadow goes on perfectly smooth as a liner.

I haven't found much that I really like because the liquid isn't the look I want.  It is too harsh and difficult to apply.  I use a pencil.  Some are too soft and will smear.  So I have found that a darker eye brow pencil is often the best for me and some of the best I found were the cheaper type rather than the ones that cost eight dollars or more.

I don't like eyeliner or mascara on me and certainly no black...I like charcoal or brown pencil, smudged a bit

Two quick notes: Adam has a facebook account and you an ask hm any questions freely and he will respond---fyi--
 
To steady the hands, put your opposite hand over your cheekbone, use it as a resting place for the "painting" hand, that allows you to get a better grip on the brush or pencil and when applying it, always go from outside the eye to inside, that way it goes against the grain of the eyelid and doesnt bump or skip or leaves holes.
 
If you have an ULTA store in your area ( they are also online) they carry hundreds of different types and a multitude of shades.

When I wear makeup I only use Bare Escentuals.

I got their liner powder and use the angled brush, tap of the excess and it goes on like a dream. If you want dramitc wet the brush, it you sutble the powder is fine, plus its waterproof and actually healthy for your skin.

The exact same for me. I use a really dark warm gray that is perfect. Cannot tell you what brand it is but I know I wouldn't have paid more than a few dollars for it. Black and liquids are way too harsh and aging unless a woman is 20 and going for the stripper look. I am neither.

I have always heated my pencil a bit under warm water..so it glides on better..

I still line the actual skin ridge above the  bottom lashes like back in the day..

I found a good liquid one from REVLON and the brush is more pointed at the base so when you press close to the lashes and stroke it on ...........it is not ABOVE the lashes.
Smudging with a Q-tip blends

There are some great SPARKLY liners out now too..from

I use pencils that you dont have to sharpen in a wide variety of colors. I have liquid liner but I am just a mess with it, especially on the bottom llid. But these doe shaped eyes look silly with it all the way around. Although I wish I could do the whole cat eye thing.

These guys are my all-time favorites for cosmetics. You can go as subtle or as extreme as you like. (My daughter tends towards the extreme -- these days, I tend to a more subtle look). All of the colors can be turned into gel eyeliner with the addition of the Eyeliner Seal. I put mine on with a super-fine sable paintbrush from the art-supply store. They also have an awesome pencil liner that goes on like silk. With a light touch, and lining the inner lid line, it is very subtle.

The other thing is practice-practice-practice. Our bodies have muscle memory, so if you do something every day, your body will begin to recognize the motions and things like shaky hands, etc., will fade over time.

I cant use liquid liner it ends up on my nose and stuff, but i do use a pencil liner and have found over the years if i put a little bit of heat to it it slides on better. If i mess up a lil or dont get all along my lid i use a Q-tip to even it out and make it less dramatic.

Lately I have been doing a DOT thing,..just under the eyebrow on the upper lid..
I have been using my PASTELS from my art kit...and I press the eraser end of a pencil in it...
 
I use a red dot in the centre and then other dots..like gold..green...blues.... emerald..
I thought it was too "young" for me but actually the bright red dot makes my eyes look amazingly younger..
I mean  I look at least only 46 now ahahhahahah[:D]

I have also shaved my eyebrows off at times and done the dot thing..or a line of sparkles for the eyebrow or  dots of sparkles
adn I like to draw in a lightening shape for eyebrows..

Yeah, Medusa Cosmetics are my true loves. I have every single color they make (I keep them in a re-designed sewing kit covered in florescent orange, pink and yellow butterflies), the glitters, The Fix glitter fixative, the StickIt primer, and the makeup remover (which, btw, cleans off -anything-, even the REDS, without staining or residue, with ONE wipe... no rubbing wrinkles into your tender eye tissue trying to get eye makeup off!)

I'm nearing 50 myself, but I -love- playing with cosmetics and always have. My offspring is a serious fetish-puppy (she's my piercer/tattooist as well), and fortunately, the colors she loves are ones I don't usually wear and vice-versa, or we'd be having some -serious- cat-fights over the makeup kit!

It's funny, though -- for all that I can sit for HOURS playing with makeup, I -hate- wearing makeup to work... explain -that- if you can. *LOL*

Practice is definitely the way to go.
It took me a week to get the hang of the liquid eyeliner, now I can apply those and normal pencils easily but yep practice..when you have got the time!!! Not when you're going out.[:D][:D][:D]
It's mostly about drawing the line using short strokes and ..holding the eyelid down in a way you find comfortable so you don't have to blink each time you touch your eye[8D] however..don't ask me how to put liquid eyeliner on the bottom eyelid omg can't bother..and am too lazy to practice but ohwell will do it eventually.. good luck.

Howwwwwwwever...I don't remember what they're called but..I think it's something new stuff..wet (I think) eyeliner with a brush that's the shape of your eyelid so putting it on is easypeasy. I haven't tried it though but it's supposed to be much easier than the 'old fashioned' ones.
